Hey guys, I've sent out an email about the league..but most of the info is on the site anyways. I'll use the power rankings after the second round is complete to determin a draft order. I was gonna wait until after the third round...but i'd like to assign teams sooner so things can get rolling. once again thank you for your team preference lists and i will still confirm your choice with you before it is posted on the site. cheers.

I picked 50 games for a 20 team league. you play your own division 5 times each for 20 games(creates a great rivalry)...and play every other team in the league twice for the remaining 30 games.

I think the northwest division is by far the toughest. minnesota is near the top this year...that division have three of the best goaliesin the league (fernandez, kirpusoff, luongo)...and edmonton and colorado are never easy games...... EDIT*.....I'm wondering if there should there be a sub forum set up somewhere for 'NHL' discussions or hockey in general?

FF's are incorporated into the power rankings...which to me isn't right but it would've been a lot of work to go through and figure out percentages etc....so for simplicity sake I used their team record to base it on. I'll provide an example later on of how i would handle FF's in a more complex system.(just dont have time at the moment)

Thanks BSdaemon..I'm glad you appreciate the work....and as for a name change...perhaps 'coaches rankings' may best fit... I'm still unsure though on how a player could be the best player in the league and be at the bottom of the list? could you provide an theoretical example?

I think in an ideal situation...I would simply pick a number of games and use that number for your power rankings(say the number of points you got in your last 80 regular season games multplied by the percentage of whatever league(s) you were in...)...and then adjust your score accordingly... say an 'A' player's last 40 regular season games at 30%of total points....and the previous 40 games before that at 10% of total points....and of course if that coach decides to skip a season(either fall or spring) or simply not come back...it would still count as points per 40 games...and with no points their score would deteriorate as it should. of course this would take a lot of time to do by myself or anyone for that matter. If someone wanted to provide me with that info of everyone's record from the time they joined..then i'd certainly do the calculations...volunteers? (crickets chirping) I'll certainly spend some more time thinking about a format that works best for replacement coaches and coaches with multiple teams. I think for the time being I'll leave as is (taking the average score of coaches that have two teams)... BSDaemon, you can always look at the positives....it means you are more likely to pick higher in the draft for the winter league thanks...keep the suggestions coming.

this is fine by me...ill use the current lists to determine team picks and have that coach confirm it before i post it. for those that haven't sent me a list..ill simply ask them for theirs at the time of their pick. I've also sent out an email addressing the league....check your junk mail for it.

yes you can change your list....however...If you don't care what team you get, I can simply use your pick and give you the best ranked team available at the time of your pick. let me know what you would like to do.

the draft order will be updated as the play-offs roll on (the final list will take place after the playoffs are complete). good luck in the rest of your playoff run.

I went by a suggestion that addison made the last time...instead of picking your best team(since you have two)...i took an average of the two teams instead. you're right..it is inaccurate to your skills...just a matter of circumstance...but if you want..i can put your B team back on there.

I'm not sure why a petition was started. You signed up for a league run by dimitry who mentioned he prefered offsides. He also conducted a poll to see where people stood and although the poll shows most don't like offsides, he said this wouldn't make or break his decision. It's his league and he made the decision to have offsides in. I agree with you guys about playing without off sides..I don't like them either and Dimitry may have a change of heart but I don't think a petition was necessary for a league that you knew in advance would probably have offsides.

There's only one NHL team left in every play offs series(GENS and SNES).....Pittsburgh. Perhaps every coach is playing to save the franchise from relocation:)

yeah sorry man..im not sure where the confusion happened but we are not drafting players for this league.....just simply setting the fairest way possible to assign teams from a draft as opposed to a first come, first serve basis. the list is a 'team preference' list which i believe you have provided me a few teams when you first signed up. -Darrell.

thanks for the tips pokerchamp...I thought playing online would be the exactly same as the console but for me it felt a little different....I definately need the practice that is for sure!

I just got my adapter for my controller and decided to see how i stacked up against one of the best..the94kid...lost all 3 games..two of them were beatings...but im glad i know in advance what im in for...lol....

most guys have provided me a list of teams they want..so once i figure out the draft order..ill assign teams based on the 'preference' lists provided(this should be a very quick process once all lists are recieved)....ill send out an email soon to all coaches in regards to everything pertaining to the league.

congrats on your win! must have been tough to come back for game three after getting beat 8-2...especially heading back to vancouver for games 3 and 4.

Great write up man! EDIT* Sometimes I find when I play the game..it literally becomes a guessing game. if im playing against a weaker player you dont have to think about it becuase you know that even if you get scored on, you can come back....but when you are both matched equally in skill you start trying to guess what he's gonna do each offensive and defensive play...whoever guesses right more wins. With 5 minute periods it makes it easier for anyone to beat anyone on any given day as opposed to 10 or 20 minute periods. Glad to hear you had fun...cause there's a select few that still seem to miss that point.
