  1. Hey sonoffett, how did you fix your hamachi issue? Someone is having a similar problem...

It was a while ago so my memory is a little foggy - I just checked on Google. I think it was the following actions:

    Go to Device Manager

    Expand Network Adapters

Right Click on Hamachi and enable it

Let me know if this helps out!

  2. This is my fault but we are trying to set games up for tomorrow. I'm available all day from early afternoon. Sorry about the delay boys.

No one's fault - we were at a disadvantage with a late start due to an unplayed series. I don't think we are holding up anything either, but it should be finished tomorrow!

  3. Absolutely, last year's Blitz draft a couple guys left cell phone numbers with certain people to get their picks in so their wasn't a long unneeded delay. But you can also download the AIM app on your phone, and be able to keep up with all the draft rumblings while following along with the official GDL XIV aim group blast, just make sure you except invite to the group, and set the aim app to have a notification when a message is recieved. And if you don't want notification every time one of us yahoo's post some ridiculous non sense like zzzzzzzz, or f**k Hokkee, or (mostly me) TRADES! there is a way to set the aim app to send you a text message when you receive a personal message from someone.

This is awesome, thanks for bringing me up to speed! I just DL'd the app. I don't want push notifications since that will be going off all the time, but setting it so I can get a text from a PM is perfect. I couldn't find that just browsing through the app, do you have any insight on how I can adjust that setting?

  4. Awesome thread, probably one of the best ones on this forum regarding game play.

    @sonnoffet

I notice the A button hook often gets penalized, it also leaves you in terrible position if you miss. I think it is rarely used these days. It can be effective in the slot but is actually a risky play quite often.

I think this early in your 94 career the best tip which was said earlier by AJ is to emulate your opponents, and be aware of what's going on.

It's also the most annoying thing ever to play against (redwingdevil was the only guy I ever played who used it)

I use the B check occasionally... I've never gotten the hang of it like some folks have, so I've stuck with the A-hook. I've been using it since 2006.... hooking penalties don't get called at any greater rate than tripping penalties do with B-check.

I only use it in the slot for the most part - it is effective to slow down skaters moving through the slot or guys trying to fire a slapshot. Unlike the C-check you don't move anywhere with A-hook, so you aren't left out of position.

Habs - this is Matt Hurray on my new(ish) account. I stopped using the old one when I realized all of my posts showed up in a Google search for my name. As a teacher, I don't need that publicity!

  5. Been playing since December '93..... joined this site back in Jan of '06.... and I've just learned a ton from this thread!

I've never personally be able to master the B check... I always end up just switching players and looking like a dingus. However I have master the hook (A button) and am curious if anyone else has found it to be effective.

    Matt Hurray's defensive strategy:

    1. On defense, always occupy a forward, never use a defender as you'll just throw them out of position

    2. Sit in the middle as much as possible.

    3. If some dude starts scooting into the middle, hook that sumbitch. It slows down the player, prevents shots and passes, and often results in a lose puck.

If the B and BC strategy isn't working... try A!

p.s. I wish I could add advice on offense, but I struggle enough as it is trying to score.

  6. I really have enjoyed reading people's top 5. I'm surprised that most games mentioned are classic games.... but I find my list is pretty similar with 1 exception

    1. The Last of Us (PS3)

    2. NHL 94 (Genesis)

    3. Tecmo Super Bowl (NES)

    4. Starcraft (PC)

    5. Mario 64 (N64)

#3-5 probably change day to day... but #1 is solidified. The Last of Us was such a great game that it ruined all other games for me afterwards!

  7. Nice, Matt Hurray is back! We're bringing back all the guys from the earlier years. Good to have you active again.

Thanks, glad to be back! I forgot how much I missed this game... at least up until I get wrecked in online competition, haha.

Next step - trying to make the 16 hr round trip for the King of 94 tournament seem feasible. It sounds like you guys had a great time!

  8. 99% of the time it's firewall. Gotta allow GENS through (and Hamachi, I think, but not sure).

usually i have seen that as a firewall issue

Thanks for the feedback. I changed something in the firewall settings.. not sure what, but hopefully next time I try to host it will work. If not I have an idea of what to do. Thanks again!

  9. Hey guys,

I've played a few exhibitions so far, but I've only been able to join. I am having trouble hosting (or at least people are having trouble joining). Perhaps this is a common issue with a simple fix: is there a setting in Gens that needs to be changed or do I potentially need to change my firewall settings (not sure if it is different for hosting vs. joining) ?

    Thanks

  10. Hip Hop Hurray is back... nice! You're making a return the same time I am. Maybe Hali has a class we can take to get set up online... it's been awhile and I don't have the hang of it yet either. Good to see you're back man!

It's great to see all of the familiar faces and names!

A few new Gens friends helped me out - much thanks to Plabax for walking me through the steps to get my first exhibition games in. I hope he is a world champ because I got crushed!

  11. Hello! I'm not exactly new... I played from 2006ish to 2010ish under the name Matt Hurray. I def miss this game. I just DL'd AIM... forgot all my old logins, so:

    AIM - dexpsu83@yahoo.com

I might need help setting up my first game in 4 or 5 years :)

    -Matt

p.s. trying to join Gens fall but I've forgotten my password for that as well, haha
