  1. Weehoo! Got Windows to work again using a chkdsk command when booting with the XP cd.. tried out Nose and smozoma's software. Amazing stuff, really! And tonight I got even happier because I found out of a free cross-platform thing for OSX called Virtualbox (like vmware and parallels desktop except free)... and it exceeded all expectations with shared folders between OSX and virtual XP and so on... Activated spaces too so I can quickly switch between OSX where I run tile molester since it's java based... Update on the bookmarks I've done so far: Just noticed some bugs when importing palettes for the team rink logos. Everything was pretty messed up.. started to debug why it was messed up, it had to do with the bookmarks I've made. I discovered that the palette number (palette 2, 3 etc) is actually stored when you bookmark the NAVIGATION bookmark, and not when you save a PALETTE bookmark, kind of weird but I'm gonna edit the xml now to correct all errors. Just thought I'd share that information for people who have the same problem. What particular changes would cause the palette decimals to change when you alter the rosters? On screenshot number 17 it is a note: "Always use the decimal offset of the Home Strip shown in NOSE when importing the palette as it can change when you alter the roster!" I guess I can't bookmark those palettes because they might change for anyone doing their own different roster Question # 2 There's a guide on how the change the puck color, home team puck.. But it does not mention the offset for the puck. Would like to make it more authentic in size, smaller... where do I go to? Answer: Approx 7C30C 1x9 tiles, not sure how to know if that's exactly correct but at least all puck sprites and shadow are visible at that location
  2. By the way, I will rename the palette bookmarks and add a * in the name for palettes that is a shared palette. In the tile molester screenshot it was explained but it could be good with a * just to instantly notice that "you might f**k something up in another place if you mess with this palette... One thing I haven't understood yet, do you do the player uniforms in tile molester? never seen the uniforms in there so far... EDIT: Is this tutorial the way people do it still? Or are there better ways? http://www.nhl94.com/html/editing/edit_bin_uniforms.php I guess it would be easier to locate the palette in tile molester and just change it there by clicking the swatches... instead of going the HEX way EDIT: THIS QUESTION HAS RECENTLY BEEN ANSWERED IN ANOTHER THREAD, AND, IT WAS ME WHO STARTED THAT THREAD... embarrassing, too much in my head at the moment. Last day of work before vacation Answer to the question above: http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/13315-resource-for-chaning-teams-ice-logo-palette/page__view__findpost__p__106628
  3. Big thank you! It worked on the megadrive # 4 Isn't the game a lot faster with this wboy 30 team rom? I mean the players seems to be crazy good compare to original game?
  4. I added one for the net as well. Following the guide here: http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/11658-how-to-altering-the-net-tiles-and-palette/ However, the net already looks amazing in the 30 team wboy 1.0b rom. That guide suggests changing some hex stuff, but actually when I go to the palette it tells in the guide "2. Palette> Import From> This File> Offset: 366884> Size: 64> Byte Order: Motorola> Format: 9bpp BGR (Genesis). NOTE: cycle to the 2nd palette (arrow on the right) in the bottom tool bar after this palette is loaded." ...it looks like the correct palette RIGHT AT PALETTE NUMBER ONE. It suggests going to palette #2 but that always mess my whole net up... # 1 Another thing, I was messing around trying to find the player indication star. Has anyone got that offset and canvas written down? I'm a real newbie to this so I have no experience in "how to solve the puzzle"... Here's a screengrab, at least it's on the way.. http://djoman.dyndns.org/rom-edit/NHL94-player-indicator.jpg # 2 And how in the name of.. do you know which palette should be used for that star? In the example I'm using the same as for the net (palette slot 1, not slot 2 as the guide suggests, at 366884) # 3 If anyone have notes or something, please post here. Locations and palettes for stuff. Like the Zamboni or whatever Gonna test the latest version of the rom on the megadrive right away so that I don't make a mod of the game only to realize it doesn't actually work on the console Good night
  5. I think I'm on my way of doing what I just asked for. Have a tile molester xml now with bookmarks to almost everything. According to wboy's screenshots the palettes for team rink palettes can change when you alter rosters... He said to use NOSE but on a mac and my second hard drive has XP but it just won't boot. Have to run off the XP CD disc and run a chkdsk I believe... Cause Linux is on that same hard drive and it boots up just fine... Will post the xml in a new thread when I'm done with it. Will also post links to wboy's threads as well as the website with the IPS patch to patch the NHL UE ! rom to 30 team rom v1.0b wboy's screenshots are still as valuable as before. It's just that it will be nice to have bookmarks to all the places it refers too
  6. Yeah I just play NHL 2010 from swos-mahavishnu on my actual megadrive console and it worked fine (2048kb) Is there some kind of "perfect starting ROM" that stores "Select Team"-logos, splash screens and ice logos in an easy editable manner, preferrably with bookmark references for tile molester, including palette bookmarks. If not, there should be one ROM like that so that everyone could easily make their own versions of leagues and stuff. Also loving the net crease in the NHL 2010 I tried.... The NHL 2010 and NHL 2011 ROMs both have the splash screens stored in the bin in a wysiwyg manner... So, if there could be a reference for offsets and palettes it would be very good for people not having much coding skills to make new versions
  7. Okay, thanks. If I use the 30 team rom, then I could change them? I don't know where to get that ROM though... I tried a rom called NHL 94 2011 or something like that. It had custom splash screens and everything editable when I opened it up in TileMolester, however, I don't know if it's possible to play that on actual hardware using the Everdrive MD (SD loader), because it's bigger than 1024kb
  8. Really good screenshots, thanks for sharing! But what if I want to do this on the original ROM? Or, Original ROM (after the checksum fix). Does anyone have the address for the "select teams" logos, splash screens and such for original ROM (good gen v3)? I have references for all the center ice logos that works on the original (chk-fix) rom, maybe that was your post as well.... would be amazing to have the "select team" and splash logos as well, and banners.... Thanks
  9. I want to do custom teams, and I want them in alphabetical order, so for the first team I will substitute the Anaheim's logo with a Swedish teams logo. But does anyone know the code to change the anaheim palette to use the palette from another team? I had a look in the resource wich had a great tutorial on ice logos but it didn't cover this. Another way of doing this, which may or not be easier... if there's an easy fix to change the order team comes up, for example Anaheim Boston Buffalo changing order to something completely custom Penguins (renamed custom team and new logo that fits the penguins palette) Montreal (renamed to custom team #2 and new logo that fits the canadiens palette) etc... Any ideas? Ever seen a topic like that on this board? Thanks in advance!
  10. Thanks, I'll have a closer look. For some reason my XP won't boot up just tonight... have no idea why, computer just reboots. I have Linux on the same drive and it boots just fine...so it can't be hard drive failure (phew) Btw, I found a way to change from decimal to hex... with a single click on the column Should I be in little or big endian mode btw?
  11. Thanks! # 1 Is it easier to have the entire ROM being reset/reboot instead of trying to start from the title screen? # 2 Didn't get that gg:gggg thing. If I find the code that applies when you press button while hovering Auto Goalie, do I change that to 4EB9 followed by reboot code (at gg:gggg which I cannot jump to in my hex software) and then 4E75 at the end? I'm on Mac and I use Hex Fiend. For example 01:3D72 I have to search for 0x13D72 to go to that offset.. so maybe the gg:gggg is a format my software doesn't understand... Is there some kind of hex reference for routines and stuff? 4E75 is the same number used for the checksum fix. And also in NHL 95, I was able to find the checksum thing and tried subbing that with 4E75 and it started up in emulators even after modding random other numbers... Note, I'm trying to do this to NHL 94 rom, so the NHL 95 I just mentioned was just to say that the 4E75 obviously means something, like "false" or whatever UPDATE: I don't know how to search for gg:gggg in my software but I found the same line thanks to your explanation of the offset... However, I suspect I have a different NHL 94.bin rom because the FFFF doesn't start at the same offset. I'm using a ROM from GoodGen V.3 and it works on actual hardware with my Everdrive MD (SD-adapter) http://djoman.dyndns.org/rom-edit/gggggg.gif Maybe I should start off with using the correct ROM. However, it has (!) in the filename and I've always thought that is as "official/unmodded" as it gets...
  12. Currently trying to find the code for the triggering of Auto Goalie/Manual Goalie When I've found that, what's the proper way to "link back" to an earlier address? I read that you can make a link to the end of file where it's just empty space, if you want some additional long code... I have no experienced what so ever in hex, well except from colors... I occasionally write some bash script for my mac and wrap those scripts into an interface. But this hex stuff is completely new so I have no idea if there's any tricks, variables and functions or if it's just raw data so to speak... I'm checking up on the tutorial about how to sniff up the code. Resources are really good on this site, happy to have found it
  13. Only after a game is over can you find "Leave Game" or "Exit Game" in the Pause Menu. I want that button to be available mid-game too... I play NHL 94 on my megadrive and I hate when some setting is accidentally wrong and I have to leave the sofa and reboot the megadrive So I thought, maybe the Auto Goalie/Manual Goalie, located at the bottom of the pause menu mid-game, could be change so that instead of it setting Auto from Manual or vice versa, it would just jump to the code right after the game's title screen.
  14. I found that line of code for the checksum and changed it to 4E75 like on the guide for NHL 94. But I have tried replacing every 0EEC (don't know if NHL 95 has the same ice color as 94 though) and stuff I can find with no luck. Anyone know where to look for the NHL 95 ice color? Look at the screenshot here, the "TV-camera closeup on the face off seen in the upper left corner", notice how the ice is slightly brighter. I want that slightly brighter ice color, those shadow and highlights colors for the NHL 95 game. Nevermind the comments written about wanting those in NHL 94...but, well, if that's possible, let me know how. PS. If there's still no translation being done for Elitserien, I could probably do it.
