  1. Fall '11 Classic League Registration! Register HERE For those of you who have registered on the NHL94Online site before, then registration will be easy. You just need to choose "Yes" for the question "Have you registered for a league before?", type in your site user name and password (NOTE: This is different than your forum password and user name, unless you made it the same), and choose the league you will be joining and your team preferences (a total of 10). Then hit submit and you will be placed on the waiting list. It's that easy. For those of you who have not registered on the NHL94Online site before, then there is a little more info. to fill out. You need to choose "No" for the question "Have you registered for a league before?" and enter a user name and password (it's common to use the same user name as your forum name or AIM name). You will also be asked to fill out some more information about yourself (email, location, timezone, AIM Name, system preference). Then choose the league you will be joining and your team preferences (a total of 10). Then hit submit and you will be placed on the waiting list. You will then need to play a test game to make sure your connection is set up properly. This does not affect your place on the waiting list, but you cannot play in the league without playing the test game. Registration deadline will be Sunday, August 28th. At that point, we will assign teams to coaches and the schedules will be released. There are 5 league levels we are hoping to run this season: [GENS-A: This is for Advanced players. Genesis] [GENS-B: This is for Intermediate players. Genesis] [GENS-C: This is for Novice/Beginner players. Genesis] [sNES-A: This is for Advanced/Intermediate players. SNES] [sNES-B: This is for Novice/Beginner players. SNES] This is just a template for the time being. The amount of league levels might change, depending on the amount of coaches who are registered and confirmed. You can sign up for multiple league levels (i.e. GENS-A and SNES). All beginner players for Genesis will be put in GENS-C. This is to reduce the amount of controller and monitor homicides to a minimum, as long as keeping your self-esteem high. As always, halifax and I will have the last say in who goes where if we need to even out the 3 Genesis leagues and 2 SNES leagues. The season will be 40 games. There is no specific order in which the games need to be played. There will be weekly checkpoints of 6 games, meaning you need to play at least 6 games a week. Don't freak out - since you have multiple games against each coach, it normally amounts to playing 2 coaches a week. Coaches like to get all the games against 1 oppenent done at the same time. TEAM SELECTION PROCESS We will be using smozoma's method for team selection. We used this last season and it worked out pretty well. Here is a brief description: - Everyone is generated a randomized number. This means that it doesn't matter if you registered on the first day or the last day. Everyone has the same chance of getting the first pick. - After organizing the list using the randomized numbers, we go down looking at everyone's FIRST team pick, in order. Those coaches who still have their first team selection available by the time we get to them, get their first pick. If not, they get skipped. - Then, we go down the organized list looking at the SECOND team pick of those coaches who are skipped. If those coaches still have their second team selection available, they get that pick. If not, they get skipped. - Then we look at the THIRD pick, etc. Example: Iceguy has his team pref. listed as: SJ, ANA, TB, OTT Zalex has his team pref. listed as: SJ, TB, OTT, ANA FPB has his team pref. listed as: SJ, OTT, ANA, TB Carse has his team pref. listed as: TB, ANA, OTT, SJ The randomized order is Iceguy 1st, Zalex 2nd, FPB 3rd, Carse 4th. First picks: - Iceguy gets SJ. - Zalex gets skipped, since SJ was chosen already. - FPB gets skipped as well, since SJ was chosen already. - Carse gets TB. Second picks: - Zalex gets skipped, since SJ and TB were chosen already. - FPB gets OTT. Third picks: - Zalex gets skipped, because OTT was picked already. Fourth picks: - Zalex gets ANA. I will not be changing team preferences for people after they have registered. If you aren't sure what team you want to use, wait until the last day of registration. We are aiming for 12-14 teams in each league level, so there is a high probability everyone will get a decent selection. Good luck! If there are any questions or problems, feel free to PM me. 2. DOSBox manual You probably need to look for a setup file in the NHL96 directory and change the settings.
  3. You sure you have Sound Blaster set up properly in DOSbox? It probably has nothing to do with the game, but with your DOSbox setup. Have you tried any other game to see if there is sound?
  4. Bud, you aren't going to help with the next Classic league? Mav has been given a chance again and again and again and again to grow up. Apparently, he hasn't. I receive at least 4 complaints a season about this. He will not be allowed to play Classic league next season.
  5. That's OK. In a few years he will be a third liner just like Drury ended up after his big contract. Everyone who comes to the Rangers sees their production drop off like crazy.
  6. Yep, this is the goal. I'm working on admin pages to make it easier for anyone running a league to use the database. Halfway there, will have this done by the end of the summer.
  7. Well, I have been been keeping an eye on this thread and decide it's time to speak up. The main problem with online leagues is people play when they want, not when they are available, and not when their opponents are available. And the problem with people not playing others because they know they will get killed, they don't like playing the guy, whenever they lose they are sore losers, etc. People really need to grow up. It's a game, sure it is competitive, but it still is just a game. Be respectful, finish the blowout, play who you are scheduled to. We are a community, a group of guys who share a common interest, and the people who do this ruin it for everyone, not just the guy you are playing. Some guys are better than you, sure, but you aren't going to get any better playing the same guys who's skills are below yours all the time. Play the tough games, learn the opponents' ways, and maybe next time you play them you will stand a better chance. A lot of the veterans have no problems giving tips on how to get better if you just talk to them after a game, even if you got blown out 14-1. And for the sore losers, losing a game 10-1 against a good player and losing a game 10-1 against a sucky guy is the same thing - a loss. Last time I checked, it happens in every sport, the worst teams still win against the best of them. Don't give me the "I shouldn't lose to guys like you" IM after the game - if you don't think you should, then maybe you should work on your game because you obviously lost to me, fair and square. (Quote courtesy of RedWingDevil) And stop sending us PMs with "This is what this guy did while playing. What are you going to do about it?" In my opinion, the best guys in the league are not the ones that go 34-6, but the ones that go 2-38. The 2-38 guys are the ones that impress me, just for the fact that they get it. They are the ones that keep the league running, because it is easy to just leave after starting 0-15 and scoring 18 goals in those games compared to the 65 that are scored on you. They understand that to get better, they need to play. And them playing keeps the league running smoothly. Unfortunately, we see maybe 1 or 2 of these guys a season. Teams dropping off the face of the earth and not answering IMs, etc. - We see this problem in Classic the most because it is a "beginner" league. Blitz and GDL are leagues that are basically set with the same guys playing them and maybe 1 or 2 teams added every season. All the newcomers sign up for Classic, thinking they are the best, realize they suck, get sick of losing, stop playing, and disappear. For all those who complained about getting games in this season, we had the most newcomers ever. A lot of them did just this - drop out. Hence, expecting this would happen, we made mixed leagues, with newbs and veterans, so that a whole league didn't suffer from games not being played. Sure, we can cut down on this easily, by banning newcomers, but then, how does the community grow? I would say maybe 2 out of every 10 that sign up to be in the league work out to stay for the long term (more than 1 season). As far as solutions, sure we could do the 'play who you want" idea, but I don't think it will work. You will still have a situation where "I don't want to play this guy because I will lose and I don't want to tarnish my 14-1 record". I think coaches will do this a lot, and then you have the same problem - some guys not playing others , and 40 games not being played because everyone wants to play guys they could beat on, not guys they will lose to. Having the set schedule in Classic prevents this, in a way. You have to play who is on your schedule. The only solution I see is to put people with the same availability in the same leagues. Everyone posts at least 2 or 3 days and times when they are available, and we set up the leagues like that. I don't mind the "Chicago vs. Chicago" thing, but if we could I would rather each sub-league be run with 1 coach per team. This could hopefully cut down on the problem. We could also assign points for GP, but then that isn't how it was done back in '94 and hence wouldn't be "Classic". I also don't mind the "you play this coach and this coach by the end of this week" idea. That's a good one. I think that's how GDL does it? As far as new guys coming in midway through the season looking to join, maybe we could set up an "exhibition" league to keep those players interested until coaches need to be replaced. The year after I joined, there were tons of leagues going on at the same time, so there was always leagues to join. Now, with only about 4 or 5 serious leagues running and them not all running at the same time, there's nothing for the new guys to sign up for while waiting. It would be nice to see more action for the new guys. And congrats to NHL 2011 league - you guys are doing a great job running it! Next season, I'll set you guys up so you can use nhl94online.com and don't have to worry about keeping track of the records, etc.
  8. There is no deadline, I just want to get them finished up before the summer really hits and no one is around to play. Grayto, whenever you get a chance to get the games in is fine. Just try to contact stheds and schedule it for a time that works for you. I hate when finals series don't get played, and it's not fair to be giving out FF wins in the finals.
  9. The matchups for all league finals are up on the site. Can we try to finish this by next weekend? Please?
  10. If your wired connection is worse, then your brother must have done something to your router settings, screwing things up hardcore. Think for a moment: - Modem has a cable going to it. - Another cable goes from the modem to the router. What would make things simpler for the router? A. Connect computer to router using a cable. Can connect at speeds up to 1000 Mbit/s B. Connect computer to router using a broadcast signal (wireless), with it having to travel all through your house (depending on where your computer is), resulting in a loss of signal strength. Then it gets to the router as an encrypted signal (since you don't want anyone using your internet, you give it a passcode), needs to be decrypted, and sent along a cable back to the modem. Typically connects at 54 Mbit/s, unless you have a kick ass 802.11n router, which can do 300Mbit/s. Hmm, what could be the correct answer?
  11. RWD, is this with the wireless? If you are capable of logging into the router, it would at least help a little to change your wireless settings. Most of the time, the router default setting set the wireless channel to auto. It helps to use Channel 1 or 11 - these are the strongest. Your router probably operates on the 2.4 GHz range, which a microwave and most older wireless home phones operate on. This could cause interference and affect your connection. Try setting the wireless channel to 1 or 11 and repost the pingtest.net results. Just curious how much of a difference it will make. If you need help on logging into the router, search your router model on the internet. The Linksys site should actually have instructions on how to do this.
  12. RWD, go to pingtest.net and post your results here.
  13. I love how everyone was sticking their fingers in the other guy's faces during scuffles. Hilarious. Why was Luongo out there the whole game? 8 goals? He's probably going to cry and play like crap like he did in CHI series now.
  14. Team: Calgary Flames First Line G - Ron Hextall LD - Gary Suter RD - Steve Duchesne LW - Mike Ricci C - Mats Sundin RW - Adam Oates X - Joe Murphy (extra attacker when goalie pulled) Second Line G - Ron Tugnutt LD - Alexei Zhitnik RD - Doug Bodger LW - Joe Murphy C - Adam Oates RW - Dallas Drake (change from #28 to #18) X - Dave Poulin (extra attacker when goalie pulled)
  15. Round 3 games are up on the site. Deadline will be Fri. June 10. Good luck!
  16. I've had this happen to me too, and it seems like it happens more with certain people. I hate it, cheap goals can be scored during this time since the delay and framerate is so bad.
  17. From now on, to make everyone happy, we have decided that no playoff series will be played. I will just pick the winners out of a hat and eventually a champion will be chosen. This is what sucks about online play. When the playoffs come, we can't replace coaches, we rely on people to play their games. Unfortunately, sometimes timing doesn't work out and those guys who were hard to find in the regular season become even tougher to find in the playoffs. It sucks, especially when you have 2 coaches like that playing each other. We try to make an educated decision so that we can move the playoffs along. You can't make everyone happy, I guess. And no one picks who they want to play in the next round. In Iceguy and AJs case, we decided to go with the forum member who had the most edited posts. Iceguy won 1898 - 4.
  18. Hokkee already done with trading and the 1st pick round is not even over with
  19. Is the Iceguy - Hokkeefan trade legal? I thought Iceguy's 4th rnd pick was still in play with his DCIcon trade. Btw, Iceguy essentially traded his 2.5 pick for a 2.21 pick. (2.5 -> 1st rnd protect -> Mark Messier -> 2.21) He's becoming the Hokkee Jr. of trades.
  20. Schedule for Round 2 is up.
  21. Hey Guys, Sorry for the delay, I've been away for work for most of this month. I'll have the schedule updated tomorrow morning.
  22. Yeah I'll have it updated soon. It's difficult when there are still 1st round games that need to be played.
