Memory Save/Other SEGA Games

Hey guys!

I met a few NHL '94 people at the Long Island Retro Gaming Expo a week-and-a-half ago or so, and I was talking to them about my situation. I got a SEGA about 2 months ago with NHL '94, NHL '97 and NHL '98, and while trying to do a season NONE of these games save. One of the guys was telling me about something like a super cartridge that would have all the games for SEGA and be able to save. Is that a thing?

Also, for TECMO Super Bowl for NES, the Tecmo Bowlers every year release an updated version of Tecmo with updated rules (2pt conversions, new teams, updated rosters, etc.) is there an NHL version of that?

Thanks for your help!

It is called Mega Everdrive. You can load a buttload of Gens Roms onto one cartridge and save things, etc.

I got one off one of these sites:

https://krikzz.com/store/

I ended up NOT using it after buying a large, ALL-in-One PC which I use to just play emulators head to head with friends.

IF someone is interested in buying it, I think I paid $100 plus shipping. Contact me. Mine's brand new & unused, and I'd take a discounted price. PM me.

Yep!

This is the cheaper Everdrive: https://krikzz.com/store/home/34-everdrive-md-v3.html

However, in order to have one that enables save states, you'll have to opt for the more expensive version here:

https://krikzz.com/store/home/33-mega-everdrive-v2.html

Either way, you can load every single Genesis ROM into an SD card (purchased separately) and that's what the Everdrive uses.

For updated ROMs, take a look at this list here: http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php/topic/15534-master-list-of-gens-94-roms/

And there may be some more recent '16 versions that I haven't yet listed there from Skip, you should scan this thread: http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php/forum/171-genesis-roms/

Thanks Raph.

I have the cheaper one, that you can load ROMS onto it, but I don't think it enables savestates then as Raph pointed out. If anyone is interested in buying it, let me know.

The cartridges each have a battery in them, and if the battery dies, the saves stop working. You can replace the batteries (although it's not trivial to do):

I've done the battery change. Soldering is way too hard. I just duck taped it in there. As long as you treat the game nice and don't toss it around the save stays. You do need to get one of those security bits.

I've been flirting with getting one of those megadrives. Does the game play exactly the same or is it a little faster/slower?

Honestly, I think I'd do the same.

Sorry bud! I forgot to email you about this. Glad you posted on the forums.

I have the SNES and NES ones, they are awesome. Games run perfectly on them, no issues whatsoever. I got the NES from Krizz's website (Raph posted a link), he's the one that makes them. He's in the Ukraine, but it only took a week to get it. There are some US vendors (you can find them on his website). The SNES one I got from StoneAgeGamer.com, but it was on backorder for a while. I would suggest ordering it from the source, if you can wait the week for it.

Then find a torrent online that has all the ROMs and plop them on an SD Card. I would suggest ordering them in folders alphabetically (A, B, C, etc), it helps load the file manager faster. From there, you just pop the SD card into the cartridge, the cart into the Genesis, start it up, the file manager will pop up, and you choose the game and it loads almost instantly. It will keep the game save in the onboard memory, until you choose a new game to play, then it copies it onto the SD card.

If you have any battery saves from emulator play, you can actually copy them to the SD card and use them (with a little bit of hex editing, it's pretty simple just padding the end of the file with FF, at least on SNES and NES).

The games play exactly the same. You are using the original hardware, so there is no emulation. The Everdrive just mimics an actual cart.
