  1. Regarding pausing, the recommendation above is "Pausing when your opponent is in control of the puck or during action is EXTREMELY RUDE". I take this to mean, that ANY pause during league games should be avoided, even if you have the puck in your own zone, right? I know if my opponent pauses for any reason, even when they have the puck, it is distracting and wrecks the flow. Pausing is only for emergencies, right? I personally only pause if there is something urgent (like my daughter wakes up crying, or an alarm is going off or something). And if I do, I always make sure I have the puck at least, and dump it to the other guy when play is unpaused. For non-emergencies, like if my opponent just killed off a penalty, and wants to rejig their lineup, pausing -- even if they have the puck in their own zone -- is poor etiquette, right?
  2. That is good to hear. I had a feeling in my gut that more people were leaving than usual. not necessarily in Spring Classic B, but overall. Guess my spidey sense was misfiring. Also, yes, you are an amazing ambassador, Raph. I have met many new guys that played there first games against you. (And some of them say they lost by a goal only, which is obviously a sign you are taking it easy on them.) (I know you were not fishing for a compliment, I am just keeping it real here.) Tex, you are a super solid dude, too. Thanks, guys.
  3. I have mixed feelings about this. It is irritating that people drop off, but I think we could be doing more to support them, and nurture them, and get the community to grow. One thing that comes up now and again is newbies getting crushed by guys that are much better than them. I know in my own case - and I think many of us that stick around are like this -- I want to get crushed! To learn, and to see what is out there. But I think a good chunk of people do not want this. (And maybe I wouldn't have either, if I were younger and took this thing more seriously.) They are probably the best at this ancient game among their friends, then they join and online league, and get crushed 12-0 a couple times. It is probably hard to take. Also, who they face can make a big difference. Let's face it, there are a few bad apples, and even more guys that while not jerks, they just aren't that friendly. If your first experience is with a jerk (especially if he runs up the score) who has an attitude in AIM, you may choose to bail as well. The first few games with someone new should be all about welcoming them, and answering questions in AIM for them, with the games themselves being secondary, IMO. This concept of being patient and saying "you have any questions?" in AIM, making them feel welcome, would really go a long way. I have some more thoughts, but don't want to write a novel. But I feel like there should be some sort of "I am new" thread or even better a video that explains things in a friendly manner, and welcomes newbs to the community, and not just a bunch of links to other threads and using Kailera. Maybe there should be an AIM group just for newbies, with the understanding that the guys their need to be helped and hand held a lot? (I know there is the "GENS Buds", but maybe a "NEW PLAYER" group, where it is understood that the goal is helping a guy, and not letting them fall through the cracks, would help?) Maybe there should be a sticky thread that acts as an "Online Reputation", and everyone who joins a league gets entered in the first message; just a list of players. If they drop off or act like a jackass, it is written up, for all to see, forever. And if they leave a league, there is some sort of exit interview, that explains what happened and why? (Raph mentioned guys let him know instead of just going AWOL, so I would like to hear what they say? But if they go AWOL, that would be indicated, too. The Online Reputation thread would serve two purposes: act as a record of conduct, and give us a feel for why people are bailing.) In many and maybe even most cases, the guys that drop have shown their true colors and we are better off without them. But, I am sure not in every case. We could do more, IMO. I have only been here since September. To the vets, does it seem like the online activity is shrinking, growing, or staying the same? (Guess I wrote a novel after all.)
  4. Do you know why people are quitting? Is it tech troubles or getting ass-kicked-itis? Can we do something to fix or mitigate this?
  5. Thanks Brutus. I dunno what is up and I am just not going to worry about it. As long as my win/loss is right that is the main thing. Thanks!
  6. No biggie, Coach. I dunno about you, but I am definitely not "chasing stats". The only stat I care about is 100% game completion.
  7. You know, I will ask Coach to upload his version. If it has a problem with his savestate, that will be some sort of clue, right? And if his saves fine, well, I dunno? I guess it was my savestate? (Although that doesn't explain why it worked for you on your local site?)
  8. Nope. Don't worry about it. You are right, you don't have time to do this type of thing, and do too much already. Not a big deal.
  9. Dang, I uploaded your version and still no love. I am not worried about it anymore, I just hope everything is ok on the NHL94online side of things? (And that it isn't indicative of stat errors that wouldn't be obvious when there are many games/stats?)
  10. Doh! Of course. Kinda forgot that these savestates were... Well, savestates. Of course I could lead it and then do another save at correct time. Obvious solution rifht under my nose. Listen Chaos, thx for showing this out. And thanks a lot for managing nhl94online... It really makes the leagues 100x more fun. You da man!
  11. Ahhh, I was too quick on the trigger. Ok. Thanks for looking into this, Chaos. I will see if Coachmac can upload his version. And if not, not a huge deal. At least the win/loss information seemed correct... Thanks guys!
  12. Okkkkkaaaayyyyy... I resubmitted the file and it accepted it ok. But! The stats are still wrong. So something is either wrong with the savestate file, or with the PHP parser that reads the savestates. Chaos should be notified. And, Raph can you delete it one more time, and I will ask Coachmac is he can submit HIS savestate. If it is broken again, I would say their is a website problem? What do you think?
  13. Yes I have savestate. Thanks! Yes, I am glad this happened early. Later in season with more stats I probably wouldn't notice! (But now I know if I get a white screen on submit something fishy happened.) Thanks, Raph!
  14. Wow, how did you figure that out? Now that you mention that, on one of my game submits (must have been the one you highlighted) I got a blank white screen after submit. But then when I looked at my schedule, I saw it seemed to "take" (there was no longer a link to submit) so I figured it was ok. Thanks, Raph. (Seems like the easiest thing to do is to delete the game and have me re-submit. Do you have the ability to delete games, Raph?)
  15. First I want to say Nhl94online.com is amazing! It is so fun to track your teams progress, especially checking out your Roster stats. I noticed something off, though. I have played 4 games with Edmonton. See image or go to: http://www.nhl94online.com/html/roster_stats.php?lg=37&sublg=GENS-B&id=1356 Yet Klima is only showing as having played 3 games? Of course he is my main guy and I have definitely had him on the ice for all 4 games? Also, his TOI/G (Time on Ice per game) is longer than 15 minutes, which is not possible? (Same thing with Kravchuk?) I am afraid that the stats may be wrong in other places, now that I see them wrong here?
  16. It's at #1 now!! KInda foolish how they let you downvote things. Talk about vote tampering.
  17. I like Angry Jay's advice. Here is my own advice to you: 1. Register under a new name, and make your posts with a new identity. "Tru" has too much baggage for some people here. Just seeing a post from "Tru" generates a reaction independent of what you say. 2. Use "tru" account only for your projects, like cartridges and the Ninety Flow stuff. Any opinions or general comments use the new identity 3. Do not *ever* comment on differences between GENs and SNES, especially the merits or differences of each. Avoid these comments with both identities Here is advice to others: 1. If Tru makes a post that annoys you or is irrelevant, ignore it!!! Making a comment or rebuke just clutters up and/or derails threads Regarding this piece of advice, Tru has commented on many of my threads. And sometimes, IMO, he drops the proverbial turd in the punch bowl. But I follow my own advice above and just ignore it, hoping others do too, so things stay on track.
  18. Wow, you got one request and are already on the case? Ok.... I am interested in (in order of priority): Section 5 The Art of Checking Manual Goalie Control Section 4 Creating Breakaway Passes Faceoff Strategy Understanding Your Opponent's Defense
  19. Well there are 3 leagues running atm that I know of: GDL, Classic and VHL. So do searches for the Wait Lists and signup! You may end up being a replacement coach and get in still! Welcome to the community!
  20. Thanks for you response. One comment about: Yes, you mentioned a lot. One specific thing stands out: You say high checking means rating means more CPU hit attemps, and therefore PIMs, but also low checking means more holdinf penalties. At the end of the day, do you think high checking means more PIMs or less? (Regardless of penalty type.) My gut tells me high checking leads to more PIMs. Also, logic tells me that "aggressiveness" would lead to more PIMs, too, since Roughing and "being a little dirty" are in my mind tied to aggressiveness. But was I say, I have read it isn't used for anything? If we can't get good answers in this thread, I will analyze some of the stats and try and make sense of it. (But that is hours of work versus getting replies here, which is much easier but possibly not meaningful?)
  21. Yeah, we need more clips like this. I think I do see patterns, all of which were mentioned above. But I would like to have hundreds of knockouts to analyze to draw real conclusions. I do see: 1. only puck carriers get KOed 2. victims are skating vertically at time of impact (north or south) 3. the checker (usually) are NOT skating vertically at impact One thing I wonder is, does the CPU ever deliver a knockout, or only coach controlled checkers?
  22. Some players take more PIMs than others. Why? What attributes contribute to high PIMs? (I had always thought that Checking and Aggressiveness led to PIMs, but I have read elsewhere that Aggressiveness isn't even used for anything? But I am sure that Checking plays into it, because the more checks the AI takes, the more chances for crosschecking, roughing, etc.)
  23. As always, the facts aren't clear here. Specifically: 1. what was score at time of desync? (This part is clear: 6-1) 2. how much time was left? (mixed messages... 2 min or 3 min?) 3. what was score at end after CPU padding? I don't see this anywhere? Also, you had to play twice, right? Was there any issues or controversy with the other game?
  24. Thanks for the link. I installed the latest version of Logitech's crap software. (The old version of their crap software could not be found.) The device cannot be found in the Control Panel, and when I run the crap Logitech software directly, it says not gaming device can be detected. (Which is strange, because the drivers installed correctly, and the I can use the controller with Gens, it just can't move diagonally.) This is frustrating, but not surprising. But I don't have time to troubleshoot this at the moment. EFFING COMPUTERS!!!!
  25. Two cheapie controllers I had broke in 2 days! So I bought the Logitech 310. Diagnols not working. Where is this "controller properties"? Is it built in to Windows? (I use Win7.) Or is it part of some Logitech Utility software I have to install? (I prefer just installing drivers; hate extra bloatware. But If I need it, so be it.)
