Yeah, I think I may have underestimated how difficult this is going to be! I used to play OTT vs All Stars West against a buddy of mine who played maybe 100 games total. He'd beat me once in a while.  These B players are quality players, so it's going to be the other way around, I hope I can steal a game here and there.

I would have felt more comfortable with TB or FLA, but I picked SJ since they're more balanced. I can't rely on a (relative) superstar like Bradley, or the good auto goaltending of Beezer (and Murphy is actually pretty good). I'll have to learn a thing or two :).

    I'll take SJ smoz

  2. welcome  back BHF!  One of best dudes in community history.

BHF was a great tutor my first year in the community.  I remember having a discussion with him in my first GDL draft, season 3.  We had back to back picks in first round, like 16/17.  The discussion at the time was Russ or Petr.  He ended up taking Russ first and I got Klima.

HIs SN says it all, fantastic backhand floater that a lot of guys have now turned into the backhanded pass shot.

  3. Highly recommend 2v2 for developing a number of in game skills.  Not only is it fun, but it's laid back and winning/losing isn't the highest priority to most guys.

I credit a lot of my skill development in 2v2.  Here are the top ones for me that might help you develop as well:

    1. Goalie Control:  2v2 is basically all breakaways and open look one timers.  Also, it's simpler to identify where the one timer is coming from a lot quicker than 5v5 and prepare your G positioning ahead of time.  Use these games as a chance to grab GC as often as possible.
    2. Pass Shots:  There are anywhere from 10-20 breakaways per game and nearly impossible to get checked when you're on the breakaway.  Since there are so many this is the ideal time to focus on the shooter and their dekes.  In 5v5 you also need to concern yourself with the possibility of one timers.  Not so much in 2v2 since most guys go hard to the net with blinders on

Having run leagues with you in them, and having to listen to you constantly complain about deadlines dragging out in playoffs, I assumed you would hold to your belief come time to handle your own league and have made stricter guidelines to go along with your strict regular season booting policy.

I understand soft deadlines (ie 2 weeks), but don't understand "if I become bothered", especially from a guy who made SUCH A DEAL about AJ using the full 2 weeks allotted to him within the league guidelines.

Not sure I/we trust you to be the guy with the "bothered by" trigger.

Obviously, it's your league, so not much real say I/we have other than to post and byatch like you did/do, and/or not re-join.

pretty much sums up my frustration.  If you're going to be so strict in regular season why let up so much in playoffs?  Especially when a couple of the playoff guys have notoriously delayed playoffs regularly.

I accept getting booted, just sucks seeing a 180 done immediately when playoffs start.

Seems reasonable to me.  The guys that made the playoffs proved they were finishers -- or they would have been booted already --. so things can now proceed in Good Faith.

Seems reasonable if you don't look at past history of length of playoffs

FIrst, thanks for the vid!  I do believe you are the #1 pass shooter.  Thanks for sharing your knowledge. :)

Second, are all those pass shots?  Some of them look like regular shots? At the very least, to my untrained eye, some of them look like they *could* be a regular shot, but I guess you elect to score with a pass?  Is a pass shot just that much better (almost) all the time?

All of them are pass shots.  Some of them could be slappers instead but I find the pass shot is a lot quicker with no real tell unlike slappers.

I have no reason to lie about anything in 94.  Believe what you will.  This thread has reminded me that I haven't been doing a lot of this strategy on purpose lately.  I'll have to start incorporating it because it's very effective.  Loft right over your D and catch it as it hits the ice.  My unintentional ones are risky and detrimental, I admit that.  I have no tolerance for playing against Brutus anyway, his laptop is not sufficient for gaming and causes a sanctuary lag-city.  Even my games vs AJ and Depch are buttery smooth since I bought a new PC last year and upgraded to fast internet.  Some of you people's laptops are laughably inadequate and cause the same problems (I won't name any other names, cough cough Lupz and a couple others).

You sound like Eddie Murphy in Trading Places
