  1. For a quick tourney, I prefer no line changes, but for a league it may be worth spending the time to get your lines all in order. Line changes take a bit of set-up time, both beforehand if you're not familiar with the team, and to set the game up. Agree too, 5 min periods too short for line changes. While I'm at it, if you DO DO ( ) line changes, perhaps someone familiar with ROM editing can set up the ROM with the preferred lines that we can post/submit. That would save a lot of collective time. Either way, more '94 = more fun.
  2. Week 3 Checkpoint Status: With 64% of the season completed, 3 of the 4 division favorites are winning (based on win %). Patrick Kupuck (13-5) is still the favorite in the Patrick division. patstew19 (1-26) continues to struggle with the NYI and is probably looking forward to the Spring'11 Classic. Being a C replacement player thrown into the B league with a very weak team was tough, to say the least. kingraph (19-11) still has a chance for the division, and still as 3 games left against Kupuck (DET). The teams split their first two games. Adams gretzkyonacold (22-14) is leading the division over Robro (14-16), with 4 games left. 3 against Logan (QUE) and 1 against smozoma (TOR), all of which will be very tough. Robro has 10 games left, and he has to go 9-1 to take over the division. A tough task. egorde (6-12) remains on the bottom, but still has 22 games left to play. Norris eggink (10-10) is currently has the best win percentage, and is halfway through the season. Danlizhot has wrapped up his season with a 19-21 record, right under .500. Finally, Cory (10-21) will not be able to take the division, with 9 games left. It's up to eggink to maintain that .500 record to hold on the division. Smythe Just as in week 1, the toughest division in the B league is currently being dominated by Pearate (CHI) who is 18-4. Logan has come on strong with a 17-5 record to follow and Smozoma at 10-9 falls to the bottom. Things can still move around quite a bit as all 3 teams have yet to play their 5-game division series against one another.
  3. I'm in, but if it's all in 1 night, I don't know if I can dedicate that much time at once.
  4. LA vs EDM -- The AJ rankings score those two teams nearly the same (applying the 3,2,1 weights on F,D,G), with LA benefiting from offense, EDM on defense/goalie. However, the classic results and the calculated ratings both have LA rated much higher than EDM. I'd agree too that LA is better than EDM, especially when you start factoring in manual goalie play. I also like to think of it in tiers, instead of slicing each of the teams individually. Meaning, two opponents of similar skill can beat each other equally, on average, using ANY of the tier III teams (WPG, QUE, EDM, LA & NYR), but you would see a clear advantage if one chose a TIER II team (CGY, VAN, TOR, BOS, & DAL). Not too say that the teams or the tiers are set in stone, but that's the idea. Update 2.0 coming after the Fall'11 Classic results are in -- this whole thing may fall apart!
  5. Personally, I pronounce it "GAH", but I'm not sure. WTGA - "What the GA?", akin to WTF. I've come to know that the "ON" suffix is also a part of '94 lingo, and RAPON (rape) and TRAPON (trap) are two terms in particular used to describe games. A blowout, or high score, is a RAP-ON while the tight defensive TRAP game, is TRAP-ON.
  6. Similar to what HABS is saying, I've been tinkering with an idea for a "summer survivor league" (during classic off-season), where each coach get to use a given number of teams for the season. It eliminates the draft luck and creates a little strategy. For example, just my current ideas: * Let's say there is a 30 game regular season (depends on how many teams sign up, etc.) * I'd choose 15 teams at random and you can use each team twice. * Home team chooses their team first, followed by away I think this would be a lot of fun and it would require you to learn how to use a lot of teams. You would also have to think about using a strong team against a strong player, or weak team as a throw away, etc. Anyway, I'd like to get a website to log scores and show remaining teams available, etc. I'd like to get it set up by summer, so stay tuned. Of course, any volunteers are welcome -- I'm currently reading a book to learn how to do this.
  7. My two cents: We must remember that this IS the classic league, so inherent in the league is the draft of fixed teams -- some of which are clearly better than others. That's just the way it is. Reducing the league to 12 teams is not a bad idea as it reduces the number of weaker teams. The selection of league's themselves (A/B/C, elite A, etc.) is a little more problematic. Ideally you want to group people fairly, to have a fun competitive season. At the same time, you want to have some maneuvering room so the same 12 people don't play each other every year and everyone goes 20-20. It's not an easy task, and aside from Dcicon's departure, everyone else is playing without complaints -- we know the rules. (At least I think -- who knows what Halifax/Chaos have in their inboxes...lol). It probably makes sense that if 3+ more veteran players agree that a newbie is B level rather than C, then that person is given the opportunity to play in B right away (i.e. sicarius, bradbershad, etc.). But it'd have to be at least 3 other veterans...it wouldn't be right to have levels determined by a single individual. Keeping in mind that this is only for players that happen to have played multiple veterans. I wouldn't make it a rule that every new guy has to play different exhibs to determine level -- seems like overkill.
  8. Boston is also ranked well and has historically done well in Classic (see NHL'94 Team Rankings) Funny that this comes from a guy who went 29-11 in the regular season with the NYI!
  9. Awesome, have fun Halifax! '94 not only the greatest game, also greatest NHL year!
  10. The sole reason I switched teams -- it gets annoying even on offense!
  11. Stream looks great! Next we'll have to see how it works with online play and lag. It'd be good to note what kind of internet service speed people are using (download/upload -- you can check via speedtest.net if you're not sure) and perhaps determine if there's a threshold where streaming causes lag.
  12. How about the phillies fan who threw up on an 11 year old girl ON PURPOSE, after his other friend was throw out for spitting on her: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5098407
  13. Shotgun getting my ass kicked with Philly in A!
  14. I was just thinking there is no section on desynch etiquette. While I've never had a problem agreeing on a resolution (i.e. play 2 more periods, assume tied 2-2, etc.), there can be some guidelines. The players should first agree on the last known true score. Player 1 says 4-3, and Player 2 says 3-3, then the last known score is 3-3. If the last known score is agreed upon, the players can choose to play the remaining time, usually to the last closest minute, or whole period. One item about a desynch is injuries. Let's say a key player is knocked out of the game or period (Roenick, Selanne, Bradley, etc.) and a desynch happens. Should the team with the knocked out player keep him out of the lineup on the restart? I WOULD THINK SO. Anyone else have conflicts on desynch?
  15. There seems to be hope for an updated version: http://pixelpuck.com/?p=714 Check out the comments from 09/04: hoping their is a plan for 2012 release… Reply PixelPuck09-04-11 There is, and there will be.
  16. Right before this topic game up I played an exhibition where my opponent got a penalty shot (terrible call ref!), I dove with the goalie, knocking the puck away. No whistle. My opponent went back and to get it...and let the time run out! I believe it was the first time that happened to me. I wasn't sure if he was confused, but now I believe he was abiding by this rule. I will also recognize the play as dead should this happen to me in the future.
  17. Oooh, that's a tough one. I never thought of that. What does everyone else think about this?
  18. Sorry HABS, I was just joking on this one (referring to the completely fake kingraph sportsbook ) While on the topic, I'm currently listening to the "Behind the Bets" podcast with Chad Millman, which is all about sports betting. You may enjoy it, if you don't listen to it already. Though, it is heavily geared toward the NFL right now. http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=6965173
  19. Sam Rosen: "The New York Rangers are the Stanley Cup Champions! And this one will last a lifetime!" Still gives me goosebumps!
  20. Do you want a job working at a fabulous sportsbook? The pay is terrible and the benefits suck, plus there's no real room for advancement or personal growth. But it's FUN!
  21. Week 1 Checkpoint Status: Based on winning percentage, 3 of the 4 division favorites are winning. Patrick Kupuck (9-2) is still the favorite in the Patrick division. Houly is out, replaced by patstew19 (1-16) who is having a hard time with the NYI. kingraph (12-7) has a chance for the division, but much will depend on the 5-game series between left to play between kupuck (DET) and kingraph (TB). Adams As predicted, gretzkyonacold (15-10) is leading the division in a close one. Robro (9-8) has come out much stronger than predicted and can win this division too with a great defense of EDM. egorde (5-10) has stumbled out of the gate and will need to go on a hot streak to take this division. Norris eggink (4-3) is currently has the best win percentage, but only has 7 games played. Danlizhot (16-16) and Cory (10-20) have played many more, so eggink will have to maintain that >.500 record to hold on the division. Dan has also done better than the +350 odds that opened up originally. Smythe The toughest division in the B league is currently being dominated by Pearate (CHI) who is 8-1. Smozoma follows with an 8-5 record, with Logan on the bottom at 5-4. Still too early to tell as all 3 have yet to play their 5-game division series. Nonetheless, the Pearate odds (+250 division, +800 cup) are looking like the #1 threat to put the kingraph sportsbook out of business!
