  1. California is in, and you know what that means? 3 time Edge champion @angryjay93 is registered, and ready to extract his pound of flesh from the competition! Tomorrow is the last day to get signed up to be eligible to win that Neal Broten jersey, so let's get signed up today!
  2. Regarding the Retrobit 6 button Gens replacement controllers, I've been ordering them one or two at a time over the past couple of months to bolster our tournament supply. I'm absolutely satisfied with their performance and feel. I wish these were made available years ago. To anyone who goes to tournaments, I'd recommend picking up 2-4 of these bad boys and stock up for life.
  3. Just a friendly reminder, that we have a couple of important dates coming up... December 30th at 7PM we will be holding our SNES Satellite at DMEN Tap in Chicago, IL. Turnout is looking good for that. We'll be streaming over on the Retro Sports Gamer channel that evening, so we hope everyone will tune in! The winner will get free entry to the Modano Feb 29th tournament! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_b9V5HP0eJZyLuhuEmDf_g Secondly, we do have just 4 days remaining should you wish to be eligible to win the signed Neal Broten jersey. Shoot your $40 over to www.paypal.me/trojan1979 via friends and family to get locked in. We'll announce the winner over live stream New Years Eve! Thanks buds!
  4. Also @smozoma : Has won Long Island tournament in 2017... Took 2nd in SNES in Green Bay in 2018... Has been to all of the King of 94 main events, Toronto, Vegas, Vancouver, back to Toronto, as well as Retrothon in Saskatoon, and probably other tournaments outside of Ottawa... I get it, NHL94 tournaments are business trips. I think @angryjay93 and @halifaxmight be the only guys who travel more than you do for NHL94, with @kingraph and @IAmFleury'sHipCheck taking a close 3rd/4th place. If it works for you we'd love to have you back. If not, we'll understand, and continue to appreciate all you do in the community.
  5. How many games are left? I might be able to sub if it's not too many, just to get a legit human to play against. I don't think I'm A level, but at least with Belfour and Roenick I could make it respectable
  6. Virginia is making it's debut appearance in our tournament! It's our first time adding a "commonwealth" to our map, so we're honored!
  7. As a relatively new bud on the scene, I've quickly developed some relationships within this community that I'm very thankful for. This post is meant to thank those buds who have had a meaningful impact in one way or another in 2019. These are not in any particular order, and not everyone involved follows this page. First off is Charlie Bravo. He's never played a game of 94 with us, but he's responsible for the continued creation of Lord Manly's Cup, the best trophy in all of retro sports games. Next on my list is @angryjay93. He is one of only 5 people that have attended every one of our NHL94 tournaments. The others are @Nmufred, The Shield, Moe Man, and Carter F(my son). However, he was the first to travel from afar, and the first notable bud from the community at large. His vote of confidence on how we've been running things encouraged others to attend, and for that I'm eternally grateful. His willingness to keep the streak alive by taking a red eye flight and playing at less than 100% health for the 2nd year in a row shows his incredible dedication to this game. I'd like to take the time to thank "The Ref" Nick Wautier for all his efforts keeping things moving smoothly with our score keeping during the Barry Melrose tournament. We were able to advance things at a much accelerated pace compared to the prior year's tournament. I wish I had a better photo of him somewhere. We were able to do something for someone else this year. The Lion's share of the money we were able to gift to the family of "Michy" Boyd came from Game Trade, one of our sponsors. Seriously, the biggest of thanks to Greg and his team for having an amazing store, and for his considerable generosity. If Angryjay93 was the first big name in the NHL94 community to attend, then we can't leave out 3 time champion @kingraph from the conversation. His contributions on the microphone with Angryjay93, high praise of our events, and just general positive attitude are exactly what this community needs. Thanks for supporting what we do, and for being a positive ambassador for NHL94. I'd like to thank the entire gaggle of players from the great city of Chicago that drove up this year, and added some meat to our SNES brackets. Guys like Charlie R hopped on the mic with me during the SNES finals. @mort1237 was amazing and ran a 2nd stream on the Retro Sports Gamer Channel, @Green Majik and Phil Naumann from DMEN Tap also contributed throughout the day on the mic. Most of you don't know Nelson79 aka Levi L, but he is responsible for getting me connected, and ultimately put on the Game N Culture Show to help promote the event locally, and ultimately got us some local news coverage the day of the event as well. Levi is also responsible for the awesome flyers being made the tournaments. He doesn't ask for anything, and is always willing to help. He's wearing the Griswold jersey below, getting absolutely trucked by the Blues. @LeifErikson, pictured in the Pens jersey, has been absolutely lights out from a support standpoint. Without his help, moving the tournament to Minneapolis wouldn't be happening. The laundry list of logistical tasks he's locking down for us would fill this entire thread. I'll scale it all back by saying that he's amazing, generous, and a vital piece of our success moving forward. He is my sole nomination for "Bud of the Year", sadly the association rejected my nomination. I tried to get my goons on the ice during their line, but alas we're the away team. The Shield has had a tremendous run, and has been to all of our tournaments to date. His generosity to the prize pools of our tournaments has been ongoing, and he's helping us again for 2020. Thank you so much! EA has been an amazing add to our fold, and the Chicago RSG guys. Twice I've been surprised with cartridges signed by the entire tournament, and I'm always greeted with a big bro hug. He even found someone to finally beat me in a game of Mortal Kombat 2 this year! Tom S, aka The Retro Sports Gamer has contributed resources and helped promote my events. He wasn't there personally this year, but his team of players was from Chicago, and so was their streaming presence. While I'm sure I missed somebody, I'm going to thank our friends at the Edge VR Arcade for hosting us for the past two years, and all their support from a promotion standpoint. As their venue has grown, we aren't holding events there due to our size, but we're happy for them as they continue to expand! This was their better side. I guess one final thank you to everyone that attended, watched on stream, left positive feedback, shared our posts on social media this year. 2020 is gonna be great! If I missed anything, cross check me later.
  8. Having new blood infused into a community likes this invigorates it. It's amazing how a childhood activity brings together total strangers from across the globe. When I started running tournaments in general(not 94 specifically), it would have been nice to have mentor. I did receive great advice from @halifax and @angryjay93 when I first poked my head in this community.
  9. We're excited to announce that we've partnered with @rcv from Vancouver. The winners of the SNES and Genesis tournaments they hold in January, will win free entry into this tournament! Check out their event on Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/events/581691342398017/ Also check out their event on these very boards :
  10. I'm happy to announce, with @rcv 's blessing, the winners of both of these tournaments will be awarded free entry into the Modano Mo Problems tournament in Minneapolis on February 29th! @rcv has got the passion and drive it takes to build a successful tournament following in Vancouver. I strongly encourage all that are able to make his tournaments to do so. RCV is now part of an elite few of dedicated tournament organizers, who carry the torch, spreading the light of NHL94 throughout North America.

  16. Confirmed! The Pourhouse Uptown will be hosting us February 29th! 2923 Girard Ave S, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55408. We have made arrangements with Moxy Minneapolis Uptown 1121 West Lake Street, Minneaplis, Minnesota 55408. $79/night special rates, booking procedures to come! The Moxy will also be hosting Exis stations Sponsored by AV For You starting at 4PM Friday night before the tournament! I've been told every room has an electric guitar and AMP! Are you kidding me?
  17. Here's a quick venue update, we've had the tour of the different Pourhouse location, and it is even better suited than the downtown location for our purposes. We are waiting to have their tech guy verify Internet speeds, which should take place later in the week. We've also have a hotel block arrangement ready to fire with special rates. The hotel is in short walking distance to the tournament venue, and we can use their facilities for Exis. These might be some of the coolest looking rooms in existence. Confirmation and details to come soon....
  18. Expected players : Trojan Lil Trojan(Carter F) Mort DPS Green Majik Slapshot Sean The Retro Sports Gamer Nico B + 1 Elhmurst SNES guys- estimate 4 of them, not sure which 4 yet. Check out their site at 94league.wordpress.com. They should probably all have higher world rankings, it's just that know one knew about them until our last Green Bay tournament. Unconfirmed David Trautman + 1 Thoughts and Prayers for @IAmFleury'sHipCheck and @Brutus WWOJO?
  19. I'm creating its own topic for stat tracking and updates so far. We are holding a SNES tournament December 30th at Dmen Tap in Chicago, IL. For those of you familiar with The Retro Sports Gamer crew, this is their typical Monday night retro games throw down location. If you can't make it to the tournament, we'd love to have you tune into the stream on their Youtube Channel. Buy in is $10, winner gets free entry into Modano Mo Problems in Minneapolis February 29th 2020. All funds collected will be added to the prize pool of the Retro Sports League Championship Tournament January 4th, also at Dmen Tap. We are following the same team selection method used in Edge tournaments, which is tier based. "Rules : 5 minute periods, penalties on, no offside, manual goalie. If it's in the game, it's in the game. No game mechanics are banned. Examples are pass shots, CB checks, hail mary shots, goalie interference goals, rebound goals on penalty shots, etc. A coin flip winner will be the home team(player 1) and call the tier for team selection. The opposing player is the away team(player 2) and chooses which team they want based on the tier selected. You may select from within or below the tier specified. Example: Player 1 selects Tier 2. That removes DET, BUF, CHI, VAN, MTL from selection in that matchup. Player 1 chooses CGY, Player 2 selects BOS. Player 1 and Player 2 may not play as the same team. NEW THIS YEAR: You must take a different team in the selected tier each time. You are only permitted to repeat a team selection once you have used the other teams within that tier an equal number of times. (Exception to this rule if player 2 has selected the last remaining team available for player 1 in said tier, another team may be selected that was already used by player 1) This process resets between group play and the playoffs." SNES Tiers: 1 - PIT BOS NYR DET 2 - CHI LA BUF CGY WSH 3 - VAN QUE WPG MTL 4 - NJ PHI STL TOR 5 - EDM NYI DAL HFD 6 - ANA FLA OTT SJ TB We're anticipating between 10-16 players for this tournament. All we ask is that if you plan on coming that you RSVP with me directly via PM or on this thread.
