  1. I think its awesome how we all found this site to share our love for NHL '94. Kind of interested in hearing everyone's story of how they stumbled upon this site. I remember this last summer I was looking up some highlight videos on youtube to put up on my myspace and I saw one of the "infamous" Dr. Pizza commentary videos in the related videos section off to the side. It caught my eye because I saw the Minnesota Wild logo on the ice and I said to myself "wait a second, the Wild weren't around in 94!" Like an idiot I always talk to myself. So anyways I watch the clip and bam, before I knew it NHL 94 came back into my life.

    What is everyone else's story?

  2. too much fun with this game...beating down your oppenent after he scores its just hillarious.. This game is awesome and it would be truely great if it had manual goaltending. the scores usually end up being football scores

Old thread but I just finished up with 5 or 6 games of 91 myself. One punch knock out with Gretzky after going coast to coast is too much fun. Just had 24 fights in one game, excellent.

  3. I think it would be cool to have a tournaments section somewhere on the forum. So if you want to host/are looking for a tournament in the off season or just randomly it would be an easy and convenient way to do so. I'm not sure how popular tournaments, still a noob bare with me, but just an idea I had browsing the board just now.

  4. Vinnie,

We're going to be making some changes hopefully tomorrow. Most of the Gens players that are CONFIRMED on the waiting list who HAVEN'T been in a league yet can expect to be in a league in the next couple of days. You will be notified when this happens. I apologize to the coaches that are following the rules, we appreciate it.

Is there any confusion as to how many games need to be played by which date? Let me know.

    -Evan

Ok, wasn't quite clear because I have been looking for this guy all season and he hasn't been available so I was just wondering when we were going to get someone new to fill-in.

    Thanks Evan.

  5. well basing the ratings on individual stats is extremely subjective. pretty much i just based ratings on overall performance of the team. So mostly team stats. for example wisconsin was a team with a good defense and good goaltending, but very weak offense last year. So i would beef up the d and weaken the offense. I didn't use names either. only numbers. i even thought of just using numbers 1-25 or however many players were on the team. Also eliminated the weight factor. player weight only varied slightly. segathon may have a good idea, but a decent coach with a light team can f**k up a heavy team beyond recognition, so i just made them all 180-204 or so. I wish i still had it so i can show you guys, but i dont unfortunately. But thats the basic idea that i had for rosters. In case anyone cares.

That's how I have been working on it based on rankings. I have created my own little system for frosh-seniors skill wise. The thing I have been doing different is doing a players real weight.

  6. First off I'm not saying any names. I know how it can be tough to keep up with games, I have a rough availability schedule myself but have managed to stay ahead and on top of the check points. How is a player that's 20 games behind schedule not been removed from a league? I only have two coaches and 6 games left to play, four games which are against a coach that i have never seen online. I don't know if there's something going on, we all have lives and obligations to fulfill, but I just find it strange that coaches have been removed after the first check point and some coaches who are very far behind have not yet been removed. I was waiting until after yesterday's check point to ask this.

  7. Hey fellas,

I'm on my three day weekend now. I plan on getting the rosters and teams done. Any suggestions for NCAA teams you guys would like to play with? I could take some teams out and replace them with some others that I know will not last in the top 30. So I'm open to suggestions, just let me know soon enough before I get too deep into doing the rosters.

    Take it easy boys,

    -Vinnie

  8. Hows your Rom coming. I have been getting much better at editing graphics and was thinking about making my own Frozen Four version of NHL94 but i don't want to compete with someone elses rom. So please keep us updated with the status of your rom

Inklings, glad to see you're doing some good things with imaging. Doesn't matter to me if you make a ROM, mine will probably take a good while to be completed. I finally got the first polls of the year from uscho.com:

    1 North Dakota (13) 24-14-5 545 6

    2 Boston College ( 3) 29-12-1 519 4

    3 Michigan State (11) 26-13-3 513 10

    4 Miami ( 1) 24-14-4 471 13

    5 Minnesota ( 1) 31-10-3 470 2

    6 New Hampshire 26-11-2 454 5

    7 Clarkson 25- 9-5 396 3

    8 Notre Dame 32- 7-3 358 1

    9 Boston University 20-10-9 332 9

    10 Michigan 26-14-1 296 8

    11 Colorado College 18-17-4 277 20

    12 Maine 23-15-2 234 14

    13 Denver 21-15-4 232 15

    14 Quinnipiac 21-14-5 196 16

    15 Wisconsin 19-18-4 181 17

    16 St. Lawrence 23-14-2 159 11

    17 St. Cloud State 22-11-7 90 NR

    18 Cornell 14-13-4 85 NR

    19 Ohio State 15-17-5 51 NR

    20 Vermont 18-16-5 46 NR

    Others Receiving Votes: Massachusetts 45, Michigan Tech 38, RIT 18, Dartmouth 17, Nebraska-Omaha 16, Bemidji State 13, Harvard 11, Niagara 7, Air Force 6, Providence 5, Western Michigan 5, Rensselaer 2, Colgate 1, Robert Morris 1

I'll probably start working on my rosters a bit when time frees up a little bit here. I want to see you follow through with your rom Inklings, because if I get too swamped with time I would still love to play an NCAA rom. I'll still be working on my own but I don't really see it as a competitive situation.

    Take care all.

  9. Hey guys, I've been putting this off a little bit after the little screw up. I'm waiting for uscho.com to release the 07-08 polls before I decide which teams to put on. The names of the players won't be put on the rom, just like in NCAA football games. Player skills will probably not match the number of the top players on teams, mainly because at the college level it's hard to find their previous stats. Whole team overall ratings will be accurate though. Also, at the college level there can be a huge difference from team ranked #1 between team ranked #30, so if you're playing with Minnesota you are going to rip teams like Niagara apart. If anyone has an cool ideas or suggestions for this edit I would love to hear them(except for adding ACHA college teams on this rom, it's NCAA varsity teams not ACHA club hockey teams.) I know there isn't a huge fan base for college puck on this forum, but I would still like to hear any thoughts. I was thinking of making goalies a little less skilled than what they would be for an average nhl edit, mainly because goalie is such a competitive position to make it into the NHL, and most college goalies don't graduate to the top level. So let's hear some thoughts fellas.

  10. Boston Globe:

Coach of BOS kupuck19 is having trouble getting the W on the road. BOS as yet to be able to prove themselves to be able to win on the road(being 0-6). Coach kupuck19 stated, "We need to be able to kick those bus legs out of our system before the first period. Too many times on the road we go down in the first, and are not able to gel as a team until late second or in the third." Adam Oates also commented, "It is always tough to go into the other team's barn and be able to come out on top. But we have the talent to do it, we all need to start stepping up and focusing on what we need to do off the first drop to win."

The Bruins were almost able to end the streak in HockeyTown Detroit, Mich. But experienced a late melt down in the third which lead to an OT loss. Goaltender Andy Moog commented after the game, "We were up 2-0 and thought we had the game in the bag. Wesley and Bourque were doing a good job of covering the middle to eliminate the Red Wings' offensive chances. At the end we made the mistake of sitting back." Coach kupuck blames himself for the lack of leadership. "As a team we need to play all three periods of hockey, meaning we play hard when the clock says 5:00 minutes in the first to when the clock says 0:00 in the third. In this league you can't sit back entirely, you have to stay strong on the defensive side of things."

  11. I feel for ya man. Me and Mylec were joking last night about the94 injured reserve list. I hurt my knee power skating yesterday, because I have to walk to another dorm to get good kaillera connection kupuck is also on injured reserve list with a day to day injury.

  12. When the score is something like 10-2 in the second period.. seriously, lighten up. When you play shinny with your little brother, do you embarrass him with every move you know? Give the guy the a chance to learn. Take him out when he does something really bad, but let other things slide a bit. Practice moves that are harder for you to pull off, like Gretzky-esque one-timer passes from behind the net. When pro NHLers hold training camps with 12-year olds, do they take their hardest slapshots and use their best moves and saves? Make your moves a little less perfect than usual so the guy has a chance to learn how to counter them. If everything he does fails, he won't know what to do in order to be better. People need that positive reinforcement.

If you're playing a guy roughly at the same level as you and you have a good game and the score gets crazy, sure, light it up -- the next game will likely be closer. But when you know the guy is completely outmatched, there's no reason to run up the score. No one gains anything from it (unless you're insecure and need to win 14-3 to feel good about yourself. Or you want to scare the guy off so he never plays you again).

And the idea that it's about 'commitment' is specious.

Things are a little different when it comes to competitive leagues (vs exhibition games), since GF/GA difference can be important, but still, if you're winning 10-2, you're probably doing well enough in the league that a few goals isn't going to make much of a difference.

I agree man. Being a new coach to the league myself, I wouldn't appreciate any of the vets running up a 15-2 score. And the good thing is I've never played a game where I was out matched and the guy ran up the score. I've played exhibition out matched games. I remember the first time I ever played anyone online it was against gr8199, who could have easily beaten my 20-0, but he was pretty sensitive to the fact I was a rookie and it only ended up being a 6-0 game. He also gave me great pointers and it really improved my game, and it's also happened with other out matching opponents where they kind of brought me along instead of slaughtering me. One of the great things about this site is the courtesy of the vets to the rooks. If I were slaughtered every time I played, I would have probably been discouraged from joining the league. I still have a league game now and than where I get smoked, but I realize it's all a learning process and there's things to improve upon.

As for the "cheap goals" and the vets picking top teams, cheap goals suck but learn to defend them and prevent those chances. Also, everyone here likes playing NHL 94, and enjoys the competitive atmosphere of the league. If we didn't enjoy the atmosphere and competitiveness of the league, we simply would just play exhibition games instead of league games.
