    Odd NHL logos

Thank you. I learned something today. And habs, I have to concur that the Canucks "V" jerseys were profoundly bad. In fact I think they were the worst uniforms in any major professional sport.
  2. Sometimes I'm puzzled as to certain aspects of logos. Why is there an H in the Canadiens logo? Is it supposed to stand for hockey? Why does the Ottawa Senator have wings? Why does the Blues logo have so many flags (or whatever you call them)? 6 flags, would that be a 256th note? Who in the world made that awful Nordiques logo? Is that supposed to be an igloo chopped in half by a pooper scooper?
  3. Washington?! Oh well, I guess we all have our unlikely affinities. Like how I love to play as Gord Murphy.
  4. I haven't followed the NHL for about 4-5 years now. I used to be a fan, then then the game got extremely slow with the neutral zone trap & not enought good young players to replace the 30-something vets. So, now my interest in NHL 94 is purely an interest in the video game itself. My interest in updated rosters is only so I can have new team dynamics within the video game, not because I particularly want to play as any real-life team. Admittedly, I might be able to get back into hockey if I had the motivation, because they have tried to fix the problems I mentioned, but A) I don't know half of the players anymore B ) The Blues absolutely suck!
  5. Agreed. They may well be #1 & #2 in the game defensively. The problem is, Moog may still allow cupcake goals reguardless of the defense. I usually use Blue, which helps a little, but he's no stud either.
  6. I play auto line-changes penalties on/except offsides The auto line changes lets me play as all the players without the problem of slow game play. I play penalties on because it helps equalize the teams, especially in 1 player. The better, more physical team will generally draw more penalties, making a little tougher to run up the score. No matter what, I can never play with offsides. As I've said before, your computer teammates have absolutely no concept of where the blue line is & that makes the game incredibly frustrating.
  7. I agree with everyone, but Ruutu, who's just a stopgap. Any of the other 5 can beat you on any given game. Here's my list of top tier teams: Chicago - Tremendous first line of overrated players Boston - Amazing & balanced scoring, if their shaky goaltending holds, they're the best. Montreal - Patrick Roy 2nd tier teams detroit - damn speedy team, with a few great first liners. Only thing holding them from top tier: a so-so goalie that doesn't live up to his ratings buf - I still think Mogilny is the best forward. He has enough compliments to make a potent scoring attack. But to answer the question, I don't think any team is unfairly good. Any tier 3 team can knock off any tier 1 team, when they are fairly better played.
  8. My record is 149. I didn't go out really trying to set the record, I set it back in the early days & haven't touched it since, but I did get 147 in a recent 40 goal game. I think goals help more than anything for the really rediculously high crowd levels.
  9. I agree with the line changes, but not with the offsides. The computer is absolutely retarded in staying onsides. A game with offsides on becomes a game of tag in between the blue lines while waiting for the stupid computer to get back onside.
  10. Wow, I can't believe this wasn't on the bug list. Yes, I've seen the Stanley Cup bug many times.
  11. Wow. What a Christmas eve post. Rehashing a thread to take another cheap shot at someone. Cyber, you have reconfirmed that you are the king of class on these boards.
  12. What about Sweeney, Gord Murphy & Mogilny? I think what makes a good checker may be acceleration and agility to quickly change direction and get to the puck carrier. That's why you can go around with guys like Mogilny & level 3 or 4 guys in row.
  13. Has anyone worked on the formula the game uses to calculate each player's overall rating? I've messed around with it a little bit & it seems that each individual attribute point (not counting weight, handedness & the zero value) seems contribute roughly 1 2/3 of an overall point, but it seems that some attributes are weighted more than others. Has anyone else done any work on this?
  14. I would be interested in a sped up game hack.
  15. Clifto, to my knowledge there no one that has accomplished anything on your list yet. When hacking the ROM, it is easy to change static information (player names, graphical sprites, etc.). It is very difficult to affect the way the ROM or gameplay operates & nearly impossible to actually add operable code. So, since most things on your list are gameplay variations, I doubt we'll see most of them. Blood, however, should be easy to add. All you need is a graphic editor & you can find the sprites & add blood manually to the injury sprites. Your graphic hack is also doable, but would be more involved because of the scale. You would have to edit a lot a lot of tiles. It wouldn't be hard work, but it would take a while.
  16. I have never attempted it, but I would assume it would be a little difficult. It's not as easy as copying graphics, you would have to find the part of the code that determines if the glass breaks & since its fairly rare, it is hard to recreate & thus isolate. If you were lucky enough to change the right part of code, it would take a lot of testing to determine whether it worked.
  17. Thanks wboy. I'll have to try it with a dynamic array. I haven't used dynamic arrays yet (I'm kind of a programming noob). The program will only manipulate player names and attributes, & will also read (but not alter) team names.
  18. I'm working on a C++ program to manipulate NHL94. I'm having trouble reading the NHL94.bin file. Right now I am reading the file to a string (eventually I will read it to a vector array, but that is down the road), but the program stops reading when the pointer reaches a '1A' value in the file. Is there a workaround for this, or is there a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?
  19. I would also be very interested if this can be done. I think I started a topic a while ago, but no one knew how to do it.
  20. http://www.edgeemu.com has virtually every pre-32 bit rom known to man. There are catches though 1. You have to set up a user name (doesn't cost anything) 2. Last time I went there, there were pop-ups galore & even spyware programs. I suggest a pop-up blocker (some blockers will block access to the actual downloads, but the firefox one works fine) AND ad-aware. http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ PS - Click on the ROMS icon that looks like a SNES icon at the TOP of the page, not the other links throughout the page. They are mostly advertisements.
  21. so basically, if i have the genesis game, there is absolutely no reason to play it on nhl2006, unless I want to play with stupid fake names. Am I right? You could hack it to edit the names, but what's the advantage to hacking a regular rom?
  22. Just as a small nitpick to the list. I wish they would have put Mutant League Football on there. Any other Mutant League fans out there?
  23. That was a very good list. I agree with almost all the victories in the bracket, unfortunately the 3 best all ended up on one side of the bracket. It's unfortunate RBI had to get knocked off by the champ in the 2nd round.
