  1. Is there a good reason why we couldn't have everyone leave their top 6 forwards, top 4 defense, and 2 goalies ahead of the draft? This way, if someone doesn't pick in their assigned slot, they just get their top pick on their list? You would just need to leave your preferred order of positions to pick (ie: F, F, D, F,.....G). We are already doing this to a degree once the draft has started, and I don't see a good reason why we couldn't do it for the whole draft. Sure some guys would complain, but it would be their own fault for missing their pick. This could really speed up the draft, which drags on way too much.

    * Have the end of draft, preseason, season schedule SET.

We really need a hardass commish to enforce this though.

  2. I'm in agreement.

You can mute the sound for any group.

Thirded. I sign off of AIM whenever the Gens one starts turning into random rambling that has nothing to do with me. I don't know if there's a way to shut off notifications from a group message but it would be a godsend.

I think this is only if you install their crappy app though? I haven't found a way to turn a group through my browser, which would be great.

  3. 1. Switching goalies for the fun of it is not a good reason to f**k up the goalie stats in every league. In the end you can use your manual goalie so there virtually is no reason to switch.

    )

Why don't we just correct the GAA stat on the website instead? The game already tracks the minutes played, so it's a very simple correction.

  4. Thought this day would never come but it's official..... the man, the myth, the legend has returned after a 2 year absence. Please give him a warm welcome home hug.

Level-wise he has a way to go before he

reaches his old form, but he was better than expected in his first day back. Will definitely make some serious waves in classic so lookout! Goalie control is very solid and he's still (after all this time) deadly in close.

He completely demolished me in some exis last night. If that wasn't his A game, he's going to be scary.

  5. It's the wiggling sausage on top of a Captain Picard that really grabs everyone's attention walking by my office w/ the 42 " monitor I use!!

I'm all for a sausage being grilled, in a bun, chopped in a skillet, but anti sausage parties and sausages on dude's heads.

If you're worried about getting caught surfing the net at work I'll change it, but you have to ask nicely (-:

  6. There really is no secret to the straight pass shot. If you are shooting up, hold the directional pad up and press B. That should work, assuming no other players are around to avoid inadvertently passing the puck instead of firing it up.

To make it effective, you need to lineup the puck to the post edges of the net. Again, that's just visual practice.

To make it even more effective, you should deke (similarly to a normal deke move) to get the goalie moving one direction, deke the other way and pass shoot when the puck is lined up.

Best to practice on shootouts and if you're missing the net, watch the replay, take note of where the puck is on the ice (use the circles, or other markers), and adjust on the next shot.

Adapting the pass shot during play is not a teachable skill. Just like I can tell you how to take a slapshot, it's up to you to incorporate that tool into your game and understand when it may be a good idea to attempt one or not.

I find that people who learn the pass shot have a strong tendency early on to OVER use the shot. It's not a surefire way to score and it's not always the best option!

Thanks for your insight as usual! Yeah, it's the deke part that gets me. I've never been able to time it right, and half the time I shoot the puck into the corner. I'd just like to add a few more things to my toolbox, as I'm fairly predictable. Now, if I could setup the one timers at will like you do, I'd really be set!

  7. I'm almost sorry.

I needed a name to use to play onlag with the cool kids so I formed that one. I've been using a proxy, but I guess I can skip that step now that Honkee has outed me. Kaberle was a Bruin or had just been one and if I remember correctly, my thinking at the time related more to an in-game (hacked) player rating and something like an "I'm so good I make Kaberle into a star -- he's a 93 overall" posture. I think I used the line once and drifted off into a new personality. I even logged my other computer on to argue with myself on the boards to make the character seem real. then it was about logging in everywhere as a character. eventually it became meaningless. it hurts to think about and it feels good to come clean.

    it wasn't worth it.

I can confirm. I wrote this post as well.

  8. With the community here I am just curious if there are any other playing strategy board games on iOS. If so, post here with your info and maybe we can get an NHL94 forum game going. I play the following:

    Carcassone

    Cataan

    Le Havre

    Brief History of the World

    Galaxy Trucker

    Tigris and Euphrates

I occasionally play Carcassone and Galaxy Trucker. I play Ticket to Ride more regularly.

  9. I think this is the perfect way of doing it. I've been playing around with a rom to test the different attributes, where basically I'm picking one attribute to tweak at a time, then simulating games where the teams have opposite values. I've only played around with aggression so far far, but I test anything else that we aren't sure about. There seems to be some disagreement on this site about whether or not certain attributes do anything.

One other idea would be to limit certain attributes, so that the game feels more like old time hockey. You mentioned limiting the range from 1-5, but it might be worth considering limiting it even more. I don't think the players could fire a puck that hard back in the 60s, at least before Hull came up with the banana blade. Those old tube skates probably made it harder to stop on a dime as well, so agility might be worth reducing also.

I'm not sure if I'd like that idea, as I like more variety in the players, but that's just another thing to consider.
