For anyone looking for some extra artwork for use in Emulation station or other launchers. I made an entry in the Launchbox database for the game hack. https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/games/details/431096-nhl-26:-'94-edition

I seem to be having an issue with your new standard ROM. The colours are all messed up. The widescreen version displays correctly. I use the Genesis Plus GX core in Retroarch to play. I also tried the PicoDrive core and the same issue happened.

I use Retroarch to play all my oldest systems and use the shaders that come with it, except for Genesis. There is a guy on YouTube called Retro Crisis that makes shaders. He has the best Genesis shader that I've seen anywhere. To my eyes, it perfectly blends the waterfall in sonic, but also you don't get any flickering pixels in NHL. He has seperate shaders for flat or curved screens and 720-4K resolutions. It makes a huge difference. Especially on the genesis, where they relied on the CRT TV to blend the pixels together to expand the colour palette. https://github.com/RetroCrisis/Retro-Crisis-GDV-NTSC

The wonderful people here hacked the game and changed the display mode the actual gameplay outputs at. The original game stretched the picture while playing. Here are before and after screenshots. The widescreen version doesn't stretch the image across a 4:3 aspect ratio. You get to see more of the ice this way. Personally, I really liked it at first, but now I feel it kind of throws off the viewing angle. I'm curious if the original game developers ever spoke about choosing between the different display modes.

That's interesting. I've never tried retroarch on an apple device. I know on the nintendo cores, when you have it set to the uncorrected aspect ratio, it displays it at 8:7 instead of 4:3.

Hey there friend. There a few settings you can double check. Go into the retroarch video settings and select the scaling menu. Make sure the aspect ratio setting is at core provided. This way, whichever core (emulator) you're using will be able to select the aspect ratio. Next, exit retroarch to save the configuration change. You can obviously skip this step if if you didn't need to change any setting. Start the game and go into the quick menu, core options, video. Make sure the core provided aspect ratio option is set to auto. That should fix any aspect ratio issues. The only time I'm aware of people really changing the aspect ratio in the retroarch settings is if they are using fancy shader packs with bezels. I've personally never had any issues with Genesis. I've only switched from 4:3 to 8:7 aspect ratios on Nintendo consoles. I hope this helps.

🥳 A nice way to keep yourself in the hobby. Happy to see you guys sharing your knowledge. I introduced an old friend who was totally unaware of the hacking scene this weekend. He was blown away. He's going out to buy a little computer to make a retro console setup and relive the glory days. We played NHL, punch out, and rad racer. 🤔 I wonder if it's possible to emulate the power glove with a Wii remote or PS4 controller...

I liked your title screen, but it was missing something. I fixed it. Your welcome. This should have been the original title screen. Go Killer!

I'm not a fan of the advertising on the Jerseys. At least the leafs milk ad is less intrusive than other teams ads.
