NYI80-83
Wondering if anyone can help here. Is it possible to edit NHL'93 so that a player injured in a fight is only out for the remaining of the period, not the rest of the game? 77
or make the instagator, the actual guy fighting 2, 5, and a 10 =) Edited April 20, 2015 by
smozoma
Are there other injuries in the game, that allow you to injure a guy for only a period? (like in '94 if you check a guy and hurt him, 90% of the time he's only out for the period). If so, it should be relatively easy to just change the type of injury incurred from fighting from Game to Period -- but if there is no such thing as a Period injury in the game, then it's not really do-able. DominikJagr
Try this. In Hex Editor at 14DC4 overwrite BF 0B 02 00 70 with BF 0C 05 00 61, if it wont work, overwrite BF 0B 02 00 70 13 72 with BF 0C 05 00 61 00 01. If it wont work, then I have no idea. If it works, rewrite "the game" at 14D8F with "period ". For NHL '94 try this. At 1878A overwrite BF 0C 05 00 61 with BF 0C 05 00 60, then BF 0C 05 00 61 00 03 with BF 0C 05 00 60 00 00, then BF 0C 05 00 61 00 03 36 with BF 0C 05 00 60 00 00 28, then BF 0C 05 00 61 00 03 36 61 00 94 10 08 38 with BF 0C 05 00 60 00 00 28 61 00 94 28 00 22 and finally BF 0C 05 00 61 00 03 36 61 00 94 10 08 38 00 00 B7 with BF 0C 05 00 60 00 00 28 61 00 94 28 00 22 BF 0C 04. At 18786 edit "game" to "per." or at 187A9 "the game" to "period ". For SNES NHL '94 try following: At E7973 overwrite BF 0C 05 05 with BF 0C 05 10 or BF 0C 05 05 00 BF 04 0C with BF 0C 05 10 00 BF 14 06. At E796B edit "the game" to "period ". trudatman
did you test any of those?
DominikJagr
No, sorry, I am too busy. Just checked roms in hex editor yesterday and got this idea. I will test the SNES version tonight, maybe Genesis '94 version as well.
DominikJagr
Tested the SNES version (I also edited some other values not mentioned in my post) with no luck. I plan to test Genesis '94 next. Sorry NYI80-83 for spamming your thread with SNES and 94 hacking stuff, I believe figuring out how to change injury duration in other versions would make it possible in NHLPA too. I started with the version that seems easiest to hack.

NYI80-83
Thanks will give this a try!. Thank you for the idea DominikJagr. But both code change possibilities in NHL'93 for Genesis made the game freeze after a goal with "illegal instruction". Maybe the code for the fighting and injury results is at a different location? Yes in NHL'93 when someone is injured on a body check they are always out for just the period - so yes I believe it would be easy; but don't know how to locate it. If I find the text "____ is injured for the game" in hex editor would that be in the same area as the code that determines length of injury - or not necessarily? From your testing it doesn't seem to be the code we are looking for, injuries for game/period are located somewhere else I am sure. You can try this way. Not easy but for the injury duration maybe not that difficult.
