  1. I think it would be a great idea for everyone. AOL is fine, but it would be amazing if the group could put together a "lobby" where everyone could see who is signed in and ready to play. I've been toying with google+ hangouts, to see if they would be appropriate. Would be nice to have something that integrated into the boards - or at least didn't require another user/password though. Hangouts have everything we would need, and allow for screensharing - meaning that you could broadcast games (a decent stream). Would be a great time to get in league games, greet and help new recruits, perhaps make league decisions etc... If not weekly, then at least on a regular monthly date (eg. 1st Thursday of the month). Any other ideas? Cheers, Jer
  2. I've been collecting the actual salaries of players from 1993-94, though I'm hoping the web admin will put it into a spreadsheet for easy cross-reference. Would anyone be interested in a salary cap league with the real salaries?
  3. http://www.aim.com/import-to-gmail/ Not sure if it's been mentioned in a previous thread, but for those that aren't regular AIM users, you can bring all of the NHL94 users into GmailChat/Google+. Cheers, Jer
  4. Do you have an NHL94 routine? I no longer have a gaming PC, and have been using my laptop to play NHL94. It's been a real pain in the arse to switch off the wireless, plug in the network cable (running from the kitchen) - but you gotta do what you gotta do. Gotta shut down all unnecessary programs, fire up the ones you need, settle yourself in and get ready for puck drop. ------------------ jer_33's NHL94 setup: PC: Toshiba laptop (w/ 20 feet of network cable) Screen: 19" widescreen LCD monitor controller: XBOX360 IM: logged into AIM (any other suggestions?) beverage of choice: chilled beer (Keiths, Creemore, Rickards) ambience: nothing but the sweet sound of 16-bit organ music (and screaming kids)
  5. Add me to the list - by the time I'm called up I should be ready... jer_33 / AIM:hockeyboards@gmail.com
  6. NOSE can recognize the teams, but not the players. I get the offset Hex numbers for all 22 teams in 91 - can I somehow use that info to peel the roster with the "NHL Hoskey Roster Tool"? (I haven't been successul yet). Teams=22, TeamsOffsetHex=??? Jer
  7. Something I'll be working on, is putting together a 94 ROM with the 21 teams and rosters from the 1990-91 season. This time period was after a long run of 12 years without any major expansion. It was the year before San Jose was given a team and a couple of seasons before Minnesota would lose their team to Dallas. Things to do: 1. Figure out how to extract the roster from the .md file 2. Change Dallas colours to Minnesota If anyone is willing to help out, feel free to PM me. Cheers, Jer
  8. Nostalgia is what brought me here. Never owned a Genesis or SNES (was a PC freak), but fondly remember playing on my buddies system every weekend as a college student. I've never bought into the hype of the newest gaming systems, or gaming PCs. I've always loved playing the old games (absolutely refuse to fall into the sports trap of buying every iteration of the EA NHL sports title). Now that internet message boards are building communities of fans, we're seeing an incredible boom in retro games. That this site exists, and that there is a strong community of players connecting online and playing league games is INCREDIBLE! The effort to continue evolving the emulators, the rom itself, patches, mods, draft sites, stats sites - it's a little overwhelming. .. and entirely volunteer. CRAZY! To grow this community even more - I would recommend a few things: 1. Continue to support/encourage and appreciate those that put the time/effort into keeping things running 2. I would recommend asking for an email (or registration) before offering the downloads page 3. Follow-up same day, or after a few days time with an email to offer help with installation troubles 4. Follow-up regularly offering online play, or league advertisments 5. Perhaps a prestigious global tournament (if there isn't one already) with a couple of sponsored (retro-)trophies to be taken home. Is there a way to broadcast games to allow people to witness live games as spectators? 6. Official Global Rankings ..all for now.. Jer
  9. I'll often do a random league for sim hockey - as it's quick and fair. The spreadsheet I put together ensures some level of parity. Drafts are cool, but often take too long. I've considered doing a one-day "Frozen Four style" 16 team elimination tourney with randomized teams. Of course, I'm new here and plan to get to know the game a little better before investing too much of everyone's time. Other interesting ideas (thinking out loud here), would be to have a league with seperate GMs and coaches. GMs do all of the drafting, trading - but need to hire a coach. I opened another thread about playing a points draft, with teams that can only have a certain number of OV points. Has anyone done a cash/money league? Cheers, Jer
  10. So in the classic bin, would there even be a defenceman on the list?
  11. I looked into the GDL draft results, and was surprised by how far Bourque slid. This bug would also account for Lemieux's slide. So in the weight-adjusted bin, both players would rate differently I assume.
  12. List has to include the two goalie bombs (Belfour, Roy) and All-star defender Bourque. Any other defencemen make the cut?
  13. Looking for a list of franchise players, the cream of the crop (on the classic bin). How many are there? Where's the cut-off? 10, 12, 14? Any position, any player that you'd be thrilled to build a team around. 1. Ed Belfour 2. Patrick Roy 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
  14. So are the players drafted and rosters modded in NOSE?
  15. These drafted leagues particularly with trades, how do they function? Do they update trades weekly and just issue a new bin file?
  16. It was right around the last lockout that EA had an online version of NHL 94 to play for free on their site. It was brief however, as one day the link simply dried up. I sent an email to their support team - but don't remember getting any reply. Not sure if the game was ported to flash/shockwave, or more likely played within a flash/shockwave emulator. I'd love to track this down, and have it hosted here. Jer
  17. Just wonder if anyone has tried a drafted league/playoff with a set number of team "points". So based on a players OV total, you could only draft a team with a capped number of total points. If set up properly, it would require from interesting team building - and if set low enough would require a team to use players they don't normally use. Jer
  18. Hey all, Signed up for the fall classic league - so will hopefully be playing some/all of you guys next season. Hit me up for some practice, need to get in the habit of hosting games etc... AIM/email: hockeyboards@gmail.com
