  1. I agree. What I don't like is calling it the BS Factor. I would argue it is what makes 94 great (and Tecmo by the way, anyone heard of the Tecmo gods? Don't anger them.) It is also what makes life great. You think the 1980 USA Team wins against the Soviets without a certain "tilt". that the 86 Flames beat the Oilers. (Thanks Steve Smith for having messed up AI) I could list events daily in Real sports like this that happen. Come spend a season coaching HS Football with me. I feel like Plabax and maybe TK want this to be Pac-Man or Super Mario where it is a video game. With straight up parameters and no goofy tilt just follow the formula, be the best at it and you will always win. This is not life and it sure isn't real sports. The goofy tilt is what attracts us and drives us and maintains our interest. 94 succeeds to me because it mimics life and ya I love the goofy tilt in Real life. and I want as much goofy tilt in my 94 as possible. IMO if want straight up even dynamics play Pac-Man. If 94 had straight up dynamics and no tilt we wouldn't still be playing it. If college football just gave the best team the Title every year you wouldn't need to play games just send it to Saban in Tuscaloosa every year. Tilt and wacky is why we love sports. Now after saying all that I love you Plabby and TK, don't take it personal and it is a good discussion, and embrace the wackiness. It's in the Game! It's in Life! It is awesome.

  2. This thread will be my notes and attempt to expand NHL'95 to a 34 team ROM. Before I start, I'd like to thank @wboy, @slapshot67, and @smozoma up front, as just about all of my hacking knowledge has come from them. I will try to give credit where appropriate, but 95% of this will be one of those guys. So my initial thoughts are as follows: Expand the '95 ROM from 2MB to 4MB to create room for more teams, graphics: Not needed, enough empty space to use in 2MB. Also going over 2MB creates RAM issues. Find the team data and move it to a new spot in the expanded ROM. Create data for 34 teams: DONE! Change the team pointers to the new data: DONE! "Decompress" graphics (logos, banners, player cards, etc.) - DONE! Change pointers to the new graphics - DONE! Make '95 recognize the new teams/graphics, able to select in menu - DONE! Figure out how the season data works, incorporate into 34 teams - WIP Same with trade player and other unknown '95 stuff ADD: Music, figure out how to make sure the music works for new teams - DONE! So here goes. I expect this to be a pretty long project, with many bumps along the way, but ultimately fun.

  3. I am first going to try to get this to work for regular play. If I manage to get that working, I'll start to check out Season Mode -- if it's even possible. I am thinking there might be some issue with that, sort of like the "LEAVE OFF!" on user records on wboy's 30 team ROM. But I'm faaaaaaaaar from that point at this time. Team Selection Progress Update Last night I seem to have found the values that limit team selection for Player 1 and Player 2 using the RAM Watch and Trace method (thanks @Tony H and @smozoma!). @085EAB - selectable teams for Player 01 @085EAC - selectable teams for Player 02 Both values are set to 1C (28 in decimal). Changing to a lower value capped the available selected teams. Changing to 1E and the game did try to find 2 more teams (yay!), but were blank. Not sure if I have to add more pointers and team data for that to work? Adding as a "to do" test. The playoff teams were also limited when I changed these values, however no such luck when I increased the value -- they remained capped at 26 teams. So there must be some other cap on the playoffs somewhere that I have to find (either 1A or 19), but I didn't have much luck last night finding anything on playoffs.

  4. Thanks! Looks like he found the team data that was covered in my first post, thanks for sharing! Thanks, I'll need it!

  5. Slapshot67 has that under control. It'll happen!

  7. BOOM! thanks for doing this bud. http://broadstreetbuzz.com/2016/06/19/nhl94-2016-update/ "when I’m not writing about Philadelphia Flyers hockey on the internet, sometimes I like to nerd it up playing old school video games. I am of the age when NHL 94 for Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo were king, and to be honest, I’ve still never had as much fun with the new releases as I did playing with my friends way back then. For any like-minded folks out there, NHL94 still lives on through the fan site NHL94.com. I am one of multiple game editors there, and I finished up a rom “hack” of the Sega Genesis game. This hacks and others like it update just about everything about the game: the teams, the logos, the uniforms, the lineups, the graphics…etc. There are even on-going online leagues for the faithful. It’s pretty amazing stuff in my opinion."

  8. NOSE doesn't have that capability. Someone needs to first create a 30-team base ROM, like wboy did for 93 and 94 on the Genesis and I did for 93 on the SNES (with some help from top shelf and statto, plus guys who reported bugs). Its a lot of work -- I've spent around 100 hours solid on SNES 93, and that's a much simpler game than 95. 94 is next on my list... not sure about after that... so 30-team '95 is a long way away, if coming at all : (

  9. There should be no issue to where the sites apparent focus is. If people aren't playing the game, whats the point making hacks that no one would be interested to play? Also, how many of the "hackers" here are so caught up in playing online leagues and prioritising it over their hacking efforts. About none I'd think. Okay, maybe Evan as we are still waiting on his Fantasy League rom! RE: holding the hope that one day we'll see advanced hacks that improve 94 gameplay and add fighting etc (you know, things that would be worthwhile efforts unlikes the basics that NOSE and the 30 team rom seeming offer) is very wishful thinking... too many here hold the view that the Motorola 68K ASM hacking, NHL94 loving Neo will one day arrive from the Matrix and fix all their 94 woes... damn, I hope your right for your own sake, but honestly, learn what you want to achieve yourself (if you can justify the time commitment required to do so). Thats the best chance you'll have of it ever happening IMO. I knew sweet f/a about hacking rom before I started with this commun... err.. scene. If you apply the time and the effort (driven by interest), you'll slowly get places... yes slowly... but thats what you got to expect hacking a complied game without the original source. Don't expect to get given the answers *all* the time.. unless of course you know its out there (e.g. 30 team documentation which should surface in the not too distant future).
