smozoma
Nashville still has the chance to match. The 14-year thing is interesting -- he has to know that if Nashville matches, he'll be there for 14 years, so this can also be seen as a sign that he would like to stay in Nashville. I would think that with the history of these two GMs this might have been discussed and when Nashville matches you might see a trade down the road between these teams that favors the Flyers. I would think any deal that averages under $9 for Weber any team would take as if he isn't the best defenseman in the league is surely 1A. I wish the Hawks would have done this... PRoBob38
I'm in agreement that this is more about forcing Nashville to give him the long-term deal than anything. 14 years is a little crazy, but the annual salary's pretty reasonable. Preds have to match, they'd be insane not to. Edited July 19, 2012 by PRoBob38
xdeathsbloodx
The problem for the Preds in matching isn't the AAV of the deal, it's the fact that the Flyers have offered him $27M in the first year of the deal. $27M is more than 15% of what the entire Nashville organization is valued at. So it's a question of do the Preds have that kind of money to give to 1 person, and I'm not sure they do.
halifax
"The Predators have until next Wednesday to match the monstrous deal or accept four first-round draft picks" Darren Dreger 4 first round picks for one player? That's never been done before.

halifax
Sorry bud, but Chris Gratton got signed to an offer sheet by Philly in 1997 and gave Tampa 4 picks. wow....good find bud..... "In 1997, the Philadelphia Flyers signed Tampa Bay Lightning center Chris Gratton to a five-year, $16.5 million contract that the Lightning refused to match, As a result, Tampa Bay was awarded the Flyers' first-round picks in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Those picks subsequently were dealt back to the Flyers in exchange for forward Mikael Renberg and defenseman Karl Dykhuis." This was a double fail. giving up four first rounds for chris gratton....and that tampa traded them back for renberg and dykhuis.

PRoBob38
Just waiting for the news to break that the Predators announced ticket prices for next season will be increased by 300%.
smozoma
I know one team that will be very interested in another salary roll-back (although, I think signing bonuses are exempt?)
