  1. This was not my moment, but I did witness the event. I was watching a game between my two roommates back ijn college (this was about 10 years ago). The game was Buffalo at Boston, and my roommate who used Boston was the best NHL player I knew. He rarely lost with Boston. Anyway, he was up 4-1 in the third with a minute left. My other friend (using Buffalo) scored 4 goals in 34 seconds. I have yet to see this record eclipsed even against the computer. Needless to say, all of us watching were dumbfounded and in shock. What a demoralizing loss. It was a classic moment.

  2. Im sure most of you guys have seen this but that would work really cool in other game systems due to the fact that you can get controller adapters and stuff.  Either way, That's the best controller design ever, heh.

Here is an adapter that lets you use PS2 controllers in a Gamecube

I received two of those via UPS earlier today. Needless to say, they rock! I ordered them from www.play-asia.com. That site seems to be better organized.

  3. For the past couple years, I have been a moderator on board devoted to EA's NCAA Football series. This is a site that was founded by and populated by rabid fans of the NCAA games. Our board admins (past and present) have worked for the past three years to get an "in" with EA's development team by presenting them with "wish lists", suggestions, etc. The farthest we have gotten is that they sent one admin a copy of Madden two weeks before release last year (big deal).

What I am trying to say is I think its a huge uphill battle. I don't believe that EA really doesn't care what their fans want, from what I have seen. They only care what their marketing department thinks will sell. They probably view those of us that play '94 still as a group of dinosaurs who cannot possible make a stand alone version of updated '94 worth the costs of development. Also, they released the collector's edition of Madden last year on PS2 with some of the classic Genesis versions (they were not online capable) for the Madden 10-year anniversary. Since this time has already passed on the NHL series, I doubt they really have any plans to do likewise for NHL.

I'm not trying to rain on the parade, because I think its a great idea. I just don't think anyone at EA will listen.

  4. As far as I know, we can't burn the ROM version and play it on SegaCD.  What you could do is find out how to burn a CD of ROM's to play on Dreamcast, Xbox, and most of the newer systems.  I had a CD of Genesis and Nintendo ROM's that played on a Dreamcast.  I don't know how the person who gave it to me accomplished this, though I'm sure you can find it somewhere.

I have seen that, but I'd need to mod my XBox to accomplish that. Once I do that, I cannot do XBox Live anymore. I may just take an older computer and turn it into a emulator/game system.

  5. my favourite goalie move, and its one i've been using more and more lately, is when the other team is on a breakaway, I pull my goalie a bit back towards my net, and then full steam skate towards the player and push the dive button.  Essentially, if you aim correctly, they are totally unprepared for it and the player will either lose control of the puck or fall down, or both.  Of course it is risky, but its a lot of fun... Its like a full body pokecheck.

Ha ha ha! I use the goalie dive all the time. Its usually a great way to rattle the opponent especially if you limit its use.

  6. My best moment was back in the first year the game came out. One of my friends was talking trash about how great he was and I challenged him to a game. He always took Chicago and I took San Jose (@ home) and told him I'd win. I beat him 1-0 in front of about 8 of our friends. He never heard the end of it. It was my greatest win and I remember it as if it was yesterday. Pat Faloon scored the only goal.

  7. I try to take manual on all breakaways, but I also like to use manual when I feel that the shot is an automatic goal otherwise. Sometimes I'll use manual to defend a potential one-timer. Stopping a one-timer manually always pumps me up! Also, I have been known to use to goalie to check a puck carrier behind the net. This only works when they cannot possibly skate or pass the other direction. When it works, its golden. Anyway, I love the lower rated goalies for all these moves because the others are way too out of control. When I use Roy or Belfour, I try not to use manual as much.

  8. dineen is one of those players that NO one knows is a 99 speed... you can put him in there and people are like who the heck is that guy flying down the wing?

You got that right! The only problem with Dineen is that he has no shot power and falls down very easily. But, he's also a great stickhandler so he's great on breakaways.

  9. yeah sweeney is pretty good from a defensive standpoint, but honestly, who would you rather have on your team, him or bourque???

I am kinda in shock that you've played thousands of games against someone who has consistently used boston... i just can't get into the groove with them, neely is useless to me, oates is decent, and their goaltending is atrocious.  Them and pittsburgh are the most overrated teams imo.

With Bourque vs. Sweeney, its clear that you want Bourque. He's good on D and great on O. Sweeny is only great on D and horrible on O. As for my buddy who always used Boston, he hated Juneau and the goalies with an passion. I have never seen anyone change goalies as quickly and as often as he does. :P But, he always made it work with the lackluster forwards. He always played well with Oates and he'd substitute Dimitri Kvartalnov for either Juneau or Nealy (whoever sucked more in that particular game).

As for me, I've probably used the Flyers for almost every one of those games against him. The only starter on the Flyers that start for me is Mark Recchi (at RW). I use Pelle Eklund or Keith Acton at Center, Recchi and either Acton or Kevin Dineen on the wings. Starting Defense for me is Greg Hawgood and Gord Hynes (most underrated checker on the game). Staring Goalie is either Beauregard or Rousell. The Flyers default lineup is horrible. I only used Lindros when I wanted to taunt someone since he falls down any time he gets hit.

  10. haha you make me laugh... we will whoop you back to the stone age my friend.

    sweeney better than bourque... yikes!

housley is awesome, at least you know something!

In the past 12 years of playing this game, I have played probably thousands of games against my buddy who almost always used the Bruins. There is no one player on that team I feared more when I carried the puck into the offensive zone than Don Sweeney. The man cannot do anything on offense, but I believe that he is the best checking defenseman on the game.

  11. Has anyone else noticed the propensity for the lowest rated goalies to be the best performers on user-controlled teams? I use manual goalie a lot in user-user games and I find the my best results are with the scrub goalies rated in the 40s. Three examples that come to mind are Stephane Beauregard, PHI; J.C. Bergeron, TB; and Frank Pietrangelo, HFD. I think its because faster goalies are harder to control in manual mode, but I am not sure. Anyone else notice this?
