If ya never heard of a shadow box or diorama:
I'm thinking of doing The Rangers and Canucks, with the full rink with the poster size 36" x 24":
Thinking about putting the '94 logo from the box at center ice, super imposed in a 3d style, and doing some custom sprites with the cup and the crowd.
Appreciate any input / advice.
Will def post pics when I'm done with the whole thing in 2033.

@aqualizard what did you do to figure this out?
Sounds like my situation is similar looking at your post. Moving from 1.7.9 to 1.8.5, I still have the same issue that sounds like what you experienced.

They were like two warring tribes of isolated peoples, untouched by the civilized world, at one point in history.
Visually the games are similar, but there are some pretty big differences in sprites and menus. Some differences in game play as well.
If you have the latest version of Retroarch from this site, you should be able to load the SNES core and the original rom file to see for yourself.

Nice to see you back again.
Don't think you can get a wired connection with a tablet but that doesn't seem to bother most people who play (except for when they score against the people they're playing.)
