  1. I only use NOSE, so I'm guessing here based off how NOSE works, but it looks like the game doesn't actually know if a player is a forward or defensemen exactly. When setting up a team roster, you set the number of forwards (0-F). Any players that appear after that number of players is exceeded, are available for lineup selection as defensemen. That might be all there is to it.
  2. Thanks, and you're welcome. I hope people enjoy them, or like having them in their collection. Doing these is pretty much a labor of love, but you do get better at it and it's satisfying to keep improving them and getting little things right.
  3. I link the player pictures with EARE. Here's the text file for the 97 rom that matches player name to hex address of the right picture. Erase the 97 at the end and put it in the EARE folder, open the rom in EARE, and click set player pictures. That's it. While I'm at it, if you're going to be doing stuff in TileMolester, I bookmarked all the locations/palettes. Here's the .xml file to put in the resources sub-folder of the TileMolester folder. For it to work, the rom and the xml file must have the same name (NHL94.xml = nhl94.bin). Everything works best if you navigate to the location first, then choose the palette second. PlayerCardsDefault97.txt NHL94.xml
  4. Before you import the graphic file you are going to use as the logo (in TileMolester I presume), you have to set the palette. You change the palette colors one-by-one at the bottom of the screen by double-clicking on each square (make sure you are at the right palette location in the rom). You only have about 10 available colors to edit, so you might need to edit the graphics file in another program to reduce the colors present in the source graphics file.
  5. Just noticed this thread. Not having the Islanders fisherman logo at team selection in the 97 rom is a mistake. I had the fisherman in v1 and v2, but accidentally took it out in v3 and didn't catch it in v4. I'll put it back in the 'official' release as well. EDIT: Only took me a few minutes to change. The fixed version with the isles fisherman logo in 97 (which was the original intention) is in the download in the thread; http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/15608-my-deadline-roms/?p=130825
  6. Okay, I figure v4 is done, so I uploaded them all in one zip. As mentioned above, new features are; -Applied newer clockwise sprite hack for better uniform editing. I re-reviewed them all and some look much better IMO. -Period accurate creases and faceoff dots -In-game banners now in original rom style -Some new and revised center ice logos -Some rating tweaks
  7. FYI, I'm almost done re-doing all my roms to V4. For V4s I've already done; -season specific rinks/creases; no blue paint in pre-91 creases, keeping my current rom crease 92-98, and the modern chopped sides for post-99. -clockwise sprite patch for better uniform editing (every uniform re-visited accordingly) -in-game pause menu banners re-done in original NHL 94 text style. I'm running out of things to do! Regarding the center ice logos, coincidentally I started trying out some new ones yesterday also. The thing with those is that you have so little resolution, and you can only use the home jersey color palette, that you are very limited. Accurate representations from that frozenblog are not an option 90% of the time. What I have been doing is looking at various alternate logos from http://www.sportslogos.net/teams/list_by_league/1/National_Hockey_League/NHL/logos/ I already did that in V3 for the SJ, CAR and FLA (and maybe a few others). Because you generally can't be real-life accurate, it's somewhat a matter of taste as to what looks good in the game, but I like having fun with it and adding some character to the roms. I've already played with hockeytown logo, the Leafs logo is certainly do-able, the Flyers '97 30th anniversary logo worked okay, etc. I'll keep playing around this weekend and putting in new logos that work acceptably.
  8. I fixed those two player pictures, and this version appears to be good otherwise. Re-upped.
  9. Looks like you were right. I made a quick ips patch of the changes I made from prelim to release, and applied it your music rom above. I noticed it messed up 2 player pictures on WSH, which I fixed. Hopefully that ips patch didn't break anything else. Give it a shot. 99deadlineV3.bin
  10. Hmmm, I'll have to double check that.
  11. Okay, I put it up. Highlights from the 1998-99 NHL season; -Dallas beats the Sabres in 6 games on the infamous Brett Hull foot-in-the-crease goal. -Awards; Hart - Jagr Norris - MacInnis Vezina - Hasek Calder - Drury Selke - Lehtinen -Leaders; Goals - Selanne, 47 Assists - Jagr, 83 Points - Jagr, 127 Notes on ROM: -Scoring was really on the way down this season. No 50 goal scorers. Only 13 players managed a point/game pace. A team like the Sharks made the playoffs without a single player even reaching 60 points.
  12. Haha, thanks. I hope you enjoy it.
  13. I'll probably have the "official" 99v3 release up tomorrow.
  14. Well, here's a prelim 99 rom. You can take a crack at playoff matchups and music if you want. I'm not going to bother, but everything else is done (other than some possible ratings tweaking). 99deadline-PRELIM.bin
  15. No, I imported the players (ratings and such) from NHL 98. I didn't import the team lineups from NHL 98. The rosters are accurate to the date of the trade deadline (March) of 87, 89, 97, etc.. Roenick, for example, was traded to Phoenix in August 1996 and played the entire 1996-97 season in Phoenix. Another good example is Ed Belfour. He started the 96-97 season on Chicago, was traded to SJ in January where he would finish out the season, but then signed with Dallas in July of the offseason. In my deadline 97 rom, he is on SJ even though he only played 13 games there in between long stints in Chicago and Dallas. It actually took quite a while sorting out all the transactions when you look at a simple roster sheet for every team!
  16. Thank you sir. As a thank you, I did not put the McCarty goal as the title picture! All v3 ROMs now available for download in first post! Major change is player picture included for every starter. Only other change was to change a few center ice logos, I think. Lastly, I have a 99 rom that is done except for player pictures and handedness fix. 1967, let me know if you want to work on the music stuff again for that ROM. The 99 rom will be my last single season rom, I have decided.
  17. Google image to look up handedness?? I hope not. Use this site; http://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/NHL_1997.html http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/NJD/1997.html It sucks that sprite patch doesn't work on these roms. Would've been nice and now it's gonna bother me, but the only alternative I see is to re-do the roms from scratch, cutting and pasting piece by piece. Ugh.
  18. Changing back the start-up picture is <5 mins, so no big deal. Regarding the shortened names, that was just me not bothering to change what the EA did. Adding extra characters is automatic in NOSE (from the Teams tab, hit the button for auto-manage free bytes). It shouldn't cause any issues. Lastly, I just tried the enhanced clockwise sprite hack, and I really like what it does to the uniform editing allowing for more accurate and nuanced color patterns (and helmets), but it conflicted with the graphics already edited and created a whole bunch of errors on the ice surface. Must be the rom base I used in v2 (I think I used one of the blitz roms). Until I figure that out, gonna have to hold off on using that patch.
  19. If you haven't done so, that's fine. I'm going to need to repeat the process for the 99 rom I have, so I may as well do them both at the same time.
  20. Thanks for your help. I'll start adding pictures and playing around with things. A few other notes; -Did you check player handedness bugs in this version? I just copied over player attributes from NHL 98 via NOSE which apparently had more issues than I realized, so I'll review them unless you already did so. -Apparently I only applied the old clockwise sprite edit, and not his newer one with the separate helmet color. I'll give it a shot and see about updating uniforms. -Some good news is that I was successful in using empty space at the end of the ROM to create new player picture slots, so now all NLC starters will have player pictures.
  21. I'm not very picky about the music. Not having been involved with it, I say just do whatever you think is best.
  22. I certainly won't object if you want to work on some things I decided to skip. The organ music is off for all ROMs except 94 and 95, because to add or delete a single team means reshuffling all of them. I recopied the rosters, uniforms, and graphics, but skipped the music and playoff matchups. I decided to say screw it on the pictures, and I'm doing v3 now that will include player pictures (although I'm currently capped at 149 picture slots, meaning I can't get every starter in mid/late 90s roms). 87 and 89 already updated for that. I also have a 99 rom, but currently has no pictures, and will also need the 97 fixes for stuff you identified. I guess you can do whatever you think is necessary on 97 and upload it from there telling me what you updated, and I'll put in player pictures. Figure out 99 after that.
  23. Damn, NHL 98 was a mess. I didn't check that because I assumed they had it right. I guess another thing to go back and fix. And FYI, you can open my roms in NOSE for easy editing. That's how I do it all.
  24. I was messing around with player cards/pictures, and have been successful in changing them per wboy's old guide. His guide shows the locations for the 149 player pictures in the original rom. How/where do you add more pictures for bigger roms and for more teams and players? I assume with the 30 team rom at 2MB, there is plenty of space, and clockwise does it with his hacks. Thanks.
  25. FYI, my "97 deadline" rom basically is that. Some minor tweaks to player ratings, and rosters specifically set to trade deadline March 1997 (NHL 98 ratings are based on 1996-97 season performance, and tried to match opening day October 97). http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/15608-my-deadline-roms/ Obviously the more the merrier with roms, but if you're merely seeking to the do same thing you could save yourself a whole lot of work...
