Since wboy's hexaddicts website is down, you can get NOSE here.
This is the stable 1.2b version. Alternatively, you can try the latest test/beta version.

This download has 3 additional edits not in the original NOSE 1.2b:

 It supports wboy's NHLPA '93 30-team ROM

It supports my 0-15 player ratings hack

 It supports my different-era-player-weights hack

Make sure to read the installation instructions below, because you need to download some additional support files (because NOSE doesn't use an installer).

How To Install

1. Download the NOSE package (zip format):
nose1.2b-2019nov.zip
OLD: nose1.2b-2012apr.zip

2. Unzip the package and put the resulting folder wherever you want. (https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZQOYqzGHiDY should be very similar on Vista or XP)

3. Download and install this:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vb6extendedruntime/files/ - "Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime Plus 2.2.zip"

	<s>Old instructions:
Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp6.exe)</s>
<s>When you install it, it will ask for a directory to unpack to. The location does not matter. It'll unpack to the directory then install. Then you can delete the unpack directory and installer file.</s>

4. Download, unzip, and install the files inside this zip: libraryfiles.zip

Run libraryFiles.exe and it should install the files to:

 If on Wndows 64-bit, C:\windows\sysWOW64

 If on Windows 32-bit, C:\windows\system32

I think NOSE should work at this point. If not, reply here and I'll try to figure out what's wrong and update these instructions.

Notes:
There are two unfortunate short-comings of NOSE (fixed in the latest test version).
1: You can't associate files with it so you can't just double-click a file to have it open in NOSE, and
2: It doesn't remember where you ROMs are, it assumes they are stored in the 'roms' folder within NOSE's folder. So you can put your ROMs there if you want, since Gens and Kega will remember the location once you open a ROM manually from there.

This thread is for new test versions of NOSE, with new features.

Let me know if you have any problems with it (did I break anything??)

The installation instructions are the same as for the 'official' NOSE, see here. If you have previously done the steps 3 and 4 from there, you don't need to do them again.

	v1.2c - 2020-Sep-26

	New features:

NOSE remembers the directory where you last opened/saved a ROM

You can associate NOSE with .bin ROM files in windows so they can be opened by double-clicking (instructions)

IMPORTANT: follow the installation instructions from the older NOSE thread

	Future Features?

NOSE keeps a list of your 10 most recently-opened ROMs in the File menu.

Applying simple mods/hacks like the weight bug fix.

Super Nintendo ROM support (this will be a slow, progressive feature. First version will probably simply open a SNES ROM and display teams and players but not allow editing. 2nd version might allow changing team/player names but not the number of players. 3rd ... more improvements each time.)

When you are using NOSE to edit rosters, please make sure you update the number of F and D on the team. This can be done by hitting the "Apply" button on the menubar. If you do not do this, the game will think there are 15 defensemen (F in hex) available. I'm not sure how this will affect gameplay (it probably won't), but please do this step, especially if you want to use the offline stat extractor program (to be released soon!)

Hey all, I've been doing lots of behind the scenes work on my Dream League ROM, and while I was doing that I finally found a way to run NOSE on a Mac!!

First, you're going to have to download NOSE from the link here.

	https://forum.nhl94.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=4289

Next, download the library files that are required for NOSE here.

	https://forum.nhl94.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=5245

Extract both of these packages to your desktop.

Now, since you're on a Mac, trying to run .exe files is pointless. This is where WineBottler comes in. Head to https://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ and click the second button (the stable build) to install it. This is 100% safe and will not harm your computer.

You should now have the WineBottler Combo .dmg file. Open it up and drag Wine and WineBottler to your Applications folder. Here's where the magic happens...

Right click the libraryfiles.exe file and scroll to open with, then click Wine. You should see a dialog box. Check the box that says "run directly in ____" and hit Go.

Once the installer opens up, click through it. It will tell you it is installing to windows\system32, which is perfect. It is installing these files into an emulated windows system that Wine uses to run .exe files. You're basically done!

All that's left to do is right click NOSE.exe and navigate to Open With -> Wine. NOSE should start up just as it would on Windows!! Happy editing!

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've successfully used the NOSE editor and some other tools in the past to make minor changes to my ROMs. Now I'm currently experimenting for the first time with using NOSE to 'trade' players and create a draft league of sorts. I'm doing this with an NHL '95 ROM for now.

I started by simply copying players from one instance of NOSE to another and replacing four players on one particular team. I then copied the players I was replacing onto the rosters of the teams from which I copied the original three players.

Two teams did not have enough bytes to paste and replace a player, so I deleted a player from each one before overwriting another. I got all the players in place, updated the lines, and then saved my ROM.

In running a test season, however, most of the players who were added to the teams compiled hardly any stats, even though they were on SC1, PP1, and, in some cases, on PK1.

So, for example, Sergei Fedorov is on the Toronto roster along Yuri Khmylev and Andrei Kovalenko. They are all on SC1 and PP1. Igor Larionov was also added to Toronto and is the center for SC2 and PP2. Strangely, Federov had fewer than 10 goals and 10 assists in three different test seasons. Khmylev and Kovalenko likewise have largely non-existent stats. Yet Larionov puts up incredible numbers, scoring over 130 points and leading the entire league in scoring. He appears to be getting way too much time at center, while Federov is getting almost none.

Player usage for some of the players who were swapped to other teams is also a bit off even though the lines are all set correctly with the new players. Interestingly, though, the results are as expected with Doug Gilmour, who was copied onto the Detroit roster and is the center for SC2 and PP2 to replace Fedorov. He is getting all the playing time and stats you would expect. And so is Mike Eastwood, who was swapped with Khmylev on the Buffalo roster.

Does anyone have any idea why these problems would occur? Is there a way to create a draft league ROM and copy all players into place and then have the ROM simulate games and produce accurate results? I would appreciate any help people can provide.

Been playin around with nose to edit the blitz 08 teams into the 07 rom.

Have found with 2 teams that when i try to paste one player over another it gives me a message saying that there are "insufficient bytes to paste the selected player data" or something like that.

The only way i can do it is to delete a player from the roster, so the team effectively ends up with 1 player less.

Anyone with more knowledge than me have any ideas?

If I have already edited the s**t out of NHL94 (hours and hours of updating guys for the 1993-94 season), can I download NOSE without losing my edits? I feel the answer is no but wanted to ask the pros!

Thanks!

****A look at my rosters...all starters for all teams with new overall rating. Also made most guys on the team they started 1993-94 with or played the most games with that year. Glad to share the hex with anyone who would like it, you all have given me so much info!

I've been making a current Red Wings Roster with NOSE, and while doing the lines I noticed a line combo titled "NLC". What is this combo for?

In game you can choose from SC1, SC2, and CHK (unless in penalty situations), so I'm wondering about this NLC one.
