  1. I love the Y-button hack. Yeah, I understand the skill of having to predict a second ahead, but it's just so much better to switch immediately. Can't wait to test this reduced time to switch in Blitz!
  2. ESPN "Expert" picks: We're going back to '94 with a NYR vs VAN Stanley Cup Final. Same results.
  3. Awesome -- and if it works, let's get some games in!
  4. Lol, I didn't filter the data. This anomaly is Icestorms 29-11 season with the Isles. He went 18-2 at home. I'll filter low sample size in the future. http://nhl94online.com/html/coachpage.php?lg=7&sublg=GENS&team_ID=227
  5. Looking at the classic results (6,850 games) of the regular season for Home and Away, there is an overall home ice advantage. Overall .523 home vs .477 away. But what's more interesting is that the "High", "Avg", and "Low" Home/Road Ice Advantage ratings for each team seem to make a difference too. In the few teams that have a High road advantage and Avg home, the away % is greater than home. For example, EDM has Avg home ice advantage, and a High road advantage. They post a .396 home and .481 away! NJ is the same Avg/High and they too, have a better road record of .382 vs .353 home. So I guess you're better off on the road with those teams. TEAM Win% Home % Away % HIA RIA ANH 0.211 0.263 0.158 Low Low BOS 0.535 0.577 0.491 High Avg BUF 0.579 0.629 0.529 High Avg CAL 0.474 0.473 0.476 Low Low CHI 0.692 0.719 0.667 High Avg DAL 0.529 0.546 0.512 Low Low DET 0.610 0.637 0.583 Low Low EDM 0.439 0.396 0.481 Avg High HTF 0.366 0.400 0.333 Low Low LA 0.533 0.541 0.526 Avg Avg MON 0.615 0.665 0.566 High Avg NJ 0.368 0.353 0.382 Avg High NYI 0.725 0.900 0.550 Low Low NYR 0.476 0.513 0.440 Avg Avg OTT 0.438 0.500 0.375 Low Low PHI 0.282 0.283 0.280 High High PIT 0.359 0.406 0.312 High Avg QUE 0.397 0.394 0.400 Low Low SJ 0.331 0.384 0.278 Avg High STL 0.287 0.302 0.271 High Avg TB 0.557 0.571 0.542 Low Low TOR 0.470 0.500 0.441 Avg Avg VAN 0.541 0.534 0.549 Avg Avg WSH 0.528 0.556 0.500 Avg Avg WPG 0.439 0.479 0.399 Avg Avg Total 0.500 0.523 0.477 Another quick note -- here are the results of home ice win % compared the the overall percentage for teams who have HIA listed as High, Avg, and Low: HIA Win % Home % Diff High 0.522 0.558 0.036 Avg 0.479 0.496 0.017 Low 0.496 0.512 0.016 You can see that a "high" home ice advantage seems to bump up your win% more so than avg and low. All of which makes sense and confirms (at least for me) that home ice is usually better, and the individual team advantages also factor in the game. My next goal is to see if I can get my hands on the game by game data to see how the results look for home teams with high/avg/low advantage vs teams with high/avg/low away advantage. That granularity would be interesting.
  6. As far as I can tell, they should be the same. I don't know enough about electronics to know if there's a difference in actual quality, but from what I do understand, this will work fine. No controller, just the cable at retroport. I think the difference in price is marketing. Google "Genesis USB Controller" and see what comes up first. That's what I did, and saw recommended here. I think once you find out that the Genesis controller uses a "DB9" connector, all you need is a DB9 to USB adapter. Google that and you'll find cheaper prices. Go on eBay and it's even cheaper! (note: on retrozone they never mention DB9 to USB)
  7. Yeah, that should work. DB9 (genesis controller interface) to USB adapter. That's what I use now. http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=69
  8. NYR best team? You may convinced me to try SNES next classic. Interesting that Hartford has a 3.69 GFA and a 3.95 GAA, a negative difference of 0.26, yet have a winning record -- 8th best in fact.
  9. SMOZ a GENIUS! I got him set up, played test games fine. I just sent him the three files (Gens, kaillera, 94 ROM) directly into a new folder, worked perfect. THANKS!
  10. I went through those steps and he's able to play the ROM vs. the computer. Although, we did start from scratch, so maybe we should try those steps again.
  11. As with what Robbie is saying -- went through everything again from scratch. He can join servers, but the game crashes when we start. In P2P, either person hosts, crash when start. My guess is it's something part of the security settings in Trend Micro (anyone else use this, have experience?), but don't know for sure. Win 7, and he can play the game vs. computer no problem. Just crashes the moment we try to start an online game. so frustrating!
  12. Worth a shot, but for it's worth Windows restore discs that come with specific laptops ARE for only that laptop/computer. It's great when you have to restore for the specific computer (no need to find your product key, etc), but not so great for sharing.
  13. I used and still have the original 3, then switched to the 6 button original (the bigger one without turbo). The 2011 ROM by clockwise has a manual goalie control hack where you can switch to goalie with the x button. That was why I switched.
  14. I smell foul play. Hope you get up and running dude!
  15. Looking for your dream job? Go to the GA career center and realize your full potential! http://www.ga.com/careers/index.php There's also a concentration of GA on the west coast of the US, including GA headquarters: http://www.ga.com/visitor/map.php
  16. Well, now we're getting into individual player skill. A strong player can use Florida and beat the ASE against a weaker player! That all depends on who is using the teams.
  17. With Borque and Zalapski back there, and Lemieux in the lineup, I would say that West would ALWAYS win.
  18. I copy/pasted the from the nhl94online site from all the classic seasons that were available (Spring'08 to Spring'11). GENS only -- I originally did this for the NHL'94 Rankings thread, so I had the stats handy now. That was IceStorm's 29-11 season (Fall'10), remarkable with NYI.
  19. THE STATS DON'T LIE! Check out the top two teams in regards to GAA from the Classic results: TEAM GP GF GA GFA GAA CHI 491 2,355 1,571 4.796 3.200 MTL 392 1,556 1,266 3.969 3.230 BOS 333 1,253 1,124 3.763 3.375 BUF 486 1,944 1,665 4.000 3.426 NYI 40 216 140 5.400 3.500 NJ 68 219 250 3.221 3.676 DET 503 2,204 1,852 4.382 3.682 EDM 107 395 400 3.692 3.738 VAN 474 2,031 1,819 4.285 3.838 TOR 304 1,106 1,185 3.638 3.898 DAL 412 1,644 1,627 3.990 3.949 TB 98 398 390 4.061 3.980 LA 394 1,667 1,594 4.231 4.046 WSH 36 139 146 3.861 4.056 CAL 472 1,956 1,915 4.144 4.057 NYR 316 1,174 1,285 3.715 4.066 PIT 312 923 1,324 2.958 4.244 WPG 379 1,422 1,628 3.752 4.296 QUE 463 1,672 2,018 3.611 4.359 PHI 253 765 1,118 3.024 4.419 SJ 145 529 649 3.648 4.476 STL 171 452 767 2.643 4.485 HFD 131 490 644 3.740 4.916 OTT 32 136 158 4.250 4.938 ANA 38 114 225 3.000 5.921
  20. NO LEMIEUX! I'd throw Recchi in there. I can see taking Bondra over Robitaille, but otherwise the West takes it.
  21. I haven't actually played with ASE/ASW for a loooong time, so I don't know what lines I would actually use. I just noted the player ranks (see NHL'94 Rankings) and saw that West better than East. However, I can safely say I would never use Lemieux due to weight bug. He is 10 weight and falls like a feather to any check. I would avoid at all costs. Just terrible. I'd choose Gartner over Oates, same 7 weight, but Gartner has more speed (5 vs 4) and shot power/accuracy is 5/3 vs 3/4. That's mainly why, though, there may be a combo that I prefer more. And Wendell Young is too! I just thought there wasn't a major advantage of Belfour over Roy, both so tough. Now I wonder what the GAA in classic results looks like for each team? I wonder if MTL and CHI are on top? Though GAA also factors in Defense, so it's not as accurate as the save percentage stats you have in Blitz. (so awesome to have all those stats, btw)
  22. No question it's the West. Forwards: Roenick, Bure, Yzerman, Fluery, Selanne >>>>> Mogilny, LaFontaine, Gartner, Recchi Defense: Housley, Chelios > Borque, Leetch Goalie: Belfour = Roy Notable missing members: Ciccarelli on the West, Don Sweeney on the East!
