  1. Skating w/ dual sticks is WAY easier. I failed to be able to stop on a dime & crease cut type moves as well. I'll have to try it again, as I only used that for a day as well!
  2. So I used to play Gretzky hockey on the keyboard way back when. When I first found out about '94 online, I was trying to play w/ the keyboard, and found it a disadvantage, so I only spent one day on it like that till I had my joystick. A) Does Plabby use keyboard? I didn't realize it was such an advantage. Do you have to set the key settings to some special way to make it easy to go diagonally? I only was doing it for the one day, as I said, and I was using up & right arrows at the same time to get my guy to skate 45 degrees to the right, etc.
  3. Congrats Plabby. Pass shots or not, the kid has legit mastered this game. HIs goalie/defense has gotten as good as his offense. I think he could win 3-2 most games if he wanted to. Lots of respect for his play in all facets.
  4. Raphy, I look forward to it. Always enjoy our games.
  5. I played for 20 years one way, and that included w/ penalties off (which eliminates the B Check), and is still my preferred way to play, because that's how I played for so long. I don't go around asking you guys to play me online w/ no penalties, cause the crying is never ending. We had penalties off in SNES Dynasty, and the B check was out as a result, and a lot of guys loved the dynasty style of the game, but hated adjusting and losing their B check. Anyhow, it was different, and a s result, was a fun change for some but not the preferred method. Pass shot would/does take a REAL practice to learn. It's why I don't use them. I think Hokkee calling the pass shot a glitz is fair, but calling everyone out for using it would be a stretch? I got the impression from his post it was more a challenge of your manhood that you play like sissies. Maybe that's why your panties are in a bunch Either way, pass shot is a glitz, and most of you are sissies who seem to beat me every time we play!
  6. I don't play w/ pass shots, and don't want to spend my time learning them. Whenever you play someone who uses them, the game is a totally different game. I think Kupuck/Coach Mac have done well w/ smaller leagues & some set rules, so suggest of forming a smaller league w/ no pass shots/cheap goals if you like that play enough. I'd probably join if it was the right setup/guys in it. I don't like playing the game as much when it becomes super pass shot/cheap mode. I don't openly complain about it, but I don't see the need for the over reaction to someone stating they don't like it. It is not real hockey & it is arcade style all the way, but within that, NBA Jam even had some modes that were no fun because they became too silly. I was around in the '90s playing the game, and back then, you had to play in the same room with someone, and if you got too cheap/gay with your play, you could count on a hard punch/shot for your gimmicks. Still funny Sether w/ his "Favorite Way to Score". That gave me a laugh.
  7. There were three choices!!! Just not the three you suggested (Y button counted) I think going over it all after Freydey already said what he said isn't going to help anyone get over the disagreement w/ the decision any easier. I think he clearly stated a distaste for a "middle ground" of not doing one or the other but an in between. Kind of like "cut the baby in half" solution if you half draft/half protect, everyone loses.
  8. Looks like Major is set. Everyone has a different first team selected and all 8 teams in, so I'm assuming that finalizes who is what team, and we can start exhibing a Blitz version of classic w/ lines on to figure out which lines we will be using. Confirmed?
  9. I voted yes, as I play snes as well & agree w/ Bo, it's clearly one if the better features. I think it beds to be a strong yes to make the change though. Most great goal play remains the same but you lose that second of skating your defender into nowhere while you wait for goalie switch. Most of us anticipate the need for goalie switch in advance enough to always get him. Gens has a lot more goalie starts into an animation as you crease cut type thing so by the time you get the goalie, he doesn't move left or right now & the goal scores. Y goalie control would change this & lower cheap goals. That would clearly be a difference w/ y goalie. I like both options still working as in snes, I'm often still trying to hold the b button & watch a goal go by I should have been able to stop.
  10. I know my team falls under the "not stacked" category!!! Could add a wrinkle of offering to use a protect from the next season in the current season, but adds a pull ahead cost. So, Raph could use his Round 1 protect for next season to hold a guy to prevent losing Neely this season. Obviously, it's a no brainer, as without that, he would only have a late #1 to protect next season, as under the current new "old" rules, he'd lose both guys. But this way, allowing a coach to pre-use a protect guarantees the team to lose most of it's luster the following season. Then figure out if he loses his Round 4 protect, something for the "early termination fee". This would be rules applied post re-draft, of course. Just an idea.
  11. I just don't see it as "work". I could see it if a guy said, "My team was sh&t last year, so I could be good this year" type of sacrifice being a valid point, however, that's not what I'm reading on the board. Setting up the best team you can get for that season with an eye to having a good team the next season is a form of playing Blitz/"fantasy style hockey building". It's how you play/draft in Blitz. Not work. I just think the obvious talk is there exists a tilt of talent with some teams doing very good at crushing the flawed system of old, and other teams, not so talented, and a desire to return more to the original setup to keep things balanced. The surge in replacements might be a result of this, or just life pulling coaches away, boredom, who knows?. Anyhow, I think Freydey's point (and his would have the most weight to me) is that those teams were not built under the rules that will be used going forward so why keep them?? Yeah, they were set up over 3 years, but set up with a set of rules that are flawed and allow for uneven teams long term. That's what I'm hearing, and the counter points to that seem to state other things but not deal with that sole issue at hand. To me, I think anyone who wants to keep their team as-is, needs to have it reviewed maybe by a committee and if it's too unbalanced, forced to draft like everyone else. Sounds like enough guys have asked for a re-draft. Those that will be normal teams just customized to that owners liking, let them keep their team. I don't know if Robbie's team is "stacked" or just "customized". I'm assuming Raph's team is stacked based on it's constant mention of being the best ever and having two #1 picks on the roster.
  12. Well, I don't really have a 2nd round player worth protecting, so I'd have to trade that Protect Pick to someone who has two Round 2 players they want to keep, I'd assume. If you made it no trading protect picks, I'm behind pretty quickly here. Obviously, without replacement coaches, the leagues would have folded from lack of interest, so I see the desire to help with a re-start, especially given how many were needed. I just believe that it should only be done if the benefit goes to the top teams as well. If the guys who have been playing see an imbalance that Robbie's draft proposal doesn't fix, then vote amongst the top & "make it so", "make an executive decision". I clearly think that everyone understands all the matters at hand and it's just a matter of what they think is best going forward so to me, repeating the options won't change that and trying to figure out how much resistance or acceptance of the changes isn't the best way. Best is to have the guys who are going to have to run it, replace coaches, be accountable for a balanced league, etc make a call on it, and those of us who are going to play the league to do our best to enjoy it.
  13. So, I'm new to Blitz & took over a team that I wasn't a fan of, other than having Lindros. Not sure if under the rules I'd keep him or not, as I didn't bother digging into the rules since it seemed clear, something might be changing. Anyhow, as a new guy, you normally WANT to start your own thing, which I would prefer. BUT, as a new guy, I'd hate to go 3-4 years with another guys roster, change it to mine, and then have to start over again to appease other new guys. That said, in a start over, the new roster is 100% your picks, so it still would be your guys, so I'd be happier with that result than making everyone else suffer so I could keep 3-4 guys on my team that I might be able to draft anyhow, but to each their own. The question then becomes, how many are "suffering" keeping the current rosters if you don't re-draft vs how many have to lose their teams they want to keep if you do? Technically, I'm under the suffering category, but I've removed my vote, as I don't think a replacement owner's rights should even weigh half of guys who've been around 4-5 seasons.
  14. As someone that was a replacement coach, I don't really think my vote should have the same weight as guys who have been in & developing the league of multiple seasons. I think Smoz's mind works better than most minds out there, and it's no surprise that the league & site he developed ended up being everyone's favorite & best rated of all the things I've seen on the site. He's made some suggestions. I'd have the top 2-3 guys who've been around the league/game the longest get together with him & come up with the best way of doing something going forward. 100% sure that getting everyone's input is going to still leave not having everyone happy, but at least in the end, we might again have the best product/league & hopefully, less need for replacement coaches like I was last season. My vote goes in whichever direction you guys agree on.
  15. I don't agree w/ penalizing guys from league to league, as some times, it's a different commish, and different style & different league mates, and you might just get turned off by one of the three, but be a great league mate in the other leagues. Plus, there is enough drama already. I think crossing league penalties begs for the Divas to flare up & ruin both leagues. ALSO, downsizing creates for a more stacked league, and changes the draft values/format/trades, etc, and could spice things up. By having "less" talent in the league over the past two seasons, I believe the league records/stats are probably already "tainted" anyhow.
  16. I think downsizing to 18-20 teams would make for less DNP's, and make the playoffs re-seed from all conferences, but still have Regionally weighted schedules. This does 3 things. #1 Creates a real wait list so you have meaningful replacement coaches when needed & tightens some of the competition. #2 By making the playoff seeding not conference selective, you don't have to worry how even you make the conferences, and can focus on put guys in the same time zones in the same divisions. #3 By having the divisions weighted for the majority of your games to play, you get the stats, win/loss records close enough to talent/vs record and get less DNPS. While you might end up with a guy who would normally make the playoffs all day missing out to a lesser opponent because he had an easier schedule, you already have that because of the high number of DNP's. I'd do 18 teams, with Commish & maybe two guys voting who is in/out based on skill & ability to play those games. Make the playoffs more exclusive, because let's face it, maybe 6 guys play for a Cup. 8 teams makes it intense, or you could go with 16 teams, and everyone pretty much makes it. But with reduced teams, you have a higher talent on the Waiting List & can replace guys not playing their games if needed.
  17. Congrats Witty. I think the biggest part was the Wittster was rusty from his hiatus from NHL94, and once he got his legs back, was as strong as any man in the league, especially with the Rangers and top draft picks added too. That said, seemed like most of the playoffs went from a puck bounce here or there to having different winners in all rounds. Great season buds. Look forward to more.
  18. I definitely can't do most of it, which is why I'm greatful these nerds have been so generous w/ their spare time. Didn't catch you were joking. Sorry bout that.
  19. It's only been 5 years... You talk like they are on your payroll their bud. Trying stroking some checks & then can make some demands there. I'm greatful anybody did anything that lets me have some extra fun w/ the game.
  20. Thanks for the headsup there Hali. I'm supposed to work during this time. Gonna have to try to work something out for this. Drinking & NHL94 is always a good thing.
  21. Do we re-seed for round 2 or go straight tourney style & stay in your bracket?
  22. At work today, so I'm not able to watch the game. Stopped by online to check the score & box score to see what's going on: Subban has an assist, and his team is leading 2-1, yet the box score has him +/- at "-1". Same box score on ESPN & NHL.com. I'd assume at worst you could be if you have an assist, and your team has allowed one goal is E for EVEN. Am I wrong or is it an error?
