  1. don't think that we'd be stretching it out anywhere near the deadline, at the Dec. 29th. WE WON'T! I'm sure the conference final games could probably easily be done by then. Just let me and Ice get our series done at a time that's best for us. Playing a bit of 2on2, you can play with possible distractions. But a 2nd round GDL playoff series? no.
  2. Don't worry so much.... We planned it ahead a time, to most likely to play the series by Tuesday night (meaning by tonight). We both can probably stay up late, if need be, since we both are gonna have time off from work starting from today (though yesterday was my last day). So it's more of an even playing field from here. I think we both want to get the whole series done in one sitting, but comfortably, with less chance of distractions, for the both of us. Is that too much to ask?
  3. Genesis B QUARTERFINALS (best-of-seven) (13) Los Angeles Kings (ensuingfracas) @ (12) Toronto Maple Leafs (minddefect) LA 2 @ TOR 0 LA 8 @ TOR 5 TOR 4 @ LA 3 TOR 3 @ LA 5 TOR 4 @ LA 5 LA wins series 4-1 Good series fracas. Sandstrom definitely prevailed, of the battle at center against Gilmour. And made Potvin look silly.
  4. Well in my case, genuine aspect or not, it just doesn't feel right if it doesn't end up filling up a 27'' widescreen. I want it to looking like this in gdl, and like this in classic. So yah, everthing is stretched out wider than it normally should be on my screen......including my own Ed Belfour at goal! Muahahahaha! *edited images as to save smoz from having a heart attack from my careless, excess data pollution, involving the good people at imageshack. I am deeply sorry, and I solemnly swear to never make the mistake of uploading images in BMP format ever again
  5. Go inside the Video Codec folder, and right click on the file "KegaGameVideo.inf" and click install. . Go here if you still have issues.
  6. Here are two options I've mentioned before that still might be needed for 3.6 for more optimal online play: Make sure "Use Alternate Timing" is checked ----------- Also..... Type in something in the SRM Files box, where no SRM (Sram) could ever be found..... (the Disable Sram option still doesn't work) -------------------------------- *EDIT*--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And finally one other important issue I might add when it comes to switching to fullscreen. It seems thegr8199 has been right all along afterall, for the most part. It seems some of these desynchs are caused by certain players who's monitors seem to take too long of a time switching to fullscreen (SEBE! ), resulting in a desynch. This has been one of the reasons why desyncs seem to happen right from the beginning of the game for certain specific users. For some reason when you do the switch to fullscreen while in the menu screens of NHL94, rather than mid-game, it increases the chances of desync for some strange reason as well. Sebe's fix seems to be waiting to switch to fullscreen till the game loads at faceoff, but a much better and much more practical solution is switching your fullscreen resolution to something your monitor will switch to quickly. Setting your fullscreen resolution to match exactly the same as your desktop resolution, makes switching to fullscreen a much more timeless, flicker-free, and overall seamless process. Not to mention desynch free those few users that have that issue. At the very least, at least experiment and find one that works and looks best for you. Select a fullscreen resolution that matches your desktop resolution, or at the very least, use one that doesn't cause a long wait and/or multiple flickers while the switching from window mode to fullscreen mode is in process. So you shouldn't need to worry If you haven't had issues of desynching, then you are probably already good to go....though possibly your opponent isn't If for some reason the fullscreen issue is worse for you than Sebe's, and no matter what you do it takes longer than a few seconds to switch to fullscreen with ESC, you can always go into fullscreen ahead of time, before even loading the rom and starting/connecting to netplay. ---- I would like to probably repackage Kega so that the first 2 options that are recommended are already defaulted. The fullscreen issue is one that is user specific though. I'm probably making the fullscreen issue a bigger deal than it is, as I think it only affects a minority of players. But if those players play a lot of games with many others, it can give a lot of us headaches.
  7. " It seems, at the moment, while it allows you to use the option while in netplay, with a quick click on the video menu... it must've been disabled as some sort of safeguard possibly, during netplay. Darn Steve Snake and his built-in safe guards! ATM, I can still use Fraps on my quad-core system to capture on Kega, but I realize most players probably don't have the specs or hard drive space to be able to do the same. Hope I can find a way to trick Kega into using it's built-in recorder in netplay, or hope it gets enabled in the next version. You could in 3.5, and in 3.6 now. Just make sure the host has 4-way adapter enabled in options (might have to restart the emu to save changes first), and it allows you make a netplay game with 4 players by clicking the arrows when you create a game. Just make sure you use medium bandwith with 4 players, cause High will mostly likely be laggy. And bump up the latency higher than normal, probably try 100 latency at first, and try a notch or two higher if its laggy. Let me know if you want me to test along with 2 others, I'd be more than willing, since 4player would rock with in-game chat. a few weeks ago I was thinking of releasing a repacked Kega, with different optimal default settings for netplay, by adjusting the .INI config file. I still just might do that, for all nhl94 users to download, to make it easier for everyone. It can be user dependent, for instance, depending if you someone has a 4:3 montitor or a widescreen one like my new 27" lcd Picking the correct fullscreen resolution (1280x768 for me) could be it, but what i do personally is just uncheck both Fixed Aspect options (Fit and Zoom) to fill my whole screen. I don't care if the aspect is exactly correct or not, I just want it to stretch to fill out the screen!
8. Fooled around with it a bit. It should run even more consistent now, framerate and timing wise, on different players computer specs/configurations than before. This should mean netplay games should be smoother for people who might have had bad experiences with Kega in the past. For example, on my subpar laptop, 3.5 would run a bit inconsistent as far as accurate speed goes, so even when I would test a network game out on lan with my desktop, it was slightly jumpy. Not the case with 3.6 now, especially when I enable "Use Alternate Timing" under options. Unfortunately, the hotkeys for savestates still wasn't added in, so I guess we'd need to pester developer Steve Snake a bit more to make sure he gets it in there in his next version, which I assume there will be one soon enough. Since 3.6 made a lot of changes, their is bound to be a minor bug or two that would make the need for another slight revision in the near future. Another thing is, I can't seem to get AVI movie recording to work during netplay since it ends up creating basically a blank .avi file. And the "two controller sharing options for Netplay" isn't really what we were hoping for. But the improved timing on Vista and different hardware configs and, as a result, even smoother netplay is much worth it..... Furthermore, if that bios fix ends up fixing that early desync bug for good, then even better. Though I think putting a random word/number in the box where your SRM file directory should be, in config-genesis tab, which I had some other coaches try, was already a fix for that, which was permanently disabling any s-ram loading
9. some new changes that could be useful: * Rewrote controller code, should fix problems with some USB controllers. * Added two controller sharing options for Netplay. Everybody can now share controller one, or all controllers. The latter isn't very useful, but why not. * Added AVI Logging using custom Kega Game Video 1 lossless codec. This is needed because logging RAW video causes poor performance even on highend machines, and using any of the available codecs either doesn't compress well enough to fix that, or does compress well enough, but can't keep up with 60fps, so you get poor performance either way. The codec is able to use hints from the emulator to aid in compression, allowing pretty good compression while taking very little CPU time. The codec to allow you to play back and convert the files is included in the archive, and can be installed via right clicking on the INI file and telling the OS to continue with the install. Tested on XP and Vista64, should work fine on 9x and Vista32. * Disabled BIOS use where possible during Netplay games, to prevent out of sync errors when people had different combinations of BIOS/NO BIOS/ Different BIOS. * Netplay Games should now automatically change your country code to that of the host. * Kega Fusion now runs beautifully under Vista.
  10. New version! Kega Fusion 3.6 is out! http://www.eidolons-inn.net/tiki-download_....php?fileId=558 Supports AVI recording now it seems.. and he might have added smozoma's request for savestates with hotkeys enabled in netplay. Will report back after I test it out a bit.
  11. Montreal won this 1st round series last year in 6. This year though, Chicago returns the favor GM 1 CHI 5 @ 9 MTL Habs had me the whole game, most of the goals I did get were just garbage goals at the end. Habs made Belfour seem very human, with or without GC. GM 2 CHI 4 @ 3 MTL OT overtime lasted only 10 seconds GM 3 MTL 1 @ 2 CHI GM 4 MTL 2 @ 4 CHI GM 5 CHI 5 @ 6 MTL OT Habs down 4-2 at the start of the third and ends up tying at 5-5 Then overtime lasts only 34 seconds GM 6 MTL 1 @ 5 CHI Series Chicago wins in 6 I probably had an advantage in powerplay every game, except one game with no penalties. Almost half of Habs penalties seemed to be injuries on my players, but I was lucky that they were only out for just the period everytime, from what I can remember. And that didn't help him when that happened, especially when it happens near the end of a period. My team is somewhat balanced, so unless a glitch injury, that never happened before in nhl94 history, takes Eagle out of the game or period... I'm fine with any of my players going out with an injury for 1-4 minutes, to have that 2 minute powerplay. This seems like an advantage not normally thought about, of having a Roy or a Belfour as your 1st round pick. If my 1st round pick was a beast at center like Dino or Modano, instead of Kamensky (who's solid and underrated, but Richer as a backup for him, isn't the worst downgrade in the world) since my center took most of the blows, as usually it seems to.... I would've probably lost this series, also considering the fact I wouldn't have a Belfour or Roy at goal. After the first game, Belfour was denying just about everything. In the games I won, I think his save percentage was probably about 88% in those four games overall. He willed his way for his team to win this series, just like great goalies have done very often in the real NHL. A very good series indeed, lets see if fate leads us to yet another 1st round battle next season. If so, it definitely would be a 7 gamer that time around. I'd bet money on it.
  12. I've had some personal issues the last couple weeks. Was not available to use my PC that much at all this last week till now, with all this family crap taking away from my own time I'm back now... will go online for a bit tonight... longer for tomorrow evening for games.
  13. HFD 9 @ TOR 4 TOR 2 @ HFD 3 ggs guess i got skooled!
  14. I think Ice had this problem before when he enabled the Teamplayer adapter in controller options. If you want to try enabling 4 players in Kega, enable the EA four way play adapter instead. Also, DO NOT enable high priority mode, as this could make some input lag on your controller. Zsnes gave me that problem as well. I must warn though, that the netplay in Kega probably won't work too well with 3 or 4 players, as I don't think it was made for it, but you can give it a shot and report the experience.
  15. Updated my first post a bit, found a fix for an issue that occasionally the game is actually not in sync from the start, where it looks fine for both players in the menu's, until the actual game starts and your opponent starts playing like he's...well...... special. Actually I remember looking at the Kega forums and this fixed netplay for some people with issues. The remedy is to turn off/disable Auto Detect under the Country menu, and make sure only USA has a check mark by it in that menu.
  16. I think its impossible to expect everybody's connection to be perfect 24/7, and not have time periods where they might drops packets/data or have ping spikes. Luckily my DSL has been solid and consistent for me. But Kega can seem to handle these issues of slightly unstable connections better than kaillera it seems for the most part, if not always better. But, yes, there are some players who can have absolutely horrid connections to a point which make the game barely any fun to play online with them. Whether or not it's some software bogging down their pc, firewall, spyware etc., or an isp issue... they should try to take care of it. If its an isp issue they might be out of luck, but it wouldn't hurt to call the isp and complain... It's worth a try even if the chances are they are a big corporation, and they could give less than a damn about a single person's complaint. And they might not care either that they might be the only high speed solution available to you either
  17. Probably because you are too accustomed to playing on gens/kaillera now, rather than playing an actual genesis version! I find when I enable fps display, in the gens emu, and make a game on a kaillera server..... the framerate hovers ABOVE 60.0, at 60.2 at least, and sometimes makes this odd jump to 64 fps (glitch, or another legitimate flaw of the emulator or kaillera?) Weird, cause when i play the game offline in gens, I get a more proper 59.9 fps.....though when i disable sound or a certain sound option, it goes ABOVE 60 fps just like when i play on kaillera, even with all the sound options on! Kega will give you 60.0 normally, but for some reason if you put vsynch on while in windowed mode, it causes it to go above 60.0, kinda like what's forced with kaillera. Besides this instance, Kega will give you a constant, accurate to a REAL genesis timing of 60.0, barring any lag issues online which could drop it of course. THAT'S RIGHT, THE GENS EMULATOR VERSION OF 94 IS FORCED AT AN INACCURATE FPS SPEED WHEN USED WITH KAILLERA! It may seem like such a small difference, but for someone like hokkee who has probably played so many online games with gens, he could notice it, and it may throw him off just a bit. Combine this with the fact that kaillera likes to skip frames, which leads to skipped animations, which could make the game seem faster than it really is as well. EDIT: Rechecked the framerate difference of both the emu's, but relied on fraps instead of the built in emulator fps displays, and it showed 61 fps most of the time for Gens, and 60 for Kega. Again, I think this is one reason nhl94 feels slower to Gens emu vets, but I'm guessing it more has to do with the skipped frames that Gens does. But since Kega doesn't tend to skip frames, it feels like it's slower than it really is.
  18. Ok, I will try to explain exactly what the latency settting is. Latency basically is like ping time. Try starting a network game by yourself, setting the latency really high like 300. You will notice a big delay in button response time from when you press a direction/button and when it registers on screen. Setting it at 0 is exactly the same as playing a rom offline. The number you put this, will be the EXACT timing from when either player inputs a button, to when it will register to both players onscreen. Setting it higher is more passive, lower is more aggressive. The issue if setting it too low, is that if the ping (number in parenthesis before the netplay session starts, pay attention to the number by the client, not the host since that's always 0) , which is the ping in milliseconds between the 2 players, ends up much higher than the latency setting, it can't catch up to the timing of the network game, and both players will experience the fps dropping below 60 and/or experience stutters. Now sometimes a little bit of stuttering can be unavoidable even with a very high latency setting, in that case it's because one or both the players don't have the cleanest connection between each other (because of packet loss, etc.). But Kega still handles these unstable network issues better than kaillera imo. Really no point in setting the latency 2 or more notches higher than the ping. To maybe ensure a 100% non-stutter game, setting it 1 notch higher than the ping would be a very passive setting. A setting to make the most of the the players ping with each other, so you have a very low button response/delay time, and most likely will still be smooth as well, is probably right at or just a notch below the ping of the connection between the 2 players (number in parenthesis). If you find the ping fluctuates up and down a bit, a latency setting of the average ping would probably be good. If the ping is going completely bonkers, like from 70 to 500, one of you is probably having isp issues, or has left their p0rn download running.. It isn't till you set the latency over 100, when the button delay time starts to get a lot more noticeable from my experience. The bandwidth setting (low, med, high) is kinda like the keyframe setting when you play on a kaillera server (good20,excellent30,lan60). I will take a guess than medium is like the excellent setting from the feel of it, maybe better, dunno. It's kinda like how many frames per second the network game is checking for button input, but of course setting it too high can cause instability. It's like an accuracy in how it detects your button presses. Whatever you do, don't set it on low, because that feels like almost like 15 keyframe or lower to me. Low is probably made for slower than 56k connections. High probably would work for 95% of players that have good pings and clean broadband connections to each other. But medium doesn't feel much different, and is probably safest to just use it every time for when you play.
  19. Man I thought you were joking at first that you actually prefer that look...bleh! . Whatever makes you happy I guess But if you prefer smoothed out over grainy, like me, downlaod 2xSaI from this render pack http://www.eidolons-inn.net/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=47 and unzip the files to your Kega directory which allows you to select the 2xSaI renderer.
  20. I want some of us fellow gens players to give Kega Fusion a test run. Main Page Download Link Alternate Link Here are the advantages and disadvantages of using Kega Fusion over Gens/kaillera netplay Advantages: - Pure p2p (like Zsnes) built in the emu, unlike gens kaillera p2p which is basically just a hack, and not made specific for the given emulator - The p2p netplay, runs the game, lag and framerate wise, just about exactly the same on both the host and client side. None of that "well the game ran smooth for me, don't know why it was choppy for you.." kinda stuff that we get with Gens kaillera, even with kaillera p2p! - IF the game does ever lag, it slows the game down for both players, rather than skip massive amounts of frames to keep the speed up. If it slows down often, this means the host should set a higher latency setting, or use the Medium Bandwith setting rather than High. - Like I said before, it NEVER seems to skip frames, thank god! - if it ever does desync, it lets you know RIGHT AWAY. No mystery crap, of when it did, and what the score was *EDIT:(thought this was true at the time, but might not be after all...my mistake if so) - WILL desync much less, or maybe never, if using the medium bandwith setting, and a latency setting, set by the host at a number just under the ping of the client (could maybe go lower even). Great that these settings exist, as it helps ppl who have slightly unstable connections. WILL want to test this out with vocal, that will be the real test since he is having out of synch issues with Gens kaillera P2P - MUCH better sound emulation than Gens - Better, smoother looking video (enable Brighten, and use 2xSaI under render plugin), even with Vsync disabled get 2xSaI from this render pack Here Or this other pack with more filters *these are optional of course - Kega save states are the same format as gens after all, and they work for uploading in leagues already - It seems if the two players DO NOT have the exact same version of the rom, even if it has the same name, it will say "non-matching rom" or something like that. This could fix some desync issues some people have. - So many of us already have hamachi, and no one has had issues with it. Not hard at all to get new players to install and use it. http://www.hamachi.cc Disadvantages - need to use hamachi if you can't open UDP port 5394 - no built in input/video game recorder - Saving states for stats works fine by using the file menu, but the hotkey (f5) for saving is disabled during netplay, but this could possibly be changed through a hex edit? But the hotkey isn't absolutely needed anyways. I would love it if some of you give this a shot and try some exhibitions with me or any others especially. And report back with your experience in this topic. Have used this for 94 before signing up for leagues on this site, playing my brother in California over a year ago. We probably got in 100 games or more, with very minimal lag issues and absolutely no desyncs. When you test it with your opponent, make sure in the emulator, Vsync is off (cause it seems to make the fps not stay EXACTLY at 60), and that the host sets the latency high enough so you don't have slowdown lag. But setting the latency too high can make button response time too slow. Set it at a number as the same as, or 10-25ms under the ping of the client as i said before. You can fool around with the medium and high bandwith setting, but medium for sure should go without any problems. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: To host or connect to a game, you must load the genesis rom first, then go on file, netplay. *Can also load the rom by dragging the actual rom file to Fusion.exe or to the emulator window tv fuzz/snow And I completely forgot about this.... In-game chat with the Tab key! EDIT2: Did a bit more testing.. Optional Settings that could help: - Disable Auto Detect under Country, and make sure USA has a check by it (having Auto Detect disabled, helps with issues where the game is out of synch from the get go, but you don't really notice it till gameplay starts.) -Try not to mess with Sound options, but you can disable sound if you want. -Video options can be configured to your liking, EXCEPT LEAVE VSync DISABLED, please don't have VSync enabled cause when you window the game, the fps goes above 60 -If you have a gray border that annoys you, you can make it black by disabling the border in the set config options. -If any other issues abound, both players should close and restart Fusion.exe
  21. Yah I did kinda figure that before, but I must've thought it could've been the case when it appeared to fix it at first.... Speaking of this anyway, especially since so many in blitz already have hamachi in your league smoz, could we make Kega Fusion p2p be a requirement in blitz in the near future? It's by far the best way to play on-line, since it doesn't have these issues that Gens has. Better netcode, MUCH better sound, and graphics as well. It also does allow saving states in netplay as well, just not by hotkey... It just saves states in a slighty different format. I used it to play my brother in San Jose about a year ago, with me being in Cleveland, and 94 was flawless on it. *Sorry, im going off topic, since this is about Blitz and not GDL hehe.. but it would of course be great for GDL as well!
  22. ok, maybe those settings were a mere coincidence. As it seemed every game i played didn't have that issue, after I made those changes, but the most recent game I just played on scd....the fps issue reared it's ugly head again So, I dunno if it could reduce the amount of times the fps drops, but most likely I probably just happened to be lucky for a little while after I changed those settings. The fps droppage does seem to happen in between events (goals, penalties), during the times the screen goes black, when it does happen. And it also can fix itself during those times. Not sure why that's the case, but it doesn't seem like there is any way to truly fix it (besides messing with your screen window repeatedly..)
  23. I have had fps issues that have arisen in netplay in gens, that would seem to be random. Happens way more often in server kaillera play than p2p. I would always need to adjust my game window to fix it, which is annoying while playing. I think I finally fixed this issue from switching my frameskip setting from auto to 0. I also set my sound to mono, which could also help a bit, since that would be sending half the normal sound info to the server than having it set to stereo would. So try out 0 for frameskip and mono for your sound. I think disabling the auto frameskip is probably the fix, because I think the framerate issue is some bug in the gens emu when using kaillera. It seems to skip frames for no reason at times, unrelated to network lag/speed.
