  1. So we are missing one pick, correct? Don't the rules state they are awarded the highest rated player left if they haven't picked by the end of the round? After Hokkee picks, then chicago should be awarded the highest rated player before hokkee picks again.
  2. Calgary takes LaFontaine (1.23)
  3. Scribe99 and Hokkeefan1 have consummated a deal: Scribe99 trades his 4th rounder (#74) and his 8th rounder (#170) to Hokkeefan1, for Hokkeefan1's 4th rounder (#91) and his 7th rounder (#150).
  4. I'd be interested in hearing any explanation for it. But off what I remember from testing, it isn't consistently up-side-down. I think the in-game numbers are likely pure fluff.
  5. I'm convinced that the ratings you see when you edit the lines are wrong. Their exact rating in say shot power, is somewhere within their given range; aka a 5 shot power is still a 5 shot power. But the number that it displays doesn't match to what happens in the game. I've tested it out for 4 shot power guys. If you watch what happens when you hold the shoot button as long as you can, the players who are over a certain rating number fully extend their hands behind their head as they're loading up for a shot. For example, a 5 shot power guy will always fully extend no matter; a 3 shot power guy will never fully extend his hands; a 4 shot power guy will sometimes fully extend and sometimes not. The ratings range of the 4 shot power guy must fluctuate around whatever the cut off line is for that slapshot animation. An extended slapshot is a harder slapshot, and the player must have a higher rating to do that. The problem is that when you look at their in game ratings through editing your lines, the number it shows never matches up with the player's actual shot power, judging by that arm extension. A 4 shot power guy might have an 83 shot power rating when you check, but he won't be extending his hands on his slapshot. Conversely that same guy might have a 66 rating when you check on a different game, but he is extending his hands and shooting harder. So the in-game numbers must not match up with their actual rating.
  6. Yep, that is the thing that finally did it for me. It's seems like every gens session one of the players has a slight advantage and the other is slightly delayed. I think its a timing issue with gens. It also doesn't seem to handle different video settings well at all. I ran some tests by using the FPS display and typically when someone else had picked a vastly different video mode than me, one of us would get very low fps, yet the game would still run fine for the other. I don't think KEGA has as many of these issues, and the timing seems much smoother so you don't experience controller delay as much.
  7. Is KEGA being used? I'd love to play but those gens connections are so unreliable and aggravating sometimes.
  8. Maybe instead of fixing the weight bug, try just making the checking rating matter. I know Smozoma can do that. At least that way guys like Bourque can be more effective and all those little squirts with no skills won't be quite so dominating.
  9. http://65.36.133.56/nhl94/user.aspx?id=34 I've got 24 games in and it's not as bad as some might think. But it's not '94 hell-on-wheels like it was meant to be played.
  10. Yeah, the main reason I stopped playing was the inconsistency of gens connections. So it's nice to see KEGA has gained a following. I'll definitely be looking for some games now that people are using it.
  11. They should just have a mid ice "over and back" rule like basketball. Most people seem to think that no offsides in real life would lead to cherry picking. Yet you don't see that in basketball, where there's not even a goalie back there. Not having offsides on just allows more styles of play. I've seen plenty of styles of play from playing guys on here. You can play "half-court" offense on here and if you do it just makes it harder for the opponent to run n gun. Two guys that like to run n gun are going to have an up and down game. The key is establishing your style of play and getting the opponent to play that. Matt Hurray and Smozoma, if I remember right, are great at slowing the run n gun by being methodical on offense. It does work. If you flip offsides on, then everyone will be forced to play that kind of slowed down style, save a few turnovers here or there.
  12. Run n' Gun til I die. Offsides is just a terrible concept in real life. It sucks in soccer and it sucks in hockey. It's just a handicap for the defense. I really can't stand the NHL style of play, where the best maneuver is slap the puck to no one rather than make a play.
  13. Honestly, I hate the blue line in the real NHL and I work for a team. I think it makes the play so monotoneous and boring. I'd rather see a guy make a play or a pass than dump the puck to the defense as soon as he gets it. So the fact that the NHL has an offsides rule really has no importance to me. I like the fast-paced action this game allows, where it's all about playmaking skills. It's much more entertaining than the real thing, at least the NHL version. Give me some olympic sized ice sheets where more passing lanes are open and I might be okay with offsides.
  14. Tried this out last night. I really noticed the difference in the controls; it seems a lot less stiff. I think it plays near perfect right now. On the video settings, if you play full screen, just select the full screen display that matches up with your monitor. Otherwise if you prefer windowed, you can select different window sizes as well. I also uncheck zoom and resize, and leave his new correct ratio setting intact so I'm playing on the actual genesis screen ratio, not some bugged out concoction like gens allowed. I swear those user-defined, stretched out screens made for all kinds of problems when linking up to play someone online anyway.
  15. I found his description of this in the readme file: "USE ALTERNATE TIMING - Normally the sound card will be used for timing purposes - this ensures a clean, pop/gap free sound stream. However, some sound cards/drivers do not provide accurate timing information. If you notice any speedup / slowdown or inconsistent speed problems, you can try enabling alternate timing instead. Note though that you may get some problems with sound if you do so. This option will be forced ON if you have no sound card in your machine, or you disable sound." ------ This does sound like a great option to check for online play as it should take care of any speed bumps that are caused by the timing between video and sound.
  16. This is nice to see. I wasn't sure there would be another update. Alternate timing? -- Haven't tried that before, what does it do? Saving netplay games -- F5 function would be nice, but just so others know, you can still save the state after playing an online game by saving it after going offline. Video Recording -- Have you guys tried using the codecs he mentions in the history file?
  17. Minddefect, you hit on the exact problem with gens. The online frame rate consistently is higher than 60 and jumpy too. There really isn't anything that can be done about it, I've tried. Newer Gens32 and Kega simply have more accurate timing, and that's the reason the control is more responsive. gr199, I agree that medium is a good middle ground. But the main point I want to make is that people need to check their own connections with the ping test I listed, so that if the connection spikes they can try to improve it instead of blaming it on a setting or the emulator.
  18. I think I totally matters on who you play. They key is having a stable connection, that doesn't spike. There are certain players on here, you know who you are, who's connections are all over the map, and honestly, it sucks playing them because it's almost like your pc has to adapt to their timing, giving the worse connection the advantage. I also recommend not using a wireless connection unless you are positive it's not spiking. Wireless connections tend to spike up and down more imo. To test your connection's "spiky-ness". go to windows start menu --> run --> type cmd in the box --> then type ping espn.com -t or whatever website you'd like. You will see your ping time checked every second off of that website. If it's all over the place then you have a problem connection. And for the sanity of all of us, you should get that thing fixed before going online with it.
  19. I really liked Kega when I tried it out. I think the control is much more precise and console like than Gens is. One of the major reasons I haven't been playing online lately is that I just became fed up with the gens emulator as it stands. Even playing offline, I feel like there's something not right about the control. Of course that becomes even worse when you play online. I've tested out some of the newer Gens32 emulators and the control is much smoother and responsive than the gens that everyone uses here. I would probably come back and play online if people moved on to either Kega or one of the Gens32 emulators. You just have to try them out and you'll notice the difference in control right away.
  20. Can't you play roms on DS with a flash card? I haven't looked into emulators and I'm not sure about online play ...
  21. If you played him on the console. I'm assuming your timing was off, considering you probably play mostly online matches. Also, the controller has a big influence. Playing some console games last year had me switching controllers and adjusting to the feel big time. The popular emulators really don't play or feel the same as the console does.
  22. The site looks great DaDonch! 15th anniversary edition is a nice treat, thanks
  23. No I meant the hacked or edited '94 roms.
  24. Completely agreed. And light players will still accelerate faster and possess more agility so it would seem to strike a better balance overall. Checking out the player spreadsheet that Smozoma posted, I noticed some players who will definitely be happy with the return of their mojo. Smozoma, wondering if your program will work with all roms?
