  1. I have been looking for new and challenging ways to play NHL94 offline and solo. Like most of you, playing the computer controlled teams are no longer a challenge. Although the best competition is playing in one of the many online leagues, I have not been able to commit to an online league or find people to play against in non-league games. I took it upon myself to make new challenges. First was winning the Stanley Cup playoffs without a goalie. This proved to limit my exposure to several teams, since there are only a few teams that I might be able to use to accomplish this feat. Probably could do it with VAN, QUE, CAL, and maybe LAK or WSH, which leaves the rest of the teams unused. I like to play with an assortment of teams, so I needed to find another challenge... I decided to play with just backup players. That worked fine for the elite to middle tier teams, but left the bottom teams a barren wasteland of talent. (Playing with an all backup version of the Florida Panthers would make a grown man cry) The idea was good, it just needed some adjustments. I wrote up a blog entry about it: http://coalm.blogspot.com/2017/08/handicapping-nhl94.html Bottom Line: -No players rated over 75 overall -Every team must bench their best forward and their best defenseman -No dominant goal scorers even if the player's overall rating is below 75. Call this the Kamensky Rule -If a player scored a hat trick, the player must be substituted for the remainder of that game. Removal from the rest of the playoffs is optional, but encouraged. -Only removed Roy and Belfour at goalie. All other goalies remained. Might change this in the future. Let me know what you guys think of my results, or go try it yourself.

  3. As great as this rom is, the fact that the music is off drives me crazy. So I fixed it. Hope you don't mind Naples. nhl2017deadlinemusic.bin

  4. If I'm able to get the home and visitor banners, they would have a separate palette for each team.

  5. From what I have gathered, the menu banners use the 2nd and 3rd colors from the team logo palette to fill in the banner. Are you trying to break that linkage and have the menu banners reference a separate palette?

  6. Yes, that sounds like a simple fix.

  7. I was thinking about using the NOSE editor, and have it so that the 10 best players and 2 best goalies on each team can make the cut. Then, there will be a fantasy draft once I can get the ratings up. I'm debating on whether doing a 16-team or 26-team Sim League. Both would be 12 rounds (10 F/D, 2 G), but the 16-team league would leave 120 FA (No Salary Cap and each team can claim up to 7 players (1 on a 5 season deal, 2 on a 3 season deal, and 4 on a 1 season deal, players cannot be resigned unless they hit the free agent market, but if another team tries to sign that player, a draw will happen. First come, first serve). I would have to make up the schedule (thinking about doing a 32 G season, 4 games/week). Then comes playoffs, if it's a 16 team league, 12 would make the playoffs. Top 4 get a free pass in the tournament to a later round (TBA). In a 26-team league, 16 will make it in. After that season comes a 7 round draft, where all teams participate in a lottery drawing to decide 1-16 or 1-26. 3 players have star potential, 10 have top 6 potential, 50 have bottom 6 potential, and the rest have minor league potential. However, as I record player and team standings, I would change ratings every week. For all I know that minor league potential or bottom 6 potential player can produce very well, knowing it's video games. I will let you guys know if this idea does in fact happen.
