Yes, I practiced with a fight stick as a gag for a review many years ago. I used it in Gens and it was completely unplayable.

Maybe RA would give a better experience.

ya i feel like if i actually played someone with it, id get whooped. but it was just a idea. i thought maybe being able to feel the inputs would make it feel more precise than thumbin around on a pad. and even if thats true,  i bet it has its disadvantages as well

The final burn neo core is available on RetroArch too.

Also, the Genesis Plus GX and SNES9x core supports 4 players, netplay supports spectator mode, hot swapping of player positions. If there's a problem hosting, someone else can host the game, go into spectator mode, and the 2 people can join and play each other.

I'm up for trying something new, just don't like you can't do custom roms on there (I wonder why they would do that). The interface is really nice though.

does the final burn neo core run custom roms in retro arch?

I remember Fightcade not being able to run custom roms, which I thought was weird.

ya youre right, i didnt realize.  i just tried to play 2v2 in the finalburnneo emulator and i couldnt seem to get it to recognize it. it just wouldnt show up even though the rom was in the directory.

but on the fightcade site it does say:

    "

Is it possible to add <insert your favourite game here>?

If the game is supported in the version of FBA bundled with FightCade then yes, otherwise no. "

  4. So i have mentioned fightcade on here before. they now have a new beta for the fightcade 2 and it is AMAZING. primarily built for the fighting game community but it also has potential for any kind of game. a full collection of genesis games and snes games, among other systems is automatically downloadable.

the reason this could be big for the nhl94 community is because it has the opportunity of being very user friendly allowing a single room to meet when looking for games and spectating. but the biggest thing is it has a run-ahead feature that makes the input delay practically nonexistent. in netplay emulation i have never experienced as smooth a gameplay experience and id be very curious to see how this works for 94 gens and maybe snes. its still in beta but i believe this has immense potential. Ill post some pics and links so you guys can try it out if you wish.

i dont know much about 94 on retroarch, if Retroarch uses run ahead feature online then this might be all unnecessary, but i would like you guys to judge for yourselfs.

havent figured out 2v2 yet but i do believe it would be possible

here are some links to get started if you wish. its very easy to set up.

Fightcade 2 beta download: Fightcade 2 beta

Guide to getting fightcade 2 up and running: Here

i believe the name for this will be fightcade neo because it uses final burn neo emulator. it also uses ggpo.

any question feel free to ask me and ill help in anyway i can.

EDIT: i put this in gens emulation and that was a mistake because this can be use for snes too, so maybe a mod/admin would like to move this to a more appropriate place on the forums
EDIT2: also is my download link doesnt work, try the one in the guide.
EDIT3: the snes roms dont have the run ahead feature because its a different emulator so that might not be viable after all

You probably know this, but just in case: you don't need hamachi to do 4 player on kaillera, since it's server-based (hamachi is for establishing p2p connections without everyone taking the time to learn how to do port-forwarding in their routers like real men :P).

smoz ya gotta give me more credit than that.. of course i know that :-P

  6. So, for people who do not know what fightcade is, here is the google definition of it.. "Fightcade is a matchmaking client that includes an emulator and allows people to play each other online using the very well respected GGPO netcode. ... GGPO used to be a service like Fightcade, but now it is just a great rollback netcode."

Its a goto for people who want to play classic arcade games (i.e. street fighter, kof, mvc, metal slug) on their pc. Its not unlike kaillera but has one major advantage, its netcode. Kaillera uses a delay based netcode where as fightcade uses a "rollback" type netcode. I can say from years of experience this "rollback netcode" aka GGPO is a MUCH more favorable experience compared to something like kaillera. This is my opinion of course, but there actually is a great deal of evidence supporting GGPO as a superior netcode. If you wish to learn more about GGPO netcode you can check out the video at the bottom of this post.

About this time you may be asking, "what the hell does this have to do with 94?" Perhaps nothing, perhaps a great deal. The Beta for Fightcade2 has just been released and has added Sega Genesis BIOS files to the emulator (final burn alpha). Anybody with a Fightcade account from 2016 or before can check out the fightcade2 beta right now and it has a room available for NHL '94. Now, a lot still remains to be seen on how practical this can be. It doesn't use the standard .bin rom we've always used and the rom it does use I haven't been able to find yet. But I did get the chance to play other genesis games and they all played just fine.

In conclusion, I think this is something the NHL '94 community can benefit from. It could make match making for exhibs easier, it could allow players across greater distances to have better connections. It can allow an unlimited amount of spectators on live matches that don't connect to the actual match so has no bearing on ping or lag. And perhaps fightcade's best feature is that it records ALL matches.

I want to hear what you guys think. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer. Also, go check out www.fightcade.com

EDIT: I did find the nhl94 FBA rom and it plays perfect offline. you can find DL the rom here: http://www.gametronik.com/site/download/FBA_MD/NHL%20%2794/roms/nhl94.zip

  7. Is there a way to change my nickname just for the nhl94 discord server? For all the fighting games I play I'm known as "locusT_", ideally id like it to say "donnybrook" just for the nhl94 server. I noticed in some servers it gives you the option to change nickname but its not present on the 94 server.  Is there maybe a way the admins can do it maybe?
