  1. Not that I liked either 06 or 07 too much... But seeing as 2k has implemented a feature (skill stick) that EA uses for the third year and they are like "wow, look what we can do", well I'm not impressed at all from what little I've seen of 2k8. A bit curious (more suspicious though) about 08 though, has some interesting stuff in it.

  2. The new games sound so boring with their wimpy "oh, sorry good sir" checks.

What about the NHL '95 board/bench (at least bench) check sounds!? Haha.. They're terrific! :amazing: Sounds like you hit an oil barrel with a crowbar or something... A tad of ironi there.

PS: you really should shrink the font on your "If you wanna play im me" signature. It's obnoxiously large. I'm tryin'ta read here!

    Seconded.

  3. To be honest, and no need to flame me (wearing a flame retardant bunny suit), the sound is what I dislike the most with Genesis '94. Sure I get the nostalgia feel when playing EA Hockey, but I mean, it is a lot older and is therefore allowed to have worse sound but when '94 still has the same sounds, well... Especially when the SNES '94 on the other hand has some of the coolest (wow, caution alert, incoming baseball bats and throwing stars) sound effects for the 9x games imho.

The Genesis intro however is bloody awesome. But the sound effects, sorry, can't stand them. :amazing: Boy do I know how to make friends... ^_^

  4. Yeah I tried making 2on2 as well but found it to boring as it really lacked passing options for one timers and it just wasn't fun, you need that extra player to get flow imo. I bet 2on2 can be fun too though.

It takes like.. A minute? It's a matter of two bytes per team if you only edit the "Best Line" so it's insanely simple actually.

There are seven bytes per line: G, LD, RD, LW, C, RW, X (extra attacker, and the L and R might be the other way, but basically this is how it is). Each byte defines "who" in the lineup to be at which spot. So all you need to do is put 00 (two zeros) at the place of whoever you wanna remove.

As for 2on5, I already have that for all teams actually! :amazing: So there's one rom per team. As there's one for Anaheim, where the Ducks only have 2 players while all other teams have 5, that's why there has to be a separate rom for each team. I made it as an attempt of making the game harder but it's sadly to easy even with two players, at some times it's actually easier as you don't get ANY passes going to the wrong player.

I noticed I have a 0on5 rom as well.. I think I just fooled around to see what only playing as a goalie would be like.

  5. Geez.. Don't take it personal, or did you do those box covers? In that case I apologize. I've used Premiere for like what, 3-4 hours and pretty much just put some clips together that I had been saving for awhile, added some music and transitions. Sorry if it wasn't good enough. :D Detroit is also trying to get their hands on Forsberg, and they've already got seven Swedish players :( Not that I get why you started ranting about Swedish players, all I said was that I didn't like the appearance of two pictures (too rough language?) and some uniforms. Oh well. Cheers!

  6. I've only played against Fenty (well one game against Fat something) and I recall the games being pretty even, at that time I had barely played against friends. I probably won 30-40% of the games. Correct me if I'm wrong, Fenty. Considering Fenty was the runner up in one of the tournaments/seasons or what you call it, and the fact that I have played a couple of hundred games against a friend of mine since then, I'd say I "should" have a good chance of beating some people... But who knows, I might not stand a chance. Not really sure why I haven't played online more, I guess I just don't think it's as fun as playing someone IRL. I rather play first person shooters when it comes to online playing. Well I'm sorry that I couldn't contribute on saying who I think is the best as I've only had two opponents online (and sorry for over using "I" haha).

  7. I have all player names (with stats and all that stuff) in an Excel sheet and calculated what each players G/A/P/PIM would be if he had played a full 82 game season. And then made up a scale to which should get high -> low stats in passing/shooting etc. Only included people who had played over 19 games into this though. To avoid getting a player that scored in his only nhl game getting to good stats. Maybe not the best way to go at it but I thought it was kinda neat.

  8. Norton is pretty much PC AIDS. Get rid of that crap.

AVG - good and free. Kaspersky is probably the best one. I myself use NOD32. I completely hate Norton, it just bloat windows and slow down startup and everything, can't stand it. Haven't used Kaspersky in a pair of years probably, but I thought it was really decent even back then, but like I said, people that I've spoken to that knows about this s**t says it is one of the best atm.

  9. Playing with one hand could be as easy as controlling direction with the D-pad and pass/shoot with L1/L2, but I doubt that was what he did :P

On topic though: I lose to the cpu once in awhile, the Snes ai can get insane games from time to time. I never go for those "cheap" goals against the cpu though if that can be called an excuse. According to my season stats I haven't got a loss in ~120 games (not really sure which I have played though, I might have lost some of the games with the poor teams, though I "sim" most of those games). Maybe I lose 1 per 100 games or so.

I remember once, a player on the cpu team scored a hat trick, when I was playing with Detroit, at that point I was down 0-3 :( I was like, wtf... Seriously nothing worked! :P I got so mad I shut down the game... lol.

Apart from that time I get some close games now and then, but that's just fun. Like I said, I try not to make any cheap goals. Maybe a few nice breakaway goals and fat one timers. Awesome goals ftw. Cross creasing @ cpu is just plain pointless imo.

  10. Oh! Awesome, DaDonch! Haven't tried it yet though. But I have close to 400 save states that I've used with my season tool (unreleased) so that'll put it to the test I guess. Quite excited to try it out.

edit: Certainly nice that you can import whole folders! Looks really cool. I thought the "PPG" might have a bug in it but realized it was Points Per Game, assumed it was Power Play Goals at first.. Heh. It seems to work really well. I'll have to play around with it more.

  11. Top:

    1. Detroit
    2. Pittsburgh
    3. Calgary
    4. Quebec
    5. Los Angeles

    Bottom:

    1. Ottawa
    2. Anaheim
    3. Hartford
    4. Florida (at least away, I actually manage pretty well at home)
    5. Tampa Bay

People might wanna see San Jose at the bottom, but they are actually quite good, it's just Kisio that has really poor puck receiving most of the time. And like Florida, Sharks are far better at home than away. Regarding Pittsburgh, I understand they aren't that great on Genesis? They sure are my worst possible opponent, that's for sure and they are definitely top 5 to play with as well.

Needless to say, this list concerns Super NES.

  12. DaDonch: Oh really? That's not what I've been told, well it's the same, but you left out one part :)

Remember, children, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people.

Anyway.. Yeah that sounds about right, that he might have saved to late. I think I've seen this "Anaheim vs Anaheim" sometimes when I've been save game hacking. Other than that, check that you're using the correct rom.

  13. Sounds like a typical "lag" issue. I haven't been playing NHL '94 that much online so I can't say much about it, it was quite some time ago by now. But it doesn't sound strange to me at all. It's probably just some "correction" that occurs, one side predict one event happening, but when it doesn't nothing happens. Of course this is just a guess, but anyway.

If you're really curious you might ask on the zsnes forums (or #zsnes @ EFnet). :)

  14. I like the Baseball Stars and Tecmo Bowl calls.

I think NES Ice Hockey belongs on this list as well... how can you deny fat guy, medium guy, skinny guy?

I for one favor Ice Hockey, though it feels like Blades of Steel is the more common choice. But Ice Hockey just has such awesome charm! I haven't played Mutant League Hockey much, but the few times I've played it I've had fun.

My guess on "a game that comes close" would be a Madden game, but I don't play them myself so I don't know (well I played the one on "EA Double Header" but that's it).

  15. NES - 2 fully functional units and 2 that I keep for spare parts.. 1 of them's modded to get rid of regional limitations (and some 100+ games).

N64 - 2 games, never used it (quickly realized how much fps games actually sucked on consoles, bought it because of Golden Eye).

PS2 - w/ 250gb HDD.. Wow those loading times sure got cut in half (and then some).

Other than that I've owned a Sega Saturn and a Sega Mega Drive but they're both gone...

Guess I have a pair of Game & Watch somewhere as well (Oil Panic and Octopus). Nostalgic note: Damn Donkey Kong Jr. was great...

I sure want a Super NES, but only if I could get hold of one of them flash units that you can fill with roms (aah, hacked roms).

    Great thread. :D

  16. Oh.. Awesome that you share! Not sure if anyone here is too familiar with C++ though. I have studied it in school and made some very simple Half-Life modding, but I hardly remember any of it and were never any good...

wboy uses VB, and I think DaDonch does as well. Let's see what happens. Can anyone post screens from it? Seeing as some have already downloaded it. :)

  17. I've never owned a Super Nintendo unfortunately, which is the system I prefer to play NHL '94 on. Back in 94-95 there was a friend who had it though and that's when I got hooked. Guess I got back to it somehow when emulators started spreading over the web like a wild fire (2000:ish?).

I have however owned a Sega Mega Drive back in the days, which sadly broke and by that time (around '97 I think) I had a Sega Saturn already so I didn't bother fixing it or getting a new one... I never had NHL '94 for it, but I did have Elitserien '95 and NHL '96 (I'm Swedish, and so is Elitserien, Swedish Elite Leauge) and I also had EA Double Header which included EA Hockey (and some Madden game).

Really liked all of them in their own way.
