  1. Not sure you got my gist there. Jota should be more insulted about what I said than you. I was implying that he often gives half assed efforts (intentionally or not I don't know), obviously in the regular season, but in the early parts of playoff series too (exhibit A: Games 1 & 3 in Pokerchamps series. Exhibit B: Game 1 in Rudy's. It happened in mine too, though doesn't show in the scores, I don't think I got the A game treatment until game 6) and the fact that it appears he didn't give any half assed efforts in yours means he took you more seriously than the rest of us, at least that's what I was trying to say. But if you say you played bad...

I really doubt Jota was half assing it. The guy just knows how to win when it counts.

  2. I have conncected succesfully with udp many times, so i'm pretty sure its not me.

PaulCoffeySon is liekly behind a router, but he doesn't know, so I'm assuming wouldn't know how to change options.

If he's on a larger network, like a university network he most likely won't have access to the router and won't have any choice but to play with TCP.

  3. pokrchamp is probably right. TCP has a lot more overhead than UDP and is inherently slower due to all of these extra checks and controls. Plug your internet connection directly into your PC and try UDP. It seems to me like TCP just isn't going to work for you guys so you have to figure out UDP.

For next season I strongly believe we need to make UDP a requirement to be in the league. Guys, I realize it can be a bit intimidating and/or confusing, but please put forth an effort to set up port forwarding or DMZ on your router so you can play with UDP.

Schwartz spent the time to do up a nice little getting started page that explains the basics of port forwarding. - http://www.nhl94online.com/html/snes-zbattle-howto.shtml

So take a look at that and see if you can't get port forwarding set up properly. As a quick and dirty explanation of why port forwarding is required for UDP...

Think of the online data between you and your opponenet as mail that is labelled with your address, but without a name. It's easy enough to get the letter to your house , but who in the house is the letter for? The router knows that UDP data has been delivered, but it doesn't know which computer on your local network it is for. By forwarding port 7845 (this is the port that ZSNES uses) to the computer you plan to play on, your router knows that when it receives data on port 7845 it should be sent to your computer.

I know 1 big thing that confuses a lot of people are the IP Addresses. To figure out what your **LOCAL** IP Address is do the following:

    1. Click the Start button and select Run (this will open a little window with a text box)

    2. In the text box, type cmd and hit the Enter key (this will open a black DOS window)

    3. In the black window type ipconfig and press the Enter key.

    4. There will be a few IP addresses displayed, but the one you are looking for will actually be labelled IP Address (not Subnet Mask or Default Gateway). It will probably start with a 192.168 .

This is the address you want to forward port 7845 to. The next step is to set up the port forwarding on your router (this step will vary depending on the type of router you have... Schwartz put a few links to some of the more common routers in his getting started page). And remember, after you set up or change the port forwarding you usually have to restart your router before the changes will take effect.

That is really all you should have to do to play with UDP.

  4. 01 Best Overall Coach - Deer... Christ almighty he was lethal this year.

02 Best Sportsmanship Coach/Miss Congeniality - Schwartz... his passion for the game is unrivaled, as is his good spirit.

    03 Best One-Timer Coach - Mike

04 Best Deke Coach - thekid... this is a pity vote since I didn't pick him for anything else

05 Best Slapshot Coach - McMarkis

06 Best Defensive Coach - Deer

07 Best Offensive Coach - Deer

08 Most Improved Coach - Schwartz... dealt me my first loss this season. He's definately raised the level of his game since last year.

09 Best Coach With A Low Rated Team - Schwartz... I'm starting to think he picks the whale just to win this award.

10 Best Replacement Coach - hmmmm.... Steve (Boston)

11 Best Rookie Coach - pokerchamp

12 Coach Who Stuck It Out Through The Hard Times - Jota ... not a very good season record but he's CLUTCH when it counts!

  5. I think you get credit for the 3 games you won; you should slip once the teams that advanced pick up more than 4 wins starting with the next round.

Yeah it must have something to do with who you played and how you did kind of like the college football scoring system. I lost my series but I stayed at #3.

  6. Yes it is that much of a pain. You have to log a game, and then wait for your opponent to confirm before you can log the 2nd game. why not make it so you can log all the games at once? Luckily I was only in a 4 game series, I can only imagine how much of a pain in the ass it would be for a 7 game series!

And you're confused. The winner logs thing is for regular season next year, so that theres never a problem with the loser of a game not logging the loss.

You know I agree with your idea but this isn't the way to see it get done. You've already posted your issues with the playoff logging system and I'm sure the appropriate powers that be have read them and have worked them into their gameplan. Nagging and actually posting a poll over something that basically everyone agrees on isn't going to inspire them to do it faster.

  7. I haven't seen anything official posted about how this will be handled so I'll post my suggestion for how to fill next seasons Snes A league at least...

We should have a few of the experienced A league guys (Deer, Schwartz, etc) pick the players from last seasons A league that they know are committed and good players, who don't go missing when it comes time to get games played. Then fill in the many voids with the best committed B leaguers, perhaps even holding a mini tournament or one-on-one series where guys can play as any team they want if there are any close calls amongst the A and B candidates. I know this may be obvious, but just making sure it's out there. The one-on-one series wouldn't be too hard to manage, you just tell player x and player y that there is one spot availble between the two of them, go play a 7-gamer together and the winner gets the spot. Mini tournament wouldn't be much harder to do, maybe you have 5 players and 2 spots open, give each team a week to play a 3 game series against each of the other teams, best two records make it, any tie can be settled with a tiebreaker series. Anyone who can't find time to get the games done in the week wouldn't have the commitment needed for a full season so gets cut.

There shouldn't be any sort of first-come first-served thing as far as determining who actually is in the A league next year.

Also, there should be no tolerance for people with firewall issues. If you don't know how to get around your firewall you shouldn't be allowed in to the league period. No point having guys waste their time with these people.

Mike I love you... it's like you're in my head. I especially agree with the last part about the firewall/router. If you can't play with UDP you shouldn't be allowed into A until you set it up right.

  8. I think we need to pick teams different.

Personally I love competition & would rather see the weak players

    draw teams 1st.

No Rudy with Det, Caper with Pitts, etc....

I'm not complaining I just want to give the weaker players a chance

I'll even take the last pick

Yup I agree man... we could use the power rankings that were posted to determine the draft order. Or if he does up new power rankings after the playoffs we could use those.
