  1. Thanks CoachMac! And just a bit about my process: For physical things like speed and shot power, I try to use the eye test. But for other things, I use stats all the way. If a guys scores 25 goals, he will have a 4-4 shot. If he scores 30+, he will almost be guaranteed a 5 acc. Same thing for off awr. I did the ppg average for all of the top ~150 players. If they had a certain threshold, they were a 5. Before this season, Crosby (1.36), Malkin (1.20), Ovechkin (1.18) and Jagr (1.16) were the only four current players scoring above a 1.01 points per game clip, so they earned the 6's. I gave a 5 to anyone who had, I think, above a .69 average. But, I based that on a gut feeling as well, because I had to draw a line somewhere, and drawing that line is the most subjective piece. CoachMac and I seem to have aligning philosophies. We want the best players to be the best in the game. I just took it a psychotic step further and rated all of them
  2. I made an error when I added AtomicRaven back in. He was #7, Brutus #8. Sorry guys!
  3. I think there are six 6's, and far less 5's (probably 15 or so?) Total guess and if I wasn't heading out right now I'd count them haha. But I feel it'd be weird to match it tit-for-tat, because it isn't really the same league.
  4. Coach Mac, right on man. Exactly the way I feel too. I agree 100% with everything in this box hahaha ^ EVERYTHING! And it really is so hard to get it right, and what is right for me may not be right for someone else.
  5. Brutus I agree, and that is sort of how I went about it for the process. You need to have the best be the best. And, you want their skillset on the ice to reflect in the game, to a point. I definitely agree on the # of players that should have a certain attribute strength. Ie, speed (possibly one of the most sought after skills as a GM). In this ROM: 6 speed = 4 players 5 spd = 74 fwds It is so hard, when you look at the list that have 5 spd, to drop one. But, if we did the 1-15 for next season it'd be something to think about. Then you can really spread out the attributes and have more of a measuring stick. Looking at the superstars, I feel Patrick Kane is the best reflection of what his real-life counterpart would be hahaha. It really is tough to get an accurate picture of each player. The game that really nailed it was Madden way back in the day. They had 1-100 that you could edit. Really allowed you to create a more accurate simulation, which I think is what we all want. I do want it to be a bit video gamey, still, if you know what I mean
  6. Yeah I saw that and I wondered about adding that in. I figured I would need to set something up in excel first and then figure it out. Daunting, but looks like it could be awesome
  7. Please post your pick in this format: 1.1 Burdy selects Wayne Gretzky, or 1.1 Philly selects Wayne Gretzky 1.2 Maverick selects ...
  8. Nice, congratulations. I'd guess that 96% of skaters in the NHL are "fast."
  9. I'd love to have him, but he has been really unresponsive so far. Since we are moving down to 18, and he was the last to confirm, I have to remove him and add him to the waitlist. Sucks, but we need to keep it at 18 or 20 and GoPens94 was super-flake. Said he really wanted to play and then did not answer two emails, but viewed them Sorry, Atomic Raven. Answer my pm's bud! Happy to discuss with you or get you back in if we can find a 20th last minute. All - I have two drafts set to go - one for 18 teams and one for 20. Both are in the gdoc.
  10. From Depch via AIM (this post actually spurred me to create this thread, so thanks Depch!). I'd love more feedback like this! Depch I have some feedback on a few teams an their players. This does not mean a demand of a change, but as a constructive feedback for future maybe or something to help you catch your eye on. And this only reflects my views and my experiences on the players. I know it is a hard work as I have done this in newer NHL's myself and you just can't make it perfect at once. As a finn my views are more indepth towards them. Minnesota: M.Koivu - I think his offensive awareness should be 4 and he might even be a skater with a speed of 3. Guy is strong as an ox and has a great will to make things happen. Passing should be dropped from 5 to 4 as well. His shot is not powerfull, but it is relatively accurate and can backhand it to the roof with ease in shootouts. M.Granlund - He can make very slick plays and should have offensive awareness of 5, very aware of surroundings, but it has not translated to high points yet, guy is still young though. As of late coach Yeo has trusted him in the end of the games as well when the team is leading and taking a more defensive role as well. He had good defence in finnish league as well and was able to shut down players, I think def awareness should be a 4. Passing 5 for sure, makes nice backhand passes and some really unsuspected ditches around. E.Haula - high top end speed, should maybe have a 5 speed. I know the feel of not "everyone" being able to have a speed of 5, but that's how the NHL today is, a speedier game. If anything maybe the smoz scale of 1-15 instead of 1-6 could come to use in future. J.Brodin - Guy is a tremdendeous skater with great stick work. I would up his agility to 5 and stick 5. A bit of a mold of a young Lidström. A gem in the Swedish hockey youth. Florida: A.Barkov - Guy is a beast and should be rated above Bjugstad. He is their shutdown center and consistently has kept them on low score. He is in the mold of Kopitar already. Was ~PPG ever since Jags came in to teach the youth how to play. Awarenesses maybe 4/5 off or 5/6 def and passing 5. Hubs-Barky-Jags is one of the most fun lines to watch. Hope he comes back from another freak injury fast. J.Jokinen guy is a very solid player and does what the coach wants you to do, but defensive awareness 5 has maybe been gracious, I would drop it down to 4. Barky actually got injured on one of his defensive means, he was blocking shots and got a hard shot to the hand, they'll propably instruct him to not be so keen on doing that stuff in regular season
  11. Hey guys, this thread is a place to discuss ratings in a friendly manner. For the next update of the ROM (for season 2) I will gladly take feedback and make changes accordingly. Not every piece of feedback will necessitate a change, but let's talk about it
  12. Yes, yes, and more yes. 1. I think we've confirmed we have the WBF in that makes chk rating matter. Smoz hack should have fixed this. 2. Very true. I need to temper that a bit next season, or go to 1-15 for ratings. 3. That really is the thing - it isn't that I necessarily disagreed with anything said (though I pretty much did), but it is the way it is said and the "future outlook" of how things would be. That being said, I want to create a page for "Ratings Feedback" where that can be a forum for such things. If anyone saw Depch's post in the AIM group, that is how you voice an argument. You give a statement and give proper backing to that statement. I whole-heartedly agree with everything Depch said in the AIM group, and love the way he said it. Really, I do need help with these rosters and the ratings. I am always tweaking things because I get new info or see something that makes me rethink my original position on a player. But it is difficult to follow everything and get everything "perfect", if there is such a thing. There are plenty of attributes that aren't perfect simulations of the real life players. But like Brutus said, that is ok. This is still NHL94, just a bit different
  13. I don't think we have 20 any more. I haven't heard back from GoPens94, so I am not counting him for now. I'd have to add a new coach (ideal) or drop the last confirmed coach (not ideal). Spread the word, there is a spot open.
  14. So here is what I did for the ROM: Wboys original 30-team ROM with WBF added in manually. So, that should not have done what I wanted it to do (include chk rating as a piece of hitting)...but, I did run this through Smoz rom hack. So, the q is - did that WBF do the blitz fix? If it does, then we should be all good. I will take a deeper look at this in the morning.
  15. Still waiting for GoPens94 to confirm he is in. If we don't get a 20th, we'll have to lose one team or find another GM.
  16. Draft Unofficial Start: Sunday, November 8th - Noon Eastern Time (This is when people can begin picking) Draft Official Start Date: Friday, November 13th - 4pm Eastern Time (Begin Deadlines) Draft Ends on Wednesday, Nov. 18th Trade Deadline: Sunday, November 29th at 4pm Eastern Lineups Due: Friday, December 4th League Start Date: Sunday, December 13th League Regular Season End Date (Target): Sunday, February 14th
  17. This ROM has all of the players on their regular teams so you can check them out. If you've played my "V3" ROM, please note every player has had their aggression reduced by -1. I want to see if this helps limit penalties by the CPU. Once we get finished with Round 6 of the Draft, I will post an updated ROM for the preseason. NVLpreseasonV1.bin
  18. Please post your trades here in this type of fashion: Skip (Boston) trades pick 1.11 and 6.10 to Lupz (New York Rangers) for pick 1.18 and 4.3. The other manager will then "approve" the trade, below. Once approved, I will post as an approved trade. Everyone gets 5 trades.
