Hotel Prices Near Ko94 II

EDIT: Check out page 2 of this thread, 3 messages down, where Halifax posts a link with the Downtown Grand deal!  It is cheaper now than all of the hotels on this list!

Here are current hotel prices on June 19, 2017.  These hotels are close to the Downtown Grand, which is a bit pricey.  This is according to Hotels.com, for Fri and Sat Sept 29 and 30, as of today.  Rates based on Free Cancellation being available (costs more).

Note: Though they change like the stock market, at this point, most prices have gone up since early Feb:

#            Name                                                                            Price (compared to Feb)
072        Downtown Grand, an Ascend Collection Hotel       $ 145 (cheaper)
137        Oasis at Gold Spike                                                     $  95 (cheaper)
104        Fremont Hotel and Casino                                         $  140 (more)
085        Golden Nugget Hotel                                                   $   149 (more)
110        Four Queens Hotel and Casino                                  $  134 (more)
091        The D Casino Hotel Las Vegas                                    $  130 (more)
106        El Cortez Cabana Suites                                              $  105 (more)
098        California Hotel & Casino                                           $  140 (way more)
056        Main Street Station Hotel & Casino                           $  140 (way more)
109        Plaza Hotel & Casino                                                   $  117 (more)
130        Golden Gate Hotel and Casino                                    $  105 (new)

The # is the Rank out of 264 Hotels in the area (according to Trip Advisor).
The $ is USD, and amounts to nightly rate (though Fri and Sat may be different, this is average)

As the event approaches I will update this first post, and save the old prices below.

Yeah, pretty much that's what Halifax said (see quote below).  However, "discount of 50% to 60%" can be a bit misleading.  It's probably off off rack rates, and the deal that Aqua pulled off of hotels.com is probably already discounted from the hotel rack.

Hi Guys!

First, the topic heading is not a typo. We were asked by the casino to change the date as there is a big event happening in Las Vegas during the weekend of the 23rd. The result of this means that hotel rooms will see a discount of 50% to 60% for us on Sept.29 and Sept.30th. This discount was significant enough for us to agree to make the change and save you guys money. We certainly apologize for any one that this may impact negatively.

The tournament will take place at the Downtown Grand.

The Casino Quoted us

29th - $109
30th - $119

The 23rd was $279

THIS IS NOT SET IN STONE YET

If those prices get set in stone, it is probably worth it!  That works out to $115/nt, which makes it competitive with most of the other places I quoted.  Of course staying with the majority of other NHL 94 fans would make it more than worth it.

I am a little interested in the Fremont, which is very close by.  And what might be even better -- based on Tripadvisor ratings and reviews, anyway -- is the Main Street Station Hotel & Casino. It is a 6 min walk from the Downtown Grand (0.3 miles) and is currently $83/nt.  It is the only hotel in the list above that is ranked higher than the host hotel.

It often gets cheaper closer to the dates. Honestly most hotels there are fine

I think a good strategy is too book early through hotels.com or expedia.com etc., but make sure there is a full refund when you book.  Then you have peace of mind, and if something better comes up, you can just cancel.

No. If you book trough those it's way harder to get changes for your room or other shit. Really annoying

Yeah, nothing wrong with booking early as long as there is a full refund.  I think these prices will come down some though.  I recently stayed at the golden nugget for $50 a night and September is a very slow month for Vegas.

Downtown grand is $69 per night for super bowl weekend.  I did notice there is a $25 resort fee in addition.

That link didn't work for me... could be cuz I am in Canada.

The "resort fees" are interesting, and a real scam.  I saw that some of the hotels in that area ("downtown Las Vegas") did not have resort fees, so I figured none of them did?  It is good to know some do, because that obviously affects the bottom line. (These sites should show absolute, bottom line prices, sheesh!)...

Southwest Airlines tickets just went on sale for September(unfortunately not October though so can't buy return flight yet).  I didn't see any good prices from NY or Denver, but I did see a $68 one way from Chicago (however there is a layover in Omaha).

The Downtown Grand for September 29,30 has come down to $147/night.

I'm just checking on one thing to make sure this doesn't overlap with my vacation at that time but when do you think our discounted rates will be locked in for the Downtown Grand?  I'd like to book those as soon as possible.  Thanks for coordinating, guys!

I could not get a price for Oasis, but will update when I do. (It was giving me $999, which is not right.)

Perhaps there will be some sort of package deal for the Downtown Grand if you are a tourney participant, that will lower the price? Maybe?

The best hotel prices in my experience are usually the week of the date you're looking for, when they are just trying to fill their remaining rooms. The "cheap room" websites are often very useful a few days before the date.

Can you give some examples of "cheap room" websites?  (You mean like Priceline or Hotwire?)

Yeah, I think you are right, and J&J said they will be cheap in September, as well.  My idea is, book early, then cancel when (and if) you find something better.

If you search Expedia for the weekend of April 14th you'll find prices for the Downtown Grand are only $74 per night.

There are no holidays or big conventions for the weekend of September 29th so I assume we'll eventually see similar prices.

Ok, I updated this list again.  Keep in mind there is a special being organized by Mikey to stay at the Grand, so that is probably the place to stay.

That aside, back in February there were 3 hotels in the $80 range, now there are zero.

People have said that as the event draws closer, the real deals will kick in!  I hope that is the case.  As it stands, I already booked my backup for $81 back in February...

You know, I plan on staying at a place that has no resort fee.  Resort fees are a total scam.  I have indicated in the original post the No Resort Fees with a  to make it easy to see...

There are 4 in the area:

Fremont Hotel and Casino
Four Queens Hotel and Casino
California Hotel & Casino
Main Street Station Hotel & Casino

Of course, ideally The Grand will waive the fee... not sure if the special rate ever came through?  Their Resort Fee is $23.   (Why on earth does hotels.com and similar sites not include this fee in the final rates that they show?)

Thanks for posting those deals, J&J.  Yeah, the prices I am indicating are from hotels.com and I check the "Free Cancellation" box... IMO it is too risky and restrictive to book without being able to cancel. (You will be kicking yourself if you get locked in, and then the week of the event see rooms at the same spot for $30 or something similar! Or if there is a medical or family emergency and you end up paying (even partially) for something you don't use.)
