St. Louis vs Anaheim

The series between the Anaheim Mighty Ducks against the St. Louis Blues have just gotten started in this night for hockey!

In game one, the Blues came out to play, but the Ducks struck first as Chris Kontos made a job shot from his team's goal to the Blues as Ron Hextall mishandled the shot and went in for the score. The Blues did not panic, however, and Rod Brind'Amour struck back for St. Louis to tie the score. Mark Recchi joined in the fun and make a smooth deke to outsmart Hextall and the Ducks are up 2-1. Wayne Gretzky responded with a quick shot after a pass by Brind'Amour to tie up the game and from there it was all for the Blues. Brian Bellows got the goal at the upper right corner of the goal, beating Don Beaupre for the 3-2 score and Brind'Amour blasted a one-timer from the right after a pass from Bellows for the score of 4-2 for the Blues. The defense held off the Ducks and that's the game. Hextall made up for his blunder and ended with a 0.833% on the save percentage for the win.

Game 2 had all kinds of thrills with physical play and even the Great One joined in with a few hits of his own, taking Recchi and Peter Bondra by surprise. The Ducks scored first blood again with a goal by Recchi, but Gretzky responded to tie the game. However, it would seem that Recchi would take the Ducks for a symphony of goals as he gotten 3 more goals for the hat trick and a total of 4 for the night. It looked like it was over for the Blues, but Hextall's heroics on goal and a tough defense by the whole team prevented the massacre and when it all seemed lost, Chelios scored on the power play following a penalty by Paul Stanton and the comeback was on. Bellows penetrated the Ducks' defense for the follow-up goal, but a tripping call on Chelios looked like it would bury the game. Close to the game's last gasps, Brind'Amour got through Anaheim and made a long pass to Gretzky, whose long and blazing one-time blasts through Beaupre for the tying score and the home crowd was eccstatic as they go to overtime! It didn't take too long after the faceoff won by Gretzky as the Ducks still had the one-man advantage, but it wasn't enough as Gretzky beats Beaupre for the hat trick and victory! Recchi had his 4 goals, but the Great One's own hat trick sealed the deal.

With the Blues ahead 2-0 in the series, the Ducks knew it was do or die back in Anaheim. Kontos delivered 2 great goals to start game 3, but just like the last game, the Blues refused to stay down as Gretzky answered for the 2-1 score. Recchi responds with a goal of his own to put the Ducks ahead 3-1, but the Great One answered the call again, with a beautiful goal on a penalty shot and shortly thereafter gains his 2nd hat trick with an assist by Chelios. At the 3rd period Brind'Amour tied the game and the Blues made good of their comeback, holding off every surge by Anaheim while trying to put the game away. It was now the 2nd consecutive overtime and it looked just as fierce as the last period, but Kontos beats Hextall for the winning score. 2-1 for the Blues in the series.

Game 4 was a nailbiter as both teams fought hard. Anaheim struck first when Bondra made a nice goal, but Brind'Amour shot back to tie the game 1-1. With a slow-but-sure game on both sides of the ice, the Ducks got on ahead with scores by Kontos and Recchi and it would appear that they would hold on. Brind'Amour scored nearly at the last gasps of the game but it was too little too late. Anaheim ties the series at 2!
