  1. Hey Guys, Fall Out Games in Arizona has posted a picture online of their new HDMI consoles. This could be a Game Changer. For future tourneys if these turn out to work and are cheap. As we all know collecting and storing CRT’s is a big issue and most new esports spaces are all HD. I’m getting a Gens shipped up to me ASAP for testing. I’m pretty excited. Fall Out Games has been helping me out with the Doc from the very beginning. Their manager Scott D. Has been a huge help in making the doc and providing me with games and consoles for the King of 94 Tournaments. Kof94 1 would have not happened with out Scott’s last minute help getting me all the original hardware (7 gens and 7 snes) Air freighted from AZ to Toronto just in time for game day. They have made affordable NES and SNES consoles in the past but not in HD. I begged them to make an HD Gens last time i was in Phoenix, have my prayers been answered????? What’s your guys thoughts on going HD? EDIT: I JUST GOT WORD THAT THE GENS WILL RETAIL FOR $30!!!!

  4. In the Green Bay tournament, @Edge of 94' WI had some of the SNES models and the controllers were actually decent. Not sure how long they would last, but they played well enough. Having said that I'm not picky with SNES, but I'm pretty picky with Genesis controllers. Not just using the 6-buttons that I prefer, but also making sure the d-pad feels right.

  7. I apologize for being tardy with my report here as I really wanted to post something much earlier. Unfortunately, my food poisoning has really taken a toll on me and I’m still dealing with some lingering effects. I’ve lost nearly 10 pounds since that day but I feel I’m finally ready to make my long overdue post. first I just want to thank everyone who showed up and contributed to the events on friday and Saturday. Regardless of the game, I love meeting and playing new people. The more people we have who are passionate about retro gaming, the greater these events become. It was indeed awesome to see the Green Bay event grow like it did not only with more local support but also more out of town players. I know that from day 1 when Troy did everything in his power to get me to show up for the first tournament, that this was the next step he wanted to take to grow the event. I’m really happy for Troy and everyone who contributed to the event, he’s put in a lot of hard work and to see the community come out to support him is simply awesome. i quickly want to touch on the Tecmo tournament on Friday as that was a great time. I spent some time learning about Tecmo by watching the retro sports gamers YouTube channel where he did team and playbook breakdowns with another player named Mort. These videos were extremely informative and entertaining to boot. If you havent checked out the retro sports gamers YouTube content you need to do yourself a favor and go check it out. It’s tailor maid for our crowd and I can’t recommend it enough. back to the tourney, I knew I wasn’t going to win because I simply didn’t have the experience but I at least wanted to put a scare in someone and of course have fun. In short, the bounces were going my way that night and I was able to use that good fortune to beat a couple of legitimate Tecmo players. they are probably guys I’d beat 1 out of 10 times but I managed to sneak into the semifinals to play the shield who is another seasoned player. I had met him earlier in the Swiss bracket and he handed me my only loss in convincing fashion. He again handed me another convincing loss to eliminate me but I want to do more then just commend his skill in Tecmo. While he was laying the smack down, he was also giving me tips on how to improve my Tecmo game which I immediately put to use. He gave me some great stuff to work with and I hope to use it in future events because I do want to keep putting some time into the game. Something tells me that with enough dedication I can get to a competent level. Thanks to guys like the shield, Troy, mort, and Tom they have motivated me to get better at Tecmo. I hope as nhl94 players we can do the same to others who may not have the experience but show interest. moving onto Saturday I felt good in the morning after a good night sleep. That feeling was quickly ruined unknowingly by my breakfast. There weren’t a lot of food options I was willing to eat around the location of the hotel and the event. I had a lot of snacks for later in the day but no breakfast items and thus I ate the hotel breakfast. As I mentioned, that was the beginning of my downfall but I’ll dive into that later. the first tourney of the day was snes, but before that Troy and the organist produced riveting renditions of the Canadian and American national anthems to get our blood pumping. My group consisted of myself and the trio from the retro sports gamer YouTube channel. I had a blast with these guys, they are good ol boys who love sports and sports video games just like I do. I was able to jump on the stream to do some commentary and Tom did his best work to carry me along. In return I tried to give them some pointers about the game when I could. If they ever want to have me over for some Tecmo games, I’d be more than happy to oblige and subject myself to some ass kickings. They are good sports, a ton of fun to be round and their stream caught some great action throughout the day. Once in the elimination part of the tourney I worked my way into the quarters without a hitch where I’d square off with smozoma. Looking back on the day, I could feel myself deteriorate right after group play concluded. My stomach was starting to get torn apart but it just felt like I was hungry so I ate some snacks and figured I’d be fine. By the time the quarters rolled around the pain hadn’t gone away. If anything it was just more intense but I didn’t want to think about it as I had a serious matchup with smozoma. I knew he would be my first real test and he didn’t disappoint as he won game one. I came back strong in game 2 and was now faced with a critical game 3. Smozoma carried a lead in the dying seconds of game three but I somehow managed to score and tie the game with only 1 second left in the third. Smozoma was on point throughout the set, composed himself and won the game early in overtime on a delayed penalty. I was extremely disappointed with that result but it was the one I deserved. Smozoma was clicking and there weren’t many things for me to take advantage of. I didn’t create my own luck out there and paid the price for it. in my head I attempted to spin this into a positive because my pain was continuing to intensify. I kept telling myself I was just really hungry so I ate more snacks and actually broke down for a McDonald’s run since I had the time to burn before the gens tournament. I bought some fries and Powerade convincing myself this was what I needed to feel better. I also didn’t have much choice because there weren’t many quick food options around. after Raph won snes we quickly transitioned into the gems tourney which had a modified group format. I was greatly thankful for this modification as it meant two less group games. I already knew my McDonald’s run was in vain because now not only was I suffering from the severe stomach pain but I was also getting the chills/sweats and general body soreness. In between group games I was running back to the hotel room because I simply needed to monopolize a bathroom and it would have been rude to use the one bathroom on site that I was sharing with 40 other people. I managed to make it through the group stage as the #1 seed and I used the time from the first round bye to lock myself in the hotel bathroom. I knew my situation was dire at this point as it simply hurt like hell to stand up. I tried my best to keep everything under wraps because I didn’t want to negatively affect the tourney but at this point I had to let one person know my situation because my absences were becoming longer and longer. It also wouldn’t have been acceptable to just vanish at this point. i dragged myself out of the hotel room for knockout play and faced off against EA in my first matchup. We played two closely fought games but I was able to pull through somehow. Ea and I go way back, those games always mean a lot to both of us and I think he steps his game up every time we face off. He’s one of the best I ever played and he deserved a lot better fate than being knocked out in the round of 16. next up I played jer33 who is a class act of a guy. You won’t meet a much nicer person but I know he was licking his chops to try and knock me off. As the series went on my pain started to move towards the intolerable level but I did my best to ignore it. I tried to talk a bit with him durIng the game but I was starting to talk unintelligibly and probably only sounded like a moron. I think both games were close for the most part with me pulling away a bit at the end and I took the series in two. Instead of waiting around for my semifinal matchup I ran off to the hotel. In the parking lot en route to the hotel I nearly lost it as I started dry heaving. At this point I knew my chances of coming back were slim but I decidedly to head to the hotel anyway. The pain was no longer tolerable at this point, standing was not an option and I was chained to the bathroom. Things were so bad that at some point I texted Troy to let him know I wasn’t coming back. Shortly after that there was a breakthrough as I did my best Glenn Hall pregame impression. I felt better after this but had no clue how long that feeling would last. I decided to run with it as I didn’t come all the way to Green Bay to lose. I called Troy and asked him if it was too late for me to comeback. He told me to just come down and so there I went as fast as I could (which wasn’t fast at all) back to the tourney. I faced off against smozoma in the semis and I sure as he’ll wasn’t going to let him oust me again regardless of how I felt. I got my revenge in two games, including a 4-0 victory with my local San Jose Sharks. then came the finals and I’ll be completely honest, I felt like trash and just wanted to lock myself in a bathroom. EA being privy to my situation acted like the cut man in my corner and provided a couple Advil for me which if nothing else served as placebo. Despite how i felt, I wanted to win more than anything else and I wasn’t going to let Raph off easy. I honestly don’t remember much, the games were so fast paced and full and of goals that I doubt I could recollect much under normal circumstances. In the end I got beat by Raph who played his ass off. I gave him everything I had and there are no excuses to give. I lost, Raph won, and I’d like to think I made him earn that one in three games. He came ready to play and proved why he’s the best. In the words of teddy kgb, “he beat me...straight up...pay him...pay that man his money!” i just want to apologize for not being around for the trophy presentation because I wanted to be there to support Raph and the tournament but I had to run off after the final whistle. When the time ran out on our final game, the time ran out on everything inside of me and I had a post game performance that would have made Glenn Hall cringe. I’m also sad I wasn’t in the final picture the group took after the trophy presentation. I really wanted to be a part of that and wish it could have waited. Then again I did run off without explanation. all that said, I had a great time and enjoyed seeing everyone again. Thank you to Troy, edge vr, Arda Ocal, the organist among others. Also congrats to kingRaph on completing the Green Bay sweep. Hope to see everyone again next time.
