  1. How did you go about determining the groups out of interest? Group F is looking fierce
  2. Can't believe the time is upon us already. Where has the summer gone? I havent allowed enough excitement to build yet and my thumbs definitely are not ready
  3. I'm very impressed with the development of this thread.. What's the current count at? I've been doing my part to solicit the registration of several SNES players, all of whom are of high skill level but have never played on this site. I predict there will be a great many more of these non-site players than originally expected. I just find it really weird that anyone would have played GENS 94 growing up because I find the idea really difficult to understand that you would choose the Gens system over a SNES. How could you grow up (with or without vaccines) with no Mario World, mario kart - hell, even mario paint - in your life?? Just too bizarre for me to understand. SNES goona get it done!
  4. Are we allowed to spread the good word to 94 players who are not a part of this website or are we still in an early signup phase?
  5. Anyone around for some SNES games? I need to start getting back in shape for the tourney!
  6. Just signed up too! Gonna be sweet! Still too early to speak of any details, but...Toronto's my home town, I got the wonderful SNES system, and I gots the multi-tap and comptrollers.. Also if anyone has any Toronto specific questions I'm happy to help. If you've never been before and you're looking for some nice spots to check out (if you're not playing 94' all weekend that is) drop me a line and I'd be happy to make some recommendations.
  7. Very very cool! I know this is old news to everyone but I'm just getting around to it now! So cool! I'm sure by now McMikey you've found just how awesome and helpful this community can be. I used to be active on this site many years ago but frustrations over never winning a championship and a busy work schedule sent me into an early retirement. I'll always remember tho the good natured folk on here and the relative absence of difficult and negative personalities. The tournament you have planned in Toronto this September is too good to be true. I would never forgive myself if I didn't take the 15 minute subway ride to partake! Just dusted off the old console and have begun some rigorous weekly thumb excerises to get me back in shape for the big day! You probably have it all sorted out by now, but I hope your doc can give ample if not equal consideration to SNES!! For me, NHL 94 has always been a SNES game. Gens is so foreign and alien to me. I think you will find folks on here to be very passionate about the two 94 worlds and this could make for some entertaining content. You might be so bold as to say that it sits at the center of ANY conversation you might want to have about the game. Don't be afraid to ask those hard hitting questions! Which version is the version? Who is the better 94player - a SNES player or a GENS player? Is one easier than the other or is one more sophisticated and just a little bit more perfect?? I'm obviously very biased in the matter - I think it might be the case that most people side with the version they played and experienced first. I hope you can find some folks here or elsewhere that have informed experience in both camps, but any true story of 94 has to touch on this question at some point. oh yeah..SNES!
  8. Oh man how did I miss this?! Goes to show you should never stop visiting this website.. Do you have any other events lined up for Toronto? ..aside from that sweet tourny in September which I will certainly be attending!
  9. I will be playing more games tomorrow and this weekend if people can wait until then! For real!
  10. The only way I know of to score a pass goal consistently is on the penalty shot where you know that the other player is controlling his/her goalie. Take a small step to the left or right, then drive straight up and pass. You'll often score unless the other player can react quickly enough to stop a pass when theyre expecting a slow deke then a shot.
  11. Sorry for my absence gents. I had an unexpected trip to Vancouver where my availability was low. I'm back now but I decided it would be a good idea to smash my finger with a hammer. So I'm still nursing that small wound but I anticipate being back in top form to play lots of games this weekend! SDL lives on!
  12. I'm around, I've just been especially busy this week during the days which is usually when we have to play our games due to time zones. I'm about to go to Vancouver for the next two weeks so that may make it easier for us to connect.
  13. I didn't realize the ROM would be updated so quickly! Nice work. Unfortunately, I've only had a chance to look at it now.. Sorry to be a bother, but Vernon's GvR/Pas is rated at 55 but is only 45 on the ROM.
  14. Now that we are nearing the end of the draft I really think we should all consider the length of the season one last time. I don't mind how long it took for the draft to be completed (in fact I think we all did pretty well - except maybe a little slow in the final rnds) but I think that since we all put so much effort into it we should enjoy the teams we've made for longer than a 4game per team season. I'm a firm believer that a 6game format keeps the competition level much more interesting, and the final playoff standings much closer and more competitive. I really like the long committed season, and although it takes a bit longer to complete, the payoff at the end is that much better. Since the playoffs is more or less a fixed length of games, I also think the 6 game format offers a more balanced ratio of regular season games:playoff games with a 14 team roster. I think it also would make sense in terms of running successive seasons. The time it takes from the beginning of the draft to the end of the playoffs (with a 6game format) would seem to fit quite naturally with two long seasons - one for fall and one for spring (like classic, but starting earlier and ending later and with a break in the summer because the consensus is that people's availability drops off considerably in the summer) Is the biggest fear that people won't play all their games? Well we actually did pretty darn well last season so I should think things will only get better, with any further non-committed players slowly weeded out and excluded from future seasons. Finally, think of the stats. Think of Dan's beautiful stats that we have all come to love! Wouldn't it be a shame for us to already change the system and throw off continuity in what will hopefully become a long stats history? We would have to forever put an asterix next to first season stats and then think a lot harder when trying to figure out if our Terry Yakes or Lonny Loaches managed to match the performance of a first season Selanne or Lindros. THE STATS! Let's have a final discussion folks. My vote lies firmly with the more sophisticated, challenging, and gritty 6game format!

  16. Sweeet. Thanks for all the hard work gents!
  17. So just to set the record straight what are the official rules regarding deadlines?
  18. I'll stick with peg city, unless CJ wants to cough up Toronto...
  19. Right away could be fun..we may run into conflict during classic but i doubt it. Do we keep the same teams or draft new teams? I vote for keeping 6 games. It makes for a more interesting finish down the stretch because i think playing more games tends to brings most of the coaches closer together in standings. At least it seemed pretty close to me. I also like how the season becomes more of a grind. A bigger commitment makes for more at stake, more excitement, beefier stats - how can you go wrong? 6 GAMES!!! If we are drafting new teams, that's cool, but maybe to make things interesting we could leave the option of coaches making one trade mid-season? Would this mess with the stats? Could be some fun. Or if we're keeping the same teams it would be wicked to keep the stats saved from this past season so that each player/coach could start to accumulate career stats! I don't know how super you are dan. is any of this possible? I also vote that Bo become the new league commentator! lol
  20. Which are the non-statistical awards and what are they for?
  21. Ok so I feel better now and started watching the videos! LOL! didn't realize you actually commentated. some funny stuff! "and Richter's gonna want that one back" spot on there. lol I'll have to watch the rest of the games later. But now that I think of it, despite those initial games being close, I don't think I ever held the lead once all series. Maybe once early in a game. So good job again Bo. Courtnall was a pesky beast the whole series and I think i might have only won like 5 faceoffs..some good videos tho. Some rock em sock em hockey
  22. Maybe one day I will look at these videos..but right now the wound is too fresh.. It was a hard fought series..at least in the beginning. Games 1-3 were all ridiculously close, although I probably could have slapped up Richter a bit for some of his wilder play. I missed my opportunity late in the first game to tie it up after a decent comeback. Gotta love that post! 2nd game was of course tragic to lose with a terrible giveaway by coffee..reminds me of how the leafs are playing. All and all another close game. But the OT loss was a definite kick in the pants.. 3rd game. Another heart wrencher. I just couldn't capitalize on my pressure in the last minute. I really needed to win this game. I thought it would at least go to OT although I wasn't too thrilled about it, but sure enough Bo proved me wrong scoring a goal that would no doubt seal the series with seconds left in regulation. My guys were sapped of all their energy by narrowly missing three games...Richter lay down in the 4th and it was a blowout for Bo to win the cup. Not the prettiest of games, and certainly an anti-climax to what could have been a closer series..but it was was it was.. Bo played a stellar game throughout. This guy is as sharp as they come, and any slip up in concentration will likely cost you a goal if not more..it is a physical challenge for me to focus so intently for an entire series to the degree that is required to meet Bo's skill and surpass it. I was not up to the challenge but I will be bringing my best to classic. Congratulations to Bo for playing a great season. Congratulations and thanks also to Dan, for running this great league! The SNES draft was attempted once but it failed. You resurrected it and it was super. Some might disagree but I really liked the long format. It made for a harder fought and grittier season, and with so many games played it helped to mitigate the impact of some of the bad luck a player might have in a few tough losses. The standings overall were pretty close, and I liked it! At any rate, I think we can all agree that the inclusion of player stats was amazing, adding a new dimension to leagues that I hope can not only be improved upon and expanded but become a staple of all leagues not just SDL! Good job Dan! I'd like to also say how thrilled I was at the incredible display of skill in this league. All the coaches in the playoffs could have made a run for the cup, which is why I considered myself rather lucky to make the finals (but is where my luck clearly ran out). Despite the obvious standouts of C4 and Bo, who both played amazing seasons, the difference in points wasn't soo great for the remaining 6 spots. Everyone gave a hard fought series and I'm looking forward to playing you guys again in SDL and again and again in classic. Keep up the good work buds!!
  23. Big congratulations to Bo, he definitely deserved it! I'm ashamed and disappointed that I was not able to snag even one win in the finals. I guess all my luck was used up sneaking through the first two rounds. But I couldn't think of a better player to lose to. Bo's a classy bud and is certainly a great addition to our small but thriving SNES community.
  24. I agree. As long as people are playing their deadlines I think they should be treated equally. They shouldn't lose ground if they're not super fast. The deadlines are there as some sort of compromise so they should be treated as such and respected. This new system would start to favor those who finish as fast as possible rather than just all those who finish on time which I don't think is quite right.
