  1. There were too many newbies and not enough veterans to have a B and C league. We didn't want to make a C league with a bunch of rookies who would quit or not play games in the first few weeks, thus killing the league. So, we made 2 "B" leagues to be on the safe side so we didn't have to replace the entire "C" league for not playing games. This was really a one shot, with the 2 "B" leagues. It was just due to the enormous amount of new guys (which is not a bad thing!). You don't know what to expect from a new guy, nevertheless a whole league of them. Expect an A,B,C league the rest of the way. Glad you enjoyed it! I was very surprised with the reliability with a lot of the new coaches, even with some of them getting their butts whooped from the veterans The community is growing, as we have had our biggest turnout ever, and it was in the Spring (Fall usually fares better).
  2. It is best of 7. Please log the scores on the site!
  3. Playoff Matchups are up on the site here: Playoff Matchups Accessible from the website by selecting the current league and clicking "Playoffs" on the menu bar. All playoff matchups are best of 7. Please try to get the 1st round completed by Monday, May 16th! There were some changes made to the SNES-B bracket. To make an even amount of teams, a team was added (PHI - zacendress6 is the 6th seed from SNES-2). Originally, we had the first rounds set for best of 5, but all series now are best of 7. Those with 1st round byes: GENS-A: 1 - Habs 2 - Carse 3 - Sebe 4 - DCIcon GENS-B: None GENS-C: None SNES-A: None SNES-B: 1 - Crash 2 - Buttweilly 1 - Maniple Leaves 2 - tommy1978 For those who are new, logging games is the same as the regular season. Home team logs first, away confirms, away can change the score if it isn't correct, home team would need to reconfirm. Games 1-4 are displayed initially, and depending on the series record, other games will be made playable (displayed as if nec. on the site). If OT is played, please select the number of OT periods played. Game layout is 2-2-1-1-1, with the higher seed having home-field advantage. Any questions or problems, let me know. Good luck!

  5. The first article explains the ports that Hamachi uses for communication. It connects to the server via TCP, and if TCP fails, it uses SSL. It communicates to the peer via UDP ports. I read it and thought it was interesting, as I never knew the way it actually worked. Just added it for those who were interested. Port Forwarding, like you said, opens ports through the router, which is the "hardware" firewall. Hamachi bypasses this firewall. The software firewall (Windows firewall) needs to have a rule to allow Hamachi access to the internet. Hence, when you first install Hamachi, Windows Firewall asks you if it should allow Hamachi access to the internet. I believe this is the "rule" that everyone is talking about. I know this has nothing to do with LA Robbie's problem, you had said that you didn't understand the firewall rule, I was just giving information on how it works. As far as LA Robbie's problem, I think the only way he would have been able to catch a virus via Hamachi would be if someone was running malicious code on the other side of the connection. Steps to avoid LA Robbie's problems in the furture: - Make a user account (non-administrator) and use this to surf the internet and do all your PC wishes. Give your administrator account a password (most Win XP installs, as an example, have a hidden administrator login that has a default of no password). Whenever software needs to be installed, it will prompt you for admin login and password. This would help with some malware, as a password would be needed to modify certain files and registry entries. - You can use the Microsoft Security Essentials for your anti-virus, anti-malware needs. I guess it's OK, I just installed it to try it out, but there have been some "security fixes" updates to the software, which worries me a little bit. Seems like hackers are finding their way around the protection. - Scan once a week, at least. - Keep your Windows updated with all the latest security patches
  6. Hey smoz, I found this on Hamachi's website. Might better understand it. Hamachi ports and protocols Wiki page on Hamachi: Wiki
  7. I could have sworn you could set up Hamachi to just use one port as well. I would think this would protect your computer by assigning that port only for Hamachi communications, regardless of the other persons setup, no? Regardless, you should shut off Hamachi when you aren't using it. I don't see the point of constantly leaving it on when we use AIM for communication.
  8. Oops my mistake. You should do as smoz says and set up hamachi for port forwarding. Do you have a router or are you directly connected to the modem. There is an option in the Hamachi settings (sorry don't have my laptop in front of me right now) where you can set the port that Hamachi will use. I set it to 45000, as an example. If on a router, you then need to set up your router to allow access to port 45000. Ports should be set up for UDP and TCP. You can also set up these ports to be forwarded as well: ZSNES port is 7845. Kaillera (Genesis) port is 27888 and 27886. You can go to portforward.com and look up how to set up port forwarding on your router. There is also a Port Forwarding Guide that smoz put together. Read that. And stop downloading porn!
  9. Hamachi is used for that reason - to be the middleman between two computers. If you were to do a "direct connect" (using your real IP addresses instead of Hamachi ones), then there might be a slight risk. Hamachi negates that by acting like a server that you both connect to. I don't think you got the viruses from Hamachi. It is possible you some malware on your PC for awhile and just recently got one that slowed your PC down significantly. Just do a regular check of your PC and you should be fine. Hamachi doesn't require opening ports on your computer, which is what opens holes for Trojans and the likes to get on your PC. AVG is good virus software. Also, I use Malwarebytes Anti-malware to check for spyware and other malwares. Most antivirus software do not check for those, so you need another program to do that. You can go to download.com (CNET site) and get some good reviews and downloads for keeping your PC clean. Or you can get a Mac!
  10. Do 64 games play well online? Haven't tried them.
  11. I might have access to the "News" page. I have to check this, if I do, I'll add some updates to it when needed. I also might be able to add the link to nhl94online.com. There already is a link, under "Online Gaming" -> "Classic '94", but it would be nice to change that menu option and add links to nhl94online, blitz, and GDL (if they have a site currently). I am currently working on some new pages, namely a "Milestone" page. I want to add Youtube links to finals games. I want to change some things with the Standings page. I also I also plan on starting to convert all the older seasons (prior to 2008) and add them to the site, probably sometime next week. I would love to put up a page with the player stats for each team, and system. Good idea! Any other ideas, let me know!
  12. I don't know how well it would run on Iceguy's dial-up connection Well, this works for me, since I have banned ESPN as a source for sports for me. The network is way too biased and there are really only a few guys who actually know their stuff. But, it is a shame that this basically means we might never hear the best NHL TV theme song ever again:
  13. If you had Mario Tennis that would be awesome.
  14. No, no, no. You have a modem from the internet company provider. In order to get a wireless connection (Wi-fi it is called), you would need to connect a wireless router to the modem (like a Linksys router). In order to get a wired connection, the wireless router normally has connections on the back for "wired" connection (using a network cable). You would connect a cable between your PC or laptop and the wired connection on the back of the router. Dial-up is completely different. Way slower speeds and ancient. It is a wired connection per se, but not the type we are talking about. What is the company you use for your internet service?
  15. In all seriousness, I have never had a problem with Iceguy's connection and never heard anyone complain about it until now. He is the all-time leader in games played and don't think he could get that with a 14.4k connection (or a 56k if he has an updated modem card). And stop with the Tacoman stuff. It's offensive to the guy. We need to keep him around, he helps out newbies, he plays his games, and some of the things he posts are good for comic relief. Ice, why do you use wireless? Is there a reason you can't do wired? My wireless connection is good ping-wise, but sometimes I get random stutters every few min. Wired is alot more reliable. You should go to pingtest.net and post your results here. That should shut everyone up.
  16. Wait, I'm more interested in iceguys computer setup. Do you still have to log in to AOL to access the Internet? How does the forum look in Netscape Navigator? Iceguys PC: 486 25MHz 4MB RAM running Windows 3.11 for Workgroups and MS-DOS 5
  17. NY sounds good to me. I got an SNES, Genesis, 2 controllers for each, and an SNES NHL94 cartridge I could contribute!
  18. It's OK, bud. I understand. If you want me to change it, I can no big deal. We can make it 30 games or something.
  19. That's my oopsie. Just pay attention to the rules page. I need to correct that.
  20. Read bud, read. Their stats are updating, just not displayed until they play at least 40 games. This is to get rid of all the guys on the list that may have played 3 games and were 3-0 with a 1.000 PCT averaging 7 goals a game.
  21. If you actually read the rules, your beef would have been cooked well done We have replaced coaches after only 1 week already this season. Some guys will let us know if something is up and when they will get it taken care of, which is fine and we don't normally kick them out unless it drags on. If I had the money, a private jet, and everyone's home address, I would knock on their doors every week and force them to play in front of me to make sure they play their games. Unfortunately, this is reality and we are relying on a bunch of people to abide by the checkpoints. Those who make somewhat of an effort after missing 1 checkpoint to make the second one (i.e. posting in the forums, playing games), we let them hang in for a little bit. But, this is the problem with all leagues. We try to do our best in replacing the guys who make it worse.
