F16 - GENS B TexasPachyderm takes over DAL

Guys, it's a 20+ yr old game. It's a site that's been running for over 10 years now.

The odds of having enough NEW guys to do a C league is very low.

The odds of having enough NEW guys that don't have 30% straight drop because it's not easy to play GENS emulator online compared to other online games is very low. Early drop on ALL new players is high and always has been. Guys like signing up and going through that, but when they start to have to plug into their modem, it requires a lot of control over that space/computer/internet. When you start to have to log in and find games at times you don't always log in, the reality starts to hit guys that, maybe they no longer want to play this game that much.

SO, please stop pretending the reason we DON'T have a C league is because Raph wanted to shove them into B. You don't have a C league because you don't have enough C players.

You barely have enough guys to do a B league without having borderline A guys dropped into it.

We may need a dedicated thread for ideas on how to keep new players playing. It's more important now as the audience gets older. They have more commitments with work and family. The game is ~23 years old, so the audience is ~33+ years old now, not 25-30. Need to make it easy to get hooked for people with little free time.

Edit: There'sa game called "World of Tanks" which is popular with older people, and part of their strategy is to make the game friendly for "the daddies" who come home from work and want to fire up the game and they can play a game immediately and it's just 15 minutes for a game. We have the 15 minute thing. We need to work on the immediacy.

Brutus, what you and Raph do is very much appreciated. And Chaos and smozoma. Without you guys we have nothing.

But!.....

As a (relative) newcomer, there does seem to be some "insitutional thinking" that goes on here. The "powers-that-be" and the lifers here are not always receptive to trying new things. (Look at AIM for a good example.) And when they do, they are small, baby steps.

This may be because lifers have seen it all before and know better.

But..... it is possible that the lifers are wrong, too. :)

Why not try the C tier? What is the harm? If we have 5 new guys, I say put a C tier in. If less than 5, yes, add them to B, but lets make a note somewhere about who is truly new, and who is returning.

Agree 100%. New thread with all ideas at improving retention.

Edit: There is now, see 2 posts below...

I count actually around 6 actives players who have the C level... not easy to form a league. Or why not something like the Original 6. Anyway there are a multiple reasons who can explain why people quit.

But, I maintain that a part of them are leaving because they don't have pleasure to play, and because the level of play is too high for rookies.

Maybe one way to content everybody, is to offer the possibility for coaches that are not qualified in the B playoffs to compete in a C playoffs. So C players can have enough motivation to finish the season in the B group and then play in the C playoffs.
