metzgerism
Most of this is now outdated - I've produced a second ROM that I consider to be a better balance, and a little more fun. After several hours in NOSE and Hex, I've got a workable beta version of my Super NHL '94 ROM for Genesis. The following changes are the most important: Player Stats Each team is even-strength. All skaters and goalies have ratings of 86 in NOSE. There are THREE classes of forward and THREE classes of defensemen - Skinny, Medium, and Heavy (like in NES Ice Hockey). Each skater has it's own interesting attributes - see below for rosters. 12 forwards per team (4 skinny, 4 medium, 4 heavy - 2 of each right- and left-handed) 6 defensemen per team (2 skinny, 2 medium, 2 heavy - 1 of each right- and left-handed) 2 goalies per team (1 righty, 1 lefty). All skaters lack true names - there is no Lemieux, Gretzky, or Thornton (some appeal is lost, I know). Lines have been altered to say 1st, 2nd, and 3rd - not Sc1, Sc2, and Chk. TEAM ROSTERS All skaters have ratings of 5 in stick-handling, endurance, roughness, and aggression. Skinny Forward (#'s 01, 02, 03, 04) Weight/Checking: 2/3 Speed/Agility: 5/4 Off/Def Awareness: 5/3 Shot Power/Accuracy: 4/4 Pass Accuracy: 4 Medium Forward (#'s 11, 12, 13, 14) Weight/Checking: 5/4 Speed/Agility: 4/5 Off/Def Awareness: 4/3 Shot Power/Accuracy: 4/5 Pass Accuracy: 4 Heavy Forward (#'s 21, 22, 23, 24) Weight/Checking: 8/5 Speed/Agility: 4/4 Off/Def Awareness: 4/4 Shot Power/Accuracy: 5/3 Pass Accuracy: 5 Skinny Defenseman (#'s 41, 42) Weight/Checking: 4/4 Speed/Agility: 4/4 Off/Def Awareness: 4/4 Shot Power/Accuracy: 4/5 Pass Accuracy: 4 Medium Defenseman (#'s 51, 52) Weight/Checking: 7/5 Speed/Agility: 3/4 Off/Def Awareness: 4/5 Shot Power/Accuracy: 3/5 Pass Accuracy: 4 Heavy Defenseman (#'s 61, 62) Weight/Checking: 10/6 Speed/Agility: 3/5 Off/Def Awareness: 3/5 Shot Power/Accuracy: 5/3 Pass Accuracy: 5 Goalies (#'s 30, 35) Weight: 6 All other stats: 5 Game Changes This game has smomoza's weight-bug fix included (the first one, for now). CLOCKS: All times are listed based on their "real-time" length. "Period Length" has been changed to "Game Length" in the main menu. Regulation can last a total of 3, 5, 7, or 9 minutes (instead of 6, 12, or 24). Overtime is 1 minute (instead of 2 or 4). Penalty shots are 6 seconds (instead of 10). Penalties are 0 minutes, and are effectively gone from the game. Delayed penalties and penalty shots remain when penalties are set to On. The entire main menu interface has different wording, as well as all pause menus and much of Ron Barr's text. SuperNHL94beta8.bin To-Do List (things I want but don't yet know how to do) Turn all home, away, PP, and PK advantages and disadvantages off/change to zero. Change all team overall ratings to 94. Change the active player star to a small circle (TileMolester work), and maybe add more puck girth and shadow. WHAT I WOULD LIKE FROM YOU: Download, play me online or play others, and tell me what you think. Too little choice in skaters? Too much choice? Too fast, too slow, what have you, let me know. I have played it a little but it really isn't done justice without live games, which is why I'm posting the rom. Toodles!

metzgerism
I'm creating a slower beta that I believe works a little better. There are only two types of defensemen in this one, and there are only 6 forwards and 4 defensemen on your team (so that picking an choosing is a little easier, and you really can't have a team of all of one type). Small Forward (#10, #11) Weight/Checking: 4/3 Speed/Agility: 4/5 Off/Def Aware: 4/2 Shot Pow/Acc: 4/4 Pass Accuracy: 4 Medium Forward (#14, #15) Weight/Checking: 7/4 Speed/Agility: 3/4 Off/Def Aware: 4/3 Shot Pow/Acc: 4/5 Pass Accuracy: 4 Large Forward (#18, #19) Weight/Checking: 10/5 Speed/Agility: 2/3 Off/Def Aware: 5/4 Shot Pow/Acc: 5/3 Pass Accuracy: 4 Light Defenseman (#20, #21) Weight/Checking: 6/4 Speed/Agility: 4/3 Off/Def Aware: 3/4 Shot Pow/Acc: 4/4 Pass Accuracy: 5 Heavy Defenseman (#28, #29) Weight/Checking: 11/5 Speed/Agility: 3/2 Off/Def Aware: 3/5 Shot Pow/Acc: 3/5 Pass Accuracy:
