  1. Ok then why the haven't they been confirmed yet lol, I don't get it.
  2. man, how do you make these exactly, would love to make some myself with SWOS sprites.
  3. Great addition, however if you got to add everybody else manually and there's no "public" channel (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) then it's not that easy. Also, I believe messages will go missing if either chatter refreshes/switch page. How about something like this instead: Quakenet webchat, it'd be much more practical imho.
  4. played and succesfully logged my first two matches (Vs. Hartford) however they won't show up in the fixtures/league tables, how comes?
  5. I just flail the joystick around and spam on the buttons like it's Konami's Track'n Field 100 mt. event. Can't go wrong with that. EDIT: actually nvm, this isn't about NHL94 lol.
  6. Like? You're gonna ban me cause I'm criticizing (constructively) some of the alleged flaws of the league format? lol, such hostility...
  7. You must've skipped this Besides, you're acting as if assigning teams randomly erases the gap in stats between them, I mean...er. Is the random assignment fair? Yeah it is, it's "random" after all. Is having teams ranging from 50~ to 80~ Ovr in the same competition fair though? Nope, in fact it's dumb. Is the "10-picks" system pointless? Yep, seeing as with this many people the randomness almost completely overrides its effectiveness. Would you still need to assign teams randomly, potentially pissing off those who end up with either a team they don't give a damn about or a weak team (or both), had the teams been equal to begin with (either the same template all across the board with re-named rosters/names/kits or a few selected templates with similar ratings to retain some degree of variety)? Nope, you would not and you'd finally achieve fairness (also, it'd still be "Classic" seeing as the stats of those team templates wouldn't change). That being said: Also, no hard feelings, just trying to get my point across, this is your league so you got the right to do whatever you want with it.
  8. If you don't see how having teams ranging from 50~ Overall to 80~ Ovr in the same tournament isn't fair then I dunno what to tell ya, you must be in denial...or something. This disparity alone is what is actually forcing you to put in place some sort of seeding mechanism/random assignment system to give people the illusion that things "are fair" when in fact they're about as fair as Puerto Rico playing Jordan, Magic, Stockton, Barkley and Larry Bird back in "92. Hadn't the seeding/random assignment system been in place I would've probably ended up with Edmonton, seeing as no one else picked it as his 1st choice anyway. I got over it though so w/e. Less talking pointless bickering, more NHL94.
  9. Don't need to play no league to recognize potential flaws in the system, all you need is some common sense. I'm also used to organize tournaments and events for other games such as SWOS, Winning Eleven and FIFA so this stuff immediately sticks out to my trained eye as I've had my fair share of criticisms on this kinda issues over the years as well. That being said, I ain't gonna quit because of the team, I promised I would've played and I will play all of my matches. I hate when people bail out on me during my tournaments so I would never do that. Also, thanks halifax for the explaination.
  10. >Rookies playing with crap teams >Veteran masters playing with top-teams >everything else is random. >Edmonton 1st choiced by only 1 player >player ends up with his 9th choice, a team he doesn't give a flying f**k about cause you can't possibly support more than 2 or 3 teams >another player who didn't have Edmonton in his top-5 gets them Sure is fair lol. Also, the fact that it's always been like this doesn't mean it doesn't suck. It's a flawed system on so many levels I can't believe no one ever brought these issues up. meh, whatever, I'll stick with Tampa, I guess it's better than not playing at all.
  11. What is the point of the multiple choices form then if it gets completely overwritten by the seeding system in the end? Might as well making it clear from the get go that you're gonna get a random team unless you're an oldschooler... Imho, if 2 players out of 22 pick a team as their 1st or 2nd choice one of them should end up with it and that's it. The fact that some random dude who doesn't even have it in the top 5 got prioritized for the aforementioned team baffles me. Also, this has nothing to do with playing as a crap team as Edmonton are almost as bad as Tampa anyway (besides, I don't give a damn cause I'm gonna lose all of the match anyway, no matter the team lol) ALTHOUGH I strongly believe that if you're going to randomly assign teams the strongest ones should go to the weakest players and not the other way around... On a distinctly separate, yet quite personally connected note, in our SWOS tournaments people just pick a "team template" (generally one of the top teams in the original savedisk, so either Brazil, Real Madrid, Italy or Barcelona) and then customize it with whatever name, players' names and kits colours they see fit (stats however remain unchanged to keep the playing field as even as possible while retaining some degree of variety). Mods then modify the database accordingly and upload the savedisk (which gets updated on monthly basis). Leaps and bounds more fair than random assignment crap, cool (cause you get to control your very own personalized team), practical and simple. You guys should think about it (it'd still be "Classic" NHL94 seeing as stats wouldn't change).
  12. I'm bummed lol, how the heck did I end up with Tampa if I was like...the only one who picked Edmonton as his 1st choice lol. The guy who got Edmonton didn't even have it among his top 5 teams and I did not have Tampa in my top 5 either. What are these choices for then? I mean, I could understand if Edmonton was either a powerhouse or a highly contested team but come on, as it is this random-like assignment makes no sense, there's got to be some priority and common sense involved otherwise the multiple choice form is pointless. Edmonton should've gone to either me or Icestorm for obvious reasons.
  13. Yo man, welcome aboard! By the way, what's your AIM Screenname? We generally use AIM to communicate and arrange games. Also, the Fall Classic League is about to start, give this thread a read if you want to join us (please note that you'll have to play at least one test match against one of the oldschooler in order to be green-lighted for the league): http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?showtopic=12171&st=0
  14. What's the hold up? Can't we just start with 22 or w/e then whoever is late to the party will have to deal with playing a higher amount of matches per week? Would make sense to me.
  15. This. No idea why this site doesn't have either an integrated chat (xat.com, Gabbly chat, etc.) or a channel on quakenet or whatever accessible through IRC or Chatzilla, it would make things 10x easier. AIM is unpractical and a nuisance for those who don't normally use it.
  16. /facepalm.jpg Please, go back to my post and actually bother to read it in its entirety this time around instead of skimming through it while raging like a 12-years old Halo-player on sugar-overload. I was under the assumption that we were going to play each other only once and clearly stated to disregard my comment had that not been the case. If we're gonna play the same opponent twice or even 4x I can definitely make it. Besides, I'm new and trying to get into the game so chill out, dude.
  17. I see and it sounds doable (thanks for clearing that up), what is exactly preventing you from making it 10 or 12 weeks though (just out of curiosity)?
  18. Uh...ain't 5 games/week a little too much? It's almost a game per day, keeping up will be sorta difficult for those who are in Europe (is there anybody else btw?), mainly due to timezones-related issues. ...for instance, there's no way I'm going to be able to find five different opponents online in the span of 7 days...there's usually like...no one on AIM when I'm awake so I'll have to check the opponents' current schedule and arrange each match accordingly and that's gonna take time no matter how you look at it. Anything above 3 matches/week is stretching it big time, imho (unless we're gonna play the same opponent twice, in which case disregard my post in its entirety). Also, why such a hurry all of a sudden after months of nothingness...it makes no sense (although I'm new here so I dunno).
  19. Registered. I have already played several test matches (against beavers, swos81 and others), they just never bothered to either post in the "test" thread about it or confirm me, lol. I hope I'm set anyway though (if not, please guys chime in and confirm that I've actually been "tested"). I can also host matches just fine btw.
  20. For what it's worth we've played an online match and he's a pretty competent player.
  21. Does anybody else have this kind of problem? How do I get rid of it? I mean, everytime I boot up the Gens in windowed mode both the emulator and the icons in the background start flashing...and it gets really annoying after a while, to the point that I have to stop playing every 10 minutes or so. I have already tried to adjust the window size and other settings to no avail and I can't really play in full-screen since I run a 2x monitor set up and the emu screws up the layout no matter the resolution. Thanks in advance.
  22. I don't get it, I got a mail about the Fall league stating that I should've re-registered if I wanted in but the tournament doesn't show up in the drop-down menu. Just gotta wait a bit longer or what? Also, is this Gens or SNES?
  23. That's the point, mate: 99% of the people you'll come across on EA sports-games online leaderboards abuse "Assisted" and "Semi-Assisted" controls because they make the game a whole lot easier and actually give an edge over Full-Manual players. It's lame but big corps sorta need to cater to kids and casuals if they wanna get those sales rolling, so even if the content for the skillful gamers is still being developed, the online will always get ruined by the aforementioned features. That's why Manual players generally gather on websites such as tamfa.com and the likes and organize their own leagues and tournaments (just like you guys do for "94). Also, NHL 09 was only played for a year or so whereas SWOS, much like NHL 94, has been played for over 15 years. Besides, these allegedly "next-gen" games are so full of glitches (due to the fact that given their overall complexity, being on a yearly schedule forces the development team to literally rush them out the door) that your typical online matches are more about exploiting them than about actual skill. SWOS (and prolly NHL 94 as well even though I haven't played it long enough to be able to give a definitive judgment) on the other hand is meritocratic gameplay at its best. EDIT: oh and before you play the "ok but then if NHL 11 is eez why are you complaining" card, let me remind you that gameplay accessibility != gameplay depth. To me it just looks like they had a game that's fairly straight-forward and bi-dimensional in its core mechanics and thought of making it look "advanced" and "simulative" by implementing messed up, unintuitive and obscenely complicated controls. Case in point being the fact that if you play the demo on "NHL 94 controls" it feels quite a lot duller than the original "94.
  24. Dude, add me asap, my AIM Screen name is SearainWAR. I'm from Italy so ping shouldn't be an issue!
