  1. good catch.. wow, their 3rd, 5th, and 6th top scorers didn't make it into the game! http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues...0002221994.html I wonder if these guys weren't taken in the expansion draft, but were picked up in some other way after the game's rosters were set?
  2. I think this would be harder to fix than one might initially think. Back in the day, every byte of memory counted, so wherever possible, wasted memory was avoided. The Genesis had just 64kb (65536 bytes) of main RAM. All players, including goalies, have a 4 bytes of memory allocated to them for stats: Goals, Assists, Shots, Penalties. That's 4 bytes x 24 players x 2 teams = 192 bytes. That's 0.3% of the total RAM available. That doesn't sound like a lot, but try thinking of it as 1/333rd of the RAM, and I think it looks more significant, when you consider that you need the rest of that RAM to keep track of the player positions and speeds, their AI states, the puck position, how excited the crowd is, 10 seconds of instant replay, etc. For the goalies, those Goal and Shot bytes are used for Goals Against and Shots Against. However, when you score a goal with anyone (player or goalie), they get +1 Goal and +1 Shot.. but those end up being displayed as Goals Against and Shots Against. Whoops. For an extra 2 bytes per player, this problem could have been avoided, but then 0.45% of the RAM is taken by these stats (1/222nd)... I guess someone made the decision that they'd rather have the 96 bytes than the accurate stats. That was 96 extra bytes they could use for something else, such as adding new features in NHL 95. If EA would release the source code to this ancient game, we could fix a lot of these little problems.. but unfortunately I don't think EA is that kind of company
  3. Due to licensing issues, they couldn't get the old rosters in the game. Most of the players are no longer in the NHLPA, so they can't use them. That's my understanding of it, anyway. If you can mod a PS2, then I think you could potentially update the rosters for the game using the NOSE roster editing tool (PC program). Mod ps2, rip NHL06 disc to computer, edit NHL94 using NOSE, burn back to disc, play in PS2. Dunno if it'd work, though.
  4. Convert to the Genesis side! All the cool kids are playing it. It's quite the religious war on the forums, which system's game is better. I prefer the Genesis, but both have their strengths and weaknesses.. they're surprisingly different games. Typically people will prefer whatever they grew up playing (much like in a religious war..)
  5. Check it out: http://www.nhl94dynasty.com/records.asp?se...rRecordsOneGame
  6. I think in the FVHL someone did a test and found that they could trade players "kinda" Good: The Player Stats page will still be right The player stats on the Team page will still be right Bad: When you look at a boxscore for a game from before a player was traded, I think the boxscore will show the new player instead of the old one. I'm not 100% sure on this, I can't remember how I programmed that part. When trading a player, make sure you only replace the old player with the new player. DON'T change the order of the players in the ROM. Someone will need to go into the database and change the team for the traded players. When changing the db, disable the upload.aspx page by renaming it to something else -- this prevents games being uploaded while you're changing the db. Change the file name back after the db has been updated.
  7. You can change the number in the ROM and it will not break the stats system. The only problem will be that the website will still report their old number. If you update the ROM, make sure not to change the order of any of the players in the teams, since their index is very important. Change only the jersey numbers.
  8. Is it possible to add OTWins in the team and user stats? It'd be interesting to see people's OT records.
  9. I think we should set a deadline. It'll prompt people to get a few more games in so they're on pace to make the deadline. I've been slacking. EDIT - deadline has been posted in another thread http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?showtopic=6844
  10. Carse had 90 bodychecks in a recent game vs VC http://65.36.133.56/nhl94_draft/recap.aspx?gameid=3277 NINETY! I can't keep up with that! That's 6 checks per fake game minute! 15 checks per real minute! A check every 4 bloody seconds! he got "only" 62 in this one http://65.36.133.56/nhl94_draft/recap.aspx?gameid=3389 my record is a 'mere' 56 http://65.36.133.56/nhl94_draft/recap.aspx?gameid=3061
  11. nice however, the PTS and PTS% are still messed up. They're still using career OTL under-the-hood. MTL is showing 47 points in 22 games still (15 wins, 17 OTL), causing their pts% to be 47/(2*22)=1.068
  12. The ST% appears to be incorrect. BUF has PP:51.52 PK:72.41 ST:114.29 but 51+72=123
  13. awesome, thanks i think you are adding in career OTL, instead of OTL in the current season. MTL has 17 OTLs listed. also, i made a mistake, as it should by divided by (2*GP). also, can you make that one into a decimal number like save percent? so a good team might have a 0.700 points "percentage", like in baseball. if i may ask one more thing.. is it possible to move the legend that is under the table outside of the scrollable area? it lowers the horizontal scroll bar out of my screen, requiring lots of vertical scrolling (i really need a new monitor! 1024x768 is so old!). An alternative is to add an <abbr> tag on each header abbreviation, like so http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_abbr.asp
  14. haha. what a goal by malkin, the 10 foot slapper. i bet he does that in practice. people were wondering why he was so slow on that penalty shot on lundqvist, but i was pretty sure he knew what he was doing. goalie's can't react that fast. he just missed his aim on the penalty shot, got it too high, hit the glove. lundqvist didn't move. the goalie has no chance if you hit it from that close, hit your target, and don't give your target away when shooting.
  15. indeed. I like how the fans are all wearing the AWAY team's sweater colour..
  16. coo' While we're all (read: I'm) chasing you around for more features.. I'd find these interesting in the team/user stats, if you already have them being stored in the DB: OTL PTS PTS% ( (2*W + OTL + T)/GP ) SHG shorthanded goals SHGA shorthanded goals against PPGA powerplay goals against ST% special teams success (PP%+PK%) B% breakaway success percentage 1T% onetimer success percent F% faceoff % (FW/(FW+FL)) bodycheck ratio (BCF/BCA) (i don't know what the abbreviation would be..) P1G period 1 goals, as a % (P1G/(P1G+P2G+P3G)) (ignore OT goals) P2G period 2 goals, as a % P3G period 3 goals, as a %
  17. I'd take Crosby. He's the most Gretzky-ish, and I think his teammates would learn the most from him. Ovechkin and Malkin have lots skill, but I think Crosby has the most skills that others could actually learn. You have to wonder how could all Gretzky's teammates would have become if he had never played with them... Messier, Kurri, Coffey, etc.. Trading away those guys (Christensen?) for Hossa probably cost them a lot 5 years from now, as those guys would have become better than they otherwise would have, due to playing with someone as good as Crosby.
  18. I noticed a bug in the team.asp page -- the players are sorted by Assists, not Points, by default Shooting % is up now, too Can you make it a %, though? just multiply by 100 and show just 1 decimal.
  19. I found them all to be correct. That was pretty quick, nice! There were not tie games to test the tie game case, though. Oh, does the recent games list show if a game went to OT?
  20. Right. If the game is 4-3, then the 4th goal is the winner, no matter what order the goals were scored in. 99% sure that's it. I guess the way that would have to be implemented would be to fill up a couple arrays with the home goal scorers and away goal scorers from the Scoring Summary in the savefile, then if the game is say 4-2, take the 3rd goal from the winning team. It's not a trivial thing to add, since it'll take some new columns in some database tables. I wonder how Game Tieing Goals work? Is it both players who score the final goals, or just the player who scored the last goal of the game? Oh, guess who was 2nd in GWG this season? Jeremy Roenick, with 10 GWG. He only scored 14 goals.. 71% of his goals were game winners.. talk about clutch. Ovechkin had 11 GWG on 65 goals.
  21. In say a 5-3 game, it's the 4th goal by the winning team, regardless of the order the two teams scored in. At least.. i'm pretty sure that's it.
  22. I think Malkin is more like Lemieux than Ovechkin. Ovechkin is his own type . These are interesting times.. the past 10 years have basically been the post Gretzky/Lemieux years.. now we're in the Crosby/Ovechkin/Malkin years.. Malkin's 1.19 pts/gm come from the 2nd line. When Crosby was out, he was, I think, over 1.60 pts/gm (but anyone can have a hot month..). When Crosby's in the lineup, he plays about a minute less than Crosby (~5%). After seeing a replay of a shift where Crosby lost his stick, fought of TWO guys for the puck, then got his stick back with control of the puck.. I find it hard to question how hard he plays
