  1. Now you just need Vince Vaughan and Wayne Gretzky to sign it, and an NHLPA '93 cartridge, and you're money. You're so money and you don't even know it.
  2. Did all your hair turn white after you saw him?
  3. First team to celebrate like in Blades of Steel becomes my new favourite.
  4. I bought a copy of this game in the 99 cent bin about 15 years go. It is awful. The most entertaining part of the game is reading the scrolling text under the scoreboard that pops up after every f**king stoppage in play. Its only feature is that it had NHL rosters. One time I played a 20-minute period game to see if I could make it through, which is particularly bad because they have actual seconds on the time clock in this game. It was the worst day of my life.
  5. And then what? Start Winter Classic in June '11?
  6. Going to private school is more representative of how much money your parents have than how smart you are.

  8. Read this this morning on Puck Daddy. They give a link to this site. Credit to Wysh on this one (who I think wanted to interview Jesus, but Jesus wouldn't "sellout") Kamloops Blazers celebrating wins with EA Sports 'NHL 94' tribute By Greg Wyshynski Goaltender Cam Lanigan of the Kamloops Blazers, a Western Hockey League team, was less than a year old when EA Sports released "NHL 94," the classic hockey video game that still has a cult following today. One day, he was playing his old Super Nintendo when it struck him how ridiculous one aspect of the game truly was: The player celebrations. Those awkward, stiff robotic moments of group choreography that occurred after a goal or a victory. "Everyone just stopped and threw their sticks over their heads, and I thought it was the funniest thing ever," Lanigan told Kamloops This Week. So funny, in fact, that Lanigan decided to pay tribute to the "NHL 94" stick raise ... by getting his teammates to reenact the video game celebrations after Blazers' wins. From Kamloops This Week: On Tuesday, Nov. 23, it became clear the celebration had caught on when, after a long video review in overtime, Dalibor Bortnak was ruled to have scored a game-winning goal against the Regina Pats. "That one game where we had the video review on the OT goal, I just walked around and said ‘If we win, we're doing it right now," Underwood said. The red light turned on - a roster-full of hands bolted toward the Interior Savings Centre's ceiling. Even German-born Bernhard Keil joined in, although his teammates are not convinced he knows exactly what's going on. "He thinks it's just a standard Canadian celebration," JT Barnett joked after practice. Yep, the Blazers are entering a video game after wins. It's just like "TRON Legacy," but with 100-percent less Daft Punk. Blazers defenseman Brandon Underwood said there have been some "chuckles around the League" about the EA Sports-inspired victory celebration ... but honestly, how cool is this? We think Kamloops should take it to the next level and go all-in for NHL 94 references. Like only scoring with a deke move or a one-timer. Or having the arena DJ play low-fi digitized versions of arena staples like "Brass Bonanza" during games. Bottom line: The Colorado Avalanche's "Bang Bang Dance" suddenly has company for best new postgame celebration this season. We can only hope this means other WHL teams will adopt video game memes for themselves. C'mon Kootenay Ice: Say "with the pass!" after every successful offensive reception, like in "Blades of Steel." And is there any reason the Chilliwack Bruins shouldn't roll out a skinny, medium, fat, fat unit during 4-on-4 play ala Nintendo "Ice Hockey"? Stick-tap to Tyler O. for the story.
  9. After the trades last year, some might argue they are the same team.
  10. Phil really showed his skating skills in OT last night. Stumbling while backchecking on the sudden death rush is a skill, right?
  11. This guy was a huge character in my childhood. Whether the score was 5-0 or 0-5 Burns was a rock behind the bench, and his players loved him for it. We all knew this was coming, but it's shitty nonetheless. I'll save my gripes with the H.O.F. committee for another day. I drank a few to Burnsie tonight; I recommend everyone else do the same.

    Fighting

NHL '98 is basically a carbon copy of NHL'97, which is in turn a carbon copy of NHL '96, so he gets a pass on this one. At least for SEGA. If I had to guess, I've probably played at least 1,500 games each on '96 and '98 for SEGA in my life, and I can say with confidence that -Only certain players can fight -You cannot fight in the first period -Fights are initiated when two of the "chosen ones" make contact with each other (although this is not automatic). -Derian Hatcher is the worst fighter in the game Mind you, I've never played '97, so for all I know they could've turned it off randomly for one year. Which would be really dumb, and I can't imagine EA would ever get rid of fighting in the NHL series even though everybody loves it... My suggestion would be to wait until the second period. When there's a face-off with a goon forward on the other team, line up one of your goons opposite to him. Win the face-off to that side. Wait for fireworks. FUN FACT: if you pull the other guy's jersey enough times you will pull him to the ice, and then you can wail on his kidney while he's down. Alright my essay is done.
  13. I thought this was just another one of the Bruins' funny promo videos, but I was wrong. http://www.torontosun.com/sports/hockey/2010/11/17/16191926.html She paid up. Good. Stupid drunk masshole. In other news, I didn't know the mascot was Italian...
  14. Almost as stupid as having half of the Canadiens and a couple Bulldogs on the 1st team in '09. Apparently the NHL picks the pool of players, so I guess no Biznasty this year. Huge blow to Carolina's homeless. But yeah, ditto on the all-star game sucking. I think the last time I watched an all-star game the puck was glowing. Ten bucks says they get better ratings for the captain's selections than the actual game. Maybe they'll use the same Comfort Inn they held the Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes at.
  15. You are forgiven in the name of the Ron Barr, the Jeremy Roenick, and the Mark Lesser, amen.

  17. Smoz, I'm assuming you watched Habs @ Leafs, right? Was the pre-game ceremony not the gayest opening of all time?
  18. WOOOOO 1-0 BABY PLAN THE PARADE
  19. Only complete morons would willingly go to Buffalo. On that note, I went to Buffalo on Sunday to watch the Dolphins beat the Bills. Go fish. The Bills looked about as good as their female fans. Also on that note, I've travelled 2 hours to London for a road hockey tournament, so hell yeah I'd travel 2 hours to (fail to) dangle some USA '94 dusters. Mind you, I think last year someone floated around the idea of a NHL '94 tourney in Montreal for money, but that fell through the cracks. Those living in the West should have a summit of their own so they can see Hokkee after a dozen Kokanee Golds.
  20. You can go to college and get your little pfd or whatever the f**k it's called, I don't care.
  21. Jesus' NHL94 commercial is in a Puck Daddy post today. Twice in one week, eh? Wysh has a serious boner for Clock.
  22. He used to do play-by-play for the Toronto Blue Jays. He now spends his time being not-Bob Cole.
