  1. Not techinally true .... I actually don't have a modchip installed, but admittedly I do make use of the memory card exploit. Good work on the pics. Thanks for that. Yeah I did think about having to use an ISO extract tool after I posted originally, but I gathered from your other posts you knew what you where doing! Infact, the day I add SegaCD compatibility to the editor (it will publically be released before then), it will most likely use the same method (extract DATA.BIN, edit it in the editor, then wack it back into the ISO). Interesting pics. Doubling up seems very odd.... but the goods news is the team data structure looks identical from what I can see, meaning if we can successfully export and reimport the file into the ISO, making it compatible with my editor shouldn't be too big of a headache. Then again, with the state of the audio you described, I'm not sure if I'd make it a priority to add its supports... that pretty dismall...
  2. do you have a mod chip? if so, dump the NHL06 DVD to and ISO using DVD Decrypter. Open it in a hex editor, find "Sweep". Change the first character, save the ISO, and burn it to a DVD. Load the hacked DVD and see if the game still work on the PS2. Would be a good first test to see if hacking the 94 Retro will work. Not sure when NHL06 hits Australian shores so it could be a short while before I can look at it myself. Also, post a shot of the hex editor screen where you found the data Sweep so I can see what it looks like
  3. Well, not what you are exactly after, but the attached midi is the title music from the Genesis NHL94 rom. I created it by doing a GYM dump in Gens (under the "Sound" menu). Using a utility found at zophar's domain called GYM2MID, I converted the exported .GYM to a MIDI file. Turned out quite well. The 92 title music on the other hand didn't, and would need to be tinkered a little within a midi editor to possibly sound better. With any luck you could find a SPC (or ZST - zsnes thing I understand?) dump tool for SNES games that may allow you to do the same thing? nhl_hockey_94__ue________title_music.zip
  4. dude, your offer is quite fair/acceptable... I was just trying to see how much you'd be milked for if pushed. You haven't offended anyones skills in your posts, nor do I think you have offended anyone with your offer. As as for my last post, it was just a light hearted joke... you seriously think I'd though you where a NHL94 huster? I'd hoped the at the end would make that complete clear to you, but obviously not. No drama. Thanks for the history leason in attempt to defend yourself "Ace"! ;)
  5. No I have never compiled it myself (nor am I set up with the tools to do so... never looked into it basically). I made a post on the pgen forums along time ago to sjeep with the request for resolution switching ingame, but unfortunately that was around the time it was pretty clear he would no longer be developing it further (and he released the code shortly after). Haven't followed the scene in a long while so not sure what over offshoot development have arisen with the release of the source.
  6. thats because your friendly request sounds more like gambling, and with a name like Ace McGee you (and Eric) must be NHL94 hustlers. peace.
  7. Well considering time is effectively equal to money, and people are inconveniencing themselves to come challenge you both in your state, you should offer some additional incentive/penalty to yourself if you loose, e.g. 20% of net loss bonus payout to the challenger. Making the example a payout of a $384 in total if you guys loose.
  8. So hang on, you expect everyone to gamble triple the amount of money as you and your friend Eric effectively are? For example: Challenger to Pittsburgh cost $80 + Challenger return home cost $80 + Challenger cost if they lose the series $80 = $240 risk If the challenger wins, so they win $80 (flight or gas money to Pittsburgh). It'll cost them that to get home again, meaning they are still out of pocket $80 all up for the experience. Mind you if you thinks thats fair, I'll over you they same conditions if you want to come challenge me. I live in Australia!
  9. Well I just checked the Genesis FIFA 95 and 98 and both have the common EA checksum routine as used in the NHL series. Simply do a find for 6602, goto the last occurence of it and change it to 4E71 (or remove it completely as in my more detailed instructions to make it load marginally quicker. ) I did a quick name edit test after doing so, and can confirm it will load.
  10. In short, a windows based PC. A hex editor such as "Hex workshop" A rom image of the original game. A genesis emulator such as "Gens" to test your changes. Hardware wise, any modern PC (PIII 700+) will do the trick. The most intensive part of the whole process is emulating the game thru "Gens", so if your PC can do that efficiently, thats all you will need. be sure to check out all of Evan's NHL94 site! Grab the essentials at Downloads Then start reading at Editing the BIN
  11. I simply took some old game genie master codes for a few of the early NHL roms in the series. Working back what they did (they effiectively rom hack bytes dynamically when the game loads), all the master codes (needed to have other codes work) changed the checksum routine bytes 6602 to 4E71. This works for all EA games I've checked except for NHL & NFL 98, which have no checksum routines... and from that I learnt who to remove the checksum in all games (as per my linked topic instructions).
  12. Well I'm sure the author of emulinker assessed that Java would be enough for the job. Time will tell I guess. Still haven't got around to testing it. Tried connecting to his test server then, but my ping is too high from downunderland. re: cyberpad. I messed with the first release some time ago... I guess such support for CD loading etc have give you some hope with dosbox! interesting what you say about cyberpad/kaillera.... considering the code was never officially release even after all the requests. Also, isn't cyberpad p2p like, and not a sync server design like kaillera? unless things changed (or I have a real bad memory).
  13. Yeah, I know, that why I love the game even more now on the emulator (I'm in a PAL region) If you actually look at the header info in the ROM EA Hockey was released a month of two after 92 so its funny that its referred to as 91 all the time. Why fight it When I get around to it, I going try and find if its as easy as changing a hex value or two to hyperspeed (or should I say, 50hz) NHL92, and hopefully with that learn how to do it for 93 and 94. The PAL versions of 93 and 94 where shocking slow in PAL regions.
  14. I'll check UltraVNC out soon... looks like an interesting development... though I still would hold much hope for it in the scenario you're after. As for kaillera, no, never have looked at it. You're better of now focusing on EmuLinker now anyway... kaillera compatible, and still being developed on! Re: Loading the files, yeah, I don't see it working. The ROM is an loaded as a complete image in RAM, so the unless you could load a dosbox save state or something as an alternative, I don't think you'll have much luck making it work (not to say that would work either, as it would reference the harddrive again to load file at some point later game)... but then again, I dont the the complete ins and outs of kaillera, so who knows...? well, the dude developing emulinker might
  15. Actually, you're right, if SNES station can do it, so could Gens. They just haven't bothered to program it in. x240 is the actual vertical harware res, though on a tv ntsc screen (60hz), you don't see anything outside of the x224 pixels.
  16. Hmmmm.... it should work if done properly. Oh well, here is another way.... Take a clean 97 rom (or atleast don't use the same rom you used to test the method above). Goto 1E253C Change the value 6602 to 4E71 I got it the wrong way around in my earlier post!
  17. Sending screen data (VNC like) versus keyframe data (Kaillera), is a lot more intense. While it would work okay on an internal LAN, I wouldn't give it much hope over the net with a 40ms ping between the two players. I personally haven't yet tried UltraVNC, as I didn't know if it. Of all the VNC's I've tried for work based situations, nothing beats Remote Desktop (XP native). The next best product is Remote Administrator though it is not free, and as good as it is, trust me it could not do what you're asking acceptability. Games thru VNC software have too many complex updates to often to work.
  18. Yes unfornately PGEN only support one of the two genesis native resolutions, 320x240, and not 256x240 which mean you have nasty horizontal border. I assume the PS2 supports 256x240? Mind you, its not the first emulator not to support such the res. The limited MAME release for PS2 also runs 256x240 res games with vertical borders. I made a few small mods to Gens a while back, but I'm not knowlegded up enough (nor have the free time at the moment) to try and mod PGEN. Mind you, I only go for a fix of 91 on PGEN and it actually does a real good job of it if you set the less accurate faster screen redraw method (which I can't remember the name of atm).
  19. Refer to this post. Note, the checksum routine is bigger in 97 than 94 (used in the example), and the refering offset is at Hex 768 and not Hex 302. Ignoring the above, and if you want the you want the quick fix, find the last occurence of 4E71 and change it to 6602 (from memory).... I recommend you follow the stesp above though/
  20. You need to use a SMD to BIN ROM converter. I found the attached utility on google. It's windows based and should do what you need. smd2bin.zip
  21. I think the error requesting server list has to do with the main kaillera site (and server) being down at the moment. If someone is running a kaillera server (Evan?) that you know of (which you probably don't, nor would I expect you to) then click the [Enter IP] button to direct yourself to it. The username is basically your "handle" when you connect to a server. No big deal... can be whatever you like.. . Some servers can prompt for passwords on connect (from memory). This is to allow a small group of friends to run their own private server and not have any ole one connect. To configure you controller in Gens, goto Options > Joypads, and click [Refine Keys] for Player One. Follow the prompts and that should do it.
  22. As it alway hard to know what your computer knowledge, I'll start with the basics. re: netplay, do you have any firewall software installed like nortons that may be affecting its connection? No? is it being block by your router.... Kailleras used a range of ports which I cant remember off the top of my head. re: controller, plug in the usb device and the controller... go to the game controllers section of the control panel (XP/OS) and test the device & controller in the properties (which has a test button facility) Assuming that works, did you configure the controller correctly within Gens?
  23. Head to NHL.com and check out the videos on the front page under "New rules explained" which have been created by EA.
  24. Just curious, but are you guys implying implying that the Genesis version does not have support for four players? In Gens, setting the emulators controller settings so Port 1 is set to the "Team Player" device and then loading NHL94 does allow you to play 2 vs 2 (or 2 vs 1) in Regular Season mode. Unfortunately, 3+ players is not supported in Playoff Mode though I wonder if a hack could get around that.
  25. Hmmmm.. well I haven't checked things to those details. I hope for the sake of simplicity you are wrong Though even if you are right (not doubting you either ) little changes like that shouldnt be to hard. I guess a lot more will be learned after its release so I refine thing more as more people edit and learn more about the difference between game years.
