  1. Hello and Good Day! I did a search and couldn't find the info I want, but if someone has it, share the links please. 1. How big of an advantage is home ice advantage for the teams that have it? 2. How does it work? Does it affect every attribute? (Shooting, skating, checking etc. is 10% better? Does it impact likelihood of taking penalties?) 3. Confirm that if you take a team that has it, like CHI, in GDL, you reap the benefit? (So for GDL you should seekout teams that have HIGH and HIGH for Home Ice and Road Ice advantage, if such a team exists.) Thanks! Aqua
  2. > SEASON ENDS JANUARY 25th at MIDNIGHT! Jan 25 is a Monday. Does this mean the season ends at the end of Monday (Tue 00:00), or the start or Monday (Mon 00:00)? I am done but am just curious... Great Season and great ROM BTW! Nice work!
  3. You know, me and Atomic Raven used to talk about making a doc on the game. Unlike Mikey, who makes sh*t happen, we were all talk, and zero action. I salute you, Mikey, for making this happen! And I am sure whatever you put together will be amazing! Our own idea was to do a road trip movie, seeking out the real creators of this amazing game. Not Mark Lesser, but the guy or guys before him, most responsible. The guy or guys that got the engine right, and perspective right, and the look and feel, that existed in the earliest version of this game, NHL Hockey / EA Hockey from 1991, way before NHL'94. Thanks to the interweb, I have done enough research to know the sole programmer of this game originally, and the first Madden game too, was a wunderkind named Jim Simmons. He is the guy I most want to hear from. I am a programmer myself, and not really much of a hockey fan honestly, and I would love a doc that was 80% on the early development of the game -- especially Jim Simmons! -- and 20% on the cult community that still plays it to this day. Hearing from hockey players that are in the game, but don't really have a love for the videogame like we do, is personally not interesting to me. (I know I may be expressing a minority opinion, but thought I would put it out there.) But I look forward to whatever you put together, Mikey! Edit: Actually one player I would like to hear from is Jeremy Roenick. I would like you to let him know that a big part of what made him the best player in the game was actually a glitch, and explain the weight bug to him! I would love to see his reaction to that!
  4. And I disagree. At least for the penalty shot bit. Being able to take a shot after a poke check, or skate around in circles, yada, yada is not part of the NHL's rules, but it is part of the "Arcade Style" hockey game called NHL94. A glitch is one thing, but this is no glitch. It is built into the game. (By coincidence I posted on this same topic an hour ago in another thread.)
  5. This is the first time I have ever seen this guide. One thing I wonder about is the penalty shot thing. I have never thought about having to do penalty shots the real way they occur? This seems absurd to me. A glitch is one thing -- I would definitely dump the puck if my opponent had goalie lock happening. But if I am taking a penalty shot and he poke checks me? Scoring after that is even sweeter! (I always thought I was a good sport, but here is one instance where my natural instinct goes against proper etiquette of the community. But having a 2nd attempt at scoring after a poke check, or even swooping around in a circle before shooting -- technically not allowed in the NHL -- just doesn't feel "dirty" to me? It's not a glitch and it's a lot of fun! Maybe I am a jerk after all. )
  6. It has been four days since someone posted in this thread, but it is too juicy to leave alone!! One thing I am wondering is, say we did have recorded video of the play in question? That would tell us which eye witness account is closer to how they have been described, true. So public support would either be for AJ (if "it was a money goal" is confirmed) or Seth (if "the goal was greatly helped by lag"), BUT! According to the letter of the law, the fact is a goal is a goal, right? So even though we would have our "ethical" answer about who's version of events is closer to the truth, we already have our official answer: goals stand, even when caused/influenced by lag. Right? Or, perhaps Kingraph or a commish in general, would actually make some sort of "good faith" ruling when there is video evidence? (Not so much in this case, since things moved on, but in future cases, when there is video evidence?) Or is the bottom line always a goal is a goal is a goal, short of complete desync?
  7. Awesome, Halifax! All coming together in the end. Like Field of Dreams: "If you host it, they will come!"
  8. Can u pencil me in for Fri at 8:30pm CST? (Which I believe is 9:30pm EST, my time.) Yes?
  9. I use the roster extraction tool for GENS to compare players. Like Brutus said, it is very handy for draft leagues. (And comparing players in general.) If I played SNES I would love to use this tool. Nice work, Chaos.
  10. In a nutshell, after all the rhetoric, this is the meat of the issue: 1. Seth says it was a free goal due to lag 2. AJ says it was an earned goal and lag did not impact that fact So really it boils down to two different eye witness accounts (his word against his).
  11. This is the thing, no you can't pause and discuss lag effects everytime it happens. BUT! How often does Uncle Seth pause to discuss such things (I am guessing rarely)? And what is the context (tie game, 2 minutes left)? And how big of a game was this? (Playoffs.) In this situation I would show good faith and give up a goal (or find whatever solution Seth wanted) right away. That is just good sportsmanship, IMHO.
  12. IMO if the other guy has a clean record, you should dhow good faith and offer a goal (or something) right away. Shows good faith. If it is showing lag you never know how it looked on their end.
  13. Thanks for your details... I think I got it now. Or at least I know what to try and do. (Until recently I was a B-masher with mixed success. Now I see my approach was off.) Thanks!
  14. I am even newer than JV but also have a opinion. First, it is disappointing to hear Uncle Seth say he won't play in leagues with AJ, especially since this appears to be the first time he has had a misunderstanding with him. Hopefully things will cool down and he changes his mind on this point because AJ is a class act, IMO. In a nutshell, tt sounds to me like the game was laggy, and for one particular goal, Seth believes the lag contributed to him getting scored on, and AJ feels it was going in with or without the lag. It is "his word against my word", but it is also possible how it appeared on each side was a little different, too, since lag was kicking in. Because both players have clean records, and Seth felt he got ripped off, and it is possible things looked different on his end (as things get out of sync) I would lean towards making him happy and agreeing the goal should not count. Then it is a matter of whether to play a new game of two minutes, a new period, or a whole new game, or Seth gets an empty net goal? The strange part is, it seems that AJ offered the empty netter, so why wouldn't Unce Seth agree to that in the beginning? That is where I am confused? It seems like you guys "got it right" and then somehow didn't follow through on your gut's fair arrangement? (I will say asking for a Commish ruling is not how I would go... destroys flow of game completely. Or if you do ask for a Commish ruling -- which I would not! -- I would halt the game and agree to play based on how he rules another time.)
  15. Ok, to be clear: 1. the ball punch is with my stick, so it is more of a spear, right? 2. the ball punch will only work when the players are facing (or almost facing) each other (since you can hit someone in the balls from behind, after all)? I am trying to clear this up because I have been mashing B with no precision, but for me to do surgical strikes I need to know what I am doing more clearly.
  16. Thanks everyone for the replies and info. Bu especially Kingraph and Plabax, who are two guys that definitely send my guys flying and overwhelm me from the drop of the puck. (I should also be noted, however, neither denied the existence of a special X-button, or rather, KO-button, that sends all opponents of any weight flying! j/k) Kingraph mentioning "...your b-check will work better when properly positioned. So to the extent you avoid skating straight up and down, it will be harder for your opponent to line up the b-check..." really hits home because I have been skating straight up with speedy Ronning (and likely getting clobbered). And Plabax talking about intercepting pucks with B and even A is some high level stuff I have never heard of before! Thanks, guys!
  17. Hello and Good Day! I am playing GDL for the first time, and the caliber of play is higher than I have ever played, and I am getting killed! And I love it! Really impressed with what some guys can do. Like they have some secret buttons or something that I don't have access to, and I am under the gun the whole game. But here is the most impressive thing I have seen, and I would credit only 2 or 3 guys that really make me feel this way: I cannot knock their guys down, even with solid checks (B or C) and yet when they graze my guys, they go flying like they are bowling pins made of flypaper. What is the secret? I am mashing on B buttons (and sometimes C) doing poke checks all the time, and sometimes they work (mostly not). But what are the sensei-masters doing? Is it machine gun button pressing - ratatat!!!! -- or is it perfectly timed B-checking (or C checking or CB checking) done sparingly but precisely? Or is it an angle thing? Or maybe it is usually done with one master checker they always use? (I don't think this is the case; seems like they can all send me flying.) (I wish in some of the youtube videos I have seen of guys like Kingraph and Plabax that somehow their button pressing was displayed in real-time, too.) Seriously, sometimes the puck touches me for 1/1000 of a second, and then I am grazed by the opponent, and my guy goes flying like he was shot? Makes me feel like there is a secret X-button that they have and I don't. And I could swear sometimes I don't see a checking motion, just the most fleeting of contact, but maybe I am seeing things due to game induced post traumatic stress disorder? Any thoughts from anyone -- victims or killers -- are appreciated!
  18. That is a weird looking controller. Kind of looks like an amputee the way the righthand is stumpy instead of the whole thing being symmetrical.
  19. What is the difference between the two? (And are you 100% sure they aren't the same thing?)
  20. Swiss Chalet is usually pretty good, for glorified fast food. It is also a super Canadian thing to eat, so I salute your instincts. Rotisserie chicken with their greasy French fries and delicious chalet dipping sauce is a great meal when hung over. But, you must stick to the chicken and fries. No fish or ribs or chicken pot pies, just the rotisserie chicken and fresh cut fries with sauce.
  21. Toronto looks good! Thanks for putting it together, Raph!
  22. I love these videos of yours! Thanks for taking the time to do them!
  23. Yeah, I am more familiar with Ronning due to hundreds of games with Vancouver, so would rather keep him #7. But if the community objected (I saw Plabax calling out people earlier for number choices) I will change it up for "the greater good". I am attaching the ROM again with my updated lines (I figured it out)... sorry for 2 updates for minor issues but I am new to NOSE. From now on I will leave the ROM updates to the pros. GDL_XIV_pre_v05.bin
  24. I used NOSE for the first time and changed Sandstrom from #7 to #17, a number he wore on 2 other teams. Ronning keeps #7. One thing, I didn't see where to switch the lineup? I want Ronning on LW and Muller on RW. So whoever edits the ROM next I would appreciate that switch.
