  1. Nice job @Genesis Does! That's a really cool idea and it looks natural! I just posted a updated version of the playoff edition of the 2020 rom (replaced the previous PO edition). It's still the same playoff brackets as before. I will do another post once we get past round one of the newly proposed 24-team NHL playoff bracket. I will post round 2's brackets as well as update lines and d pairings as many injured players will be back for the playoffs. With this re-post, I took the encouragement/advice of @Jkline3 and updated the majority of the center ice logos. Many of them were stretched, especially any circle logos. That's the case with the original NHL94 too. So, I focused on them as it was a good suggestion on his part. There were a couple of CI logos that I didn't re-size like the Winnipeg logo. I don't think that it looks bad "as is" (in the rom) and re-sizing actually does make it look bad (IMO). I also did some touch up to several others as well (albeit, minor details). I also updated some player ratings. Minor stuff here an there, that didn't make it into the original playoff edition, that I had time to recently update. I left the line/d pairings alone vs the previous version (for anyone who was using it). Anywho...if anyone downloads it, enjoy! Cheers!
  2. What @chaos said... You can certainly play with a keyboard but, I recommend a controller as it makes it a heck of a lot easy to play. There are several posts, on this forum, of recommended controllers that can be bought online and won't break the bank (on cost). That is, if you wish to go that route.
  3. There are few players who have juiced attributes. It's ok though. It adds an element of fear/concern/strategy when you play against them. In some cases, certain players have attributes that are incorrect (e.g - Robitaille was not a fast skater, Leetch was a quick skater, etc.). I don't think it hurts the game play experience very much. Yes, they did make guys like Ed Belfour super human. He was a good goalie who was solid in the early 90s, and had a good year in 1992-93, but he wasn't better than Roy, at that time. But, whatever. It's an easy thing to debate (as stats can be misleading) but not worth it given how epic the game is for us fans. As for Gretzky, he did get a "little hosed" because he was hurt most of 1992-93 and EA bases attribute ratings on prior year performance (with the obvious exception of Ray Bourque and his shot accuracy). Still, Gretzky had 65 points in 45 games and he rebounded very nicely in 1993-94. But, the 90s saw his goal production go down as he became a full-on "playmaker." His skating declined and his shot power was never that good. That said, I'm not sure where one would bump his attributes. He's still got a good rating. With Kovalev, he was a young player, fresh in the league at that time. His 1992-93 season was nothing special as he hadn't reached his star power yet. The one area that he is inaccurately rated is his stickhandling. The guy was a legend with the puck on his blade. He also had an underrated wrist shot (even though there is no rating for that skill) and while not a fast skater, had good edge work/balance. He played the game at a slower pace and some misconstrued him as lazy or overrated in his early years. My guess is, whoever scouted him, for this game, didn't know much about him and rated him conservatively. But, he had only been in the league for a year so I kinda get why he is not rated like a superstar.
  4. JK3 is killin' it with these awesome quarantine-era roms!!! Nice job buddy!
  5. Nicely done, per usual!
  6. Gretzky had a bit of a muffin shot in the 90s. His accuracy was based on his 92-93 shot % so it might accurate. Although, a little bump would be nice due to rep. Brian Leetch should be a four speed not a three. Dude could fly and was one of the best puck moving dmen of that era. Whereas, Luc Robitaille, for example, was a slow skater and yet, is rated a four. Things like that can be “annoying” but not a deterrent from playing. Ray Bourque is rated too high in shot accuracy, for example, based on how he did in 92-93 vs how others were rated. So, the rating logic is inconsistent there. So, if he was rated on rep than several other dmen were hosed. I do agree about Michel Goulet. If anything, some of the fourth liners or 5-7 dman may have got “hosed.” By default, most are given slow speed, low stick handling and weak shots. Not all of it is accurate. Maybe a few backup goalies could have been rated a little higher? Hard to say. All sports games have that one player who got hosed. EA has it every year and usually it’s several players. It’s the irony of “if it’s in the game, it’s in the game.”
  7. Howdy! Caught two mistakes in my latest rom post. I have fixed them and re-uploaded it. I also added a couple of players and touched up some CI logos (for kicks and giggles). Cheers!
  8. Hi All! So, unfortunately, due to the coronavirus scare/situation, we now have a suspended NHL season with no certainty for it's return. So, to alleviate some boredom and/or hockey withdrawal, I am releasing a "Playoff Edition" for my rom ("NHL94 2020 vPO"). It's the playoff brackets as of 3/12/20. So, if the season doesn't reconvene, these would be your playoff brackets (assuming there would be a playoffs). What to know: *There are two playoff brackets within this rom. One, for the teams that would be in the playoffs as of today. Two, those teams that didn't make it into the post-season. As the west, for bracket 2, only has 15 teams, I added St. Louis to balance it out. *Updated rosters and jersey numbers are of 3/12/20. No Evan Rodrigues on the Pens due to roster structure limits (and Guentzel still being on the game roster). *Lines and D-pairings are not exact in each case. Feel free to change as you see fit. *All injured players, who have not been officially ruled out for the year, are still in the active rosters. *Players who are out for the season are in the game but not active. Some, are still in the NLC lines (Erik Karlsson, Tomas Hertl and Jake Guentzel). *New NLC players and/or images for PIT. I made Matt Murray the starter (again) as many believe that he will be come playoff time (if there is one) as he has played better lately, has tons of post-season experience and Sully really likes/trusts him. *I updated/tweaked jersey colors for all teams. Some may be a little more noticeable then others if you have a older version of the rom. I used a site that provides official team RGB colors to try and get the game colors closer to the actual colors (as best I could). *Increased stamina reduction which allows more line changes for any game with periods over 5 mins in length. For all other ROM details, please review the original post on page 1 of this thread. If the season returns and we get a change in the playoffs seeding, I will release an updated version. Enjoy!
  9. I'm probably reiterating stuff already said but, it would be great if each tourney had two competitions - Hardcore Gamer Brackets & Causal Gamer Brackets. Hardcore would be for the folks who enter because they are hellbent on taking down a @kingraph or @angryjay93 or whoever is the best at a given moment. Basically, those who buy into Rick Flair's "if you wanna be the best, you need to beat the best" mentality. But, also, a competition for those causal players who don't play in online leagues or maybe in even "walk-ins" who remember the game from their youth and wanna see how they'd do against similar skilled folks. These people aren't likely to beat the best (ala 1980 Olympics) and probably, arent interested in trying and potentially getting humilated. NYC beers are too expensive to effectively drown such sorrows. Plus, there are plenty of folks around watching so getting your butt kicked in front of a group of folks stings that much worse. Obviously, the winnings, for each scenario, should be very different. However, if promoted this way, you "could" pull more folks out of their comfort zone to wanna try their hand at a tourney. You would just need to figure out a way to seed each bracket based on the sign ups. Maybe the winner of the casual bracket also gets entered into the hardcore bracket? I dont know... just throwing ideas out there. It's not just the idea of getting your butt kicked that can be a deterent. Rather, it's "I traveled x amount of distance at x amount of cost to get here and be eliminated rather quickly by someone I had no business going up against." (which @segathon discussed) I definitely think how these events are shaping up is going in a good direction as it is fair and competitive but, yes, it could cost you some of the casual gamers.
  10. Hi Gents! I don't have any bullets to add as I have only attended one event but I do have a suggestion (if you don't mind...). One thing I would suggest is name tags. Yes, it is corny. But, it helps folks who are new to the crowd to have some names with the faces. Maybe a tag with their real name and forum name. I got to meet some cool folks like @kingraph, @chaos, @Evan and @CoachMac when I attended NYC 2019 and definitely agree that friendships can be forged at such events. Me, I'm fairly out-going so I'll just walk up to anyone and introduce myself but not everyone is that way. If memory serves, I think Raph and Chaos had lanyards with their names - I can't recall how I knew it was them (as I never met them prior to the event). But, I felt bad asking them to ID other forum posters to me as I knew they were busy. Anywho, just a thought. It's what frustrates me when I see the great pics posted on this forum, for events, and I don't know who the H half of the people are, in those photos. LOL I will see if I can make it out for NYC 2020. I enjoyed going last year as I like playing some exis and drinking beer. I would encourage folks to go even if they don't play in the tournament. Cheers, Sauce
  11. Thanks! The Isles were one of the center ice logos that I fixed to no longer be "stretched". Hat tip to Jkline for that suggestion. I also updated their home jerseys (as best I as I could). The blue may be a hair too dark, not sure... I need to play around with it.
  12. Cool! Hope you enjoy it! It was fun to update it. Of course, as soon as I replace Lundqvist with Shesterkin's headshot, for NLC rotating images, the kid gets into a car accident and is sidelined with a fractured rib(s). The curse of the NY Rangers!!! It's why Rangers fans can't have nice things. LOL
  13. Ok, so my Trade Deadline ROM has been posted on page one of this thread ("NHL94 2020 vTD"). What to know: *Updated rosters and jersey numbers are of 2/24. *Updated some Center Ice logos and Team Selection Logos (forgot which ones - lol) *New NLC players and/or images for ARZ, BUF, CBJ, CHI, DET, EDM, FLA, LAK, NJD, NYR, OTT & WPG. *Increased stamina reduction which allows more line changes for any game with periods over 5 mins in length (yes, CHK line can appear in period 1). For all other ROM details, please review the original post on page 1 of this thread. My next, and final, ROM post, for this season, will be the Playoff Edition. Enjoy!
  14. Trade Deadline ROM will be posted tomorrow. It is essentially done. I am just awaiting a few confirmations on some jersey numbers. File and details to come...
  15. Awesome! Thanks for putting this all together!
  16. Agreed... it does look better than before. Nice job bud! I’d be curious to see what it would look like with the red line extended. Oh, small detail, the center ice logo needs to be rotated (if you ever go this route on a ROM). The logos face away from the team benches. But again, nice job figuring a way to make it less “squished.”
  17. I agree. It doesn't look as nice when re-arranged. As you said, the whole playing from top to bottom to top makes it look off.
  18. I apologize as I misplaced the notes. It definitely can be done and if memory serves, you just rotate the team center ice logo, in TM, and then alter some hex code in the rom file (where the center ice logo placement exists for each team). Unfortunately, I just can’t recall the specifics. @Jkline3 if possible, would you mind chiming in with your knowledge of the subject? Assuming that you remember the how, of course.
  19. Yes, it is absolutely possible to have center ice logos go horizontal vs vertical. @Jkline3 figured it out once upon a time. We had PMed back and forth about it. I’ll check and see if I still have the notes. Stay tuned...
  20. Nicely done @lendogg81! And, welcome to the NHL94 community!
  21. 1st post, 1st rom. It's for GENS but that's because not many custom SNES roms are created in comparison to GENS. Switch to the dark side! lol
  22. Hi All - I just posted V4. It reflects recent trades and the Kovalchuk signing (MTL). What's new: *Tweaked jersey colors for COL and CGY. *Updated NLC lines for EDM, CHI and VAN. *Added the stamina hack so that lines/d pairings tire faster, when using line changes. Line changes will occur more often in games that have longer than 5 min periods. Not an exact science but I have seen improvement. It has no barring on games with NLC. *Altered my goalie ratings to no longer be structured in tiers. Allows for better ratings. *Updated several player ratings.
  23. Cool! I actually thought of doing a WC rom of all of the WC games (so far). Just haven’t had the time. Maybe one day as the first 5 WC games were pretty good in terms of entertainment value.
