  1. That is very, very sad. RIP.
  2. Might have to update the list at some point in the next few months..? http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=6672235
  3. Wow... very interesting. I wouldn't be too happy about it if I were Miller, regardless of guilt.
  4. Doing some New Year's tidying up, I re-discovered a PS2 Slim in a factory-sealed box that I've never opened. I don't know if a one-generation removed system counts as "retro" yet, or if it's just "outdated", but I figured there might be someone here who'd be interested. Shoot me a message if so - if you're willing to cover shipping, it's yours, courtesy of NHL94.com and the mod team.
  5. To decide which player gets to pick his team first, play a one-game challenge for that right. To decide which player gets to pick his team first for that challenge, play a best 2-of-3 series. To decide which player gets to pick his team first for the 3-game set, set up a best-of-5. To decide which player gets to pick his team first for the best-of-5, get yourself ready for a traditional 7-game series. To decide which player gets to pick his team first for the 7-game series, play yourself a full simulation of the Stanley Cup playoffs with you, your opponent, and 14 friends willing to do their parts to help with your methodology and ensure that fairness carries the day. To decide which of the two of you gets to draft his team first - and you knew this was coming - you must each bake a cake in the shape of any of (1) a famous screen cap from the game, (2) a Genesis or Super Nintendo or (3) the NHL94 cartridge itself. Cakes delivered to New York City. I will judge. My decision is, of course, final. It may take a while, but you'll have a fair way to ultimately establish the parameters of your console games with your buddy. And I will have a belly full of cake.
  6. My grandmother used to kick off her day by reading the obituaries to see how many people she knew. I think she would have enjoyed this thread.
  7. ...aaaaand, it's official: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=5515991
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=100805/madden
  9. People should keep this in mind when forming their opinions... there tends to be a fair amount of stuff that doesn't see the light of day.
  10. Echo! I can't seem to get the game to start. Ugh.
  11. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...5122901412.html My advice to Canada is to just wait until the US runs out of money (in about two years or so) and let us collapse. It worked with the Soviet Union.
  12. Nooooo! Ah well. I like this stat from ESPN: "The nine-time All-Star has scored 1,216 points, third-most among American-born players in NHL history." Being third-highest scorer among American-born players is sort of like being the third tallest midget in the circus. He's barely in the top 40 overall. I say this with nothing but love for my American brothers and sisters.
  13. My wife just informed me that as of today there are 12 Tim Horton's opening up in New York! FTW! You Canadians! Tell me what I need to do! What do I order?!? I am very excited about this.
  14. Or if Vince Vaughn told millions of folks “It’s not so much me as it is Addisonbr. He’s that good.”
  15. While true, neither did "real-life" Gretzky. Still, didn't mean he didn't deserve some props now and again.
  16. I'm throwing out my kids' pictures books and just printing out this thread a few times
  17. In time, new users of this site will hear talk of AJ and think it is the stuff of myth. They will be wrong. Tip of the cap to you.
  18. This is very true. For example, AJ can defeat me with Vancouver, he can defeat me with Quebec, he can defeat me with Hartford, he can defeat me with Edmonton, he can defeat me with San Joe, he can defeat me with Ottawa... The list really goes on and on. There are so many ways to be successful!
  19. This is very true. Although I will add that when done the right way (i.e., don't come off like a d-bag) that some posts on GENS-SNES are the only way I learn about features of the "other" system. I am very jealous of SNES defense/goalie control. I find it chuckle-able that people would try to say that clockwise's review is biased. That's like saying that Onion News has a slant. Just laugh and enjoy the gifts he gives you!
  20. I prefer GENS, but I think this is a pretty big deal. I really wish GENS had what SNES has here. (Yes, I know this is an old topic.)
  21. I think it's pretty hard for it not to be Chicago on GENS. I'm not trying to bash any other team, but Chicago with no line changes is pretty hard to top.
  22. http://nhl94.com/html/multimedia/nhl94_car...IPS&crd=222 What some call the deke, we and others have always called it "The Move". For us the term "The Move" dates pretty much from '91 until present day. Not having any exposure to an EA-NHL community outside of our dorm back then, I'm pretty inclined to respect that the terminology "The Move" evolved independently in many different places.
  23. I can't speak for the quality of the eBay offerings, but I am very happy with the $20-ish cable I got from retrousb that lets me plug in any Sega controller: http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?c...;products_id=69 Allows me to play with quite literally the same controllers I was using 15 years ago, and if I ever break the pad I still have the cable. Just have to go to the Internet and buy another regular-ol' Sega pad for $5.
