  1. I put up the V2's. Hopefully I got most of the obvious errors out of there while putting in new updates. Also fixes 97 goalie handedness.
  2. 89 deadline upped. DEADLINE 89 Notes on the season and the rom: -This was the first season for Gretzky in LA. The effect was dramatic, as the Kings changed their logo and colors, and Gretzky took the team from 4th from the bottom, to 4th from the top, adding a victory over the Oilers in the first round of the playoffs. Bernie Nicholls certainly enjoyed having Gretzky aroud, scoring 70 goals and 150 points. For all this, Gretzky won his 9th (and final) MVP award. -Mario Lemieux actually led the league with 199 points--the highest total ever by anyone not named Gretzky. -Calgary won the cup and are the best team in this ROM, with Gilmour and Mullen up front, MacInnis and Suter on D, and a Vezina runner-up season from Mike Vernon. Awards Art Ross Trophy - Mario Lemieux Calder Memorial Trophy - Brian Leetch Conn Smythe Trophy - Al MacInnis Frank J. Selke Trophy - Guy Carbonneau Hart Memorial Trophy - Wayne Gretzky James Norris Memorial Trophy - Chris Chelios Vezina Trophy - Patrick Roy I'm also finishing the process of touching up all the old releases to V2, with roster fixes and a few graphics updates.
  3. Wow, I love those graphics hacks. The bench with the goalie and coaches and announcers is epic. Any chance of making them available as standalone patches?
  4. Thanks for the comments. I appreciate the feedback actually. -Regarding goalie handedness, I imported the goalies from '97 via NOSE. I was not aware that '97 was bugged there, so I inadvertently carried over that bug. I'll have to fix that. -Regarding Washington's 92 team rating, that also sounds like a mistake for me to fix (ditto for TOR's 93). Fortunately team rating is meaningless as far as I know, and the numbers are plucked off the top of my head roughly considering regular season and playoff finish when editing the ROM. -I briefly messed around with player photos, but quickly decided the amount of time to find player photos, prep them for import, and import them in TM simply wasn't worth the time. I didn't see a streamlined process for all that. -Creases are another thing I didn't get around to and wasn't sure how to do. Maybe I'll re-visit that if there are good guides or patches to work with since I really only know how to do things that are explicitly explained on these forums.
  5. I think I've gotten most of the new bugs out, so I'm gonna upload these now. Let me know if you notice any graphics bugs, or obvious roster issues. Deadline '92 Highlights from the 1991-92 NHL season; -Pittsburgh over Chicago for their second straight cup. -San Jose enters the league, the first expansion squad since the 1979 and NHL-WHA merger. -Awards; Hart - Messier Norris - Leetch Vezina - Roy Calder - Bure -Leaders; Goals - Hull, 70 Assists - Gretzky, 90 Points - Lemieux, 131 Deadline 97 Highlights from the 1996-97 NHL season; -Detroit sweeps the Flyers in the Stanley Cup finals. -Awards; Hart - Hasek Norris - Leetch Vezina - Hasek Calder - Berard -Leaders; Goals - Tkachuk, 52 Assists - Gretzky/Lemieux, 72 Points - Lemieux, 122 Notes on ROM: -Player ratings taken from NHL 98, although I felt it necessary to tone down some players who were high 90s or over 100 overall. -Lots of dynamic duos in this ROM; Lindros-LeClair, Kariya-Selanne, Tkachuk-Roenick, Zhamnov-Amonte, Forsberg-Sakic, Gretzky-Messier, Jagr-Lemieux, Turgeon-Hull, Mogilny-Bure
  6. They are called "deadline" because the rosters are set as of the trade deadline of each season. Basically the same thing as a "playoff" rom, just a name to differentiate these roms from the others. I don't have much interest in Olympic version, although maybe a big project at some point including Olympic teams from several Olympics would be neat. That won't be happening any time soon though. All my editing is done in NOSE, Tilemolester, and SMOZ's programs. They open fine in NOSE. Maybe you have an old version of NOSE. Try this one; http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/14217-nose-12b-download/ .
  7. I'm actually putting the finishing touches on 92 rom, and plan to do 97 next, I expect that to go pretty quickly as I can just use stock NHL 98 player ratings, instead of having to review each player individually which took a lot of time for 87 and 92.
  8. So I got a little more ambitious this time; Deadline 87! Notes on the season and the rom: -Player ratings were quite a challenge, but it was very helpful if the player went on to appear in the EA games in the 90s. Generally speaking, total points=offensive awareness, shot%=shot accuracy, assists=passing, PIMs=roughness/aggressiveness, points/"point shares"=overall rating. Regarding things behind the stats like shooting power, or speed, or checking, had to do some guesswork there. -This season, Gretzky won his 8th straight MVP. He led the league with 62 goals. Remarkably, even if he had not scored a single goal, he still had enough assists to win the scoring title. So yeah, he's pretty good in this rom. -The Oilers plowed through the regular season and playoffs before being pushed to 7 by the Flyers in the finals. The Flyers were pretty damn good too; Hextall (Vezina and Conn Smythe), Poulin (Selke), Kerr (58 goals, 2nd behind Gretzky), Howe (Norris runner-up behind Bourque). -There was no all-star game, but rather a two game series of NHL All-stars versus Russia in "Rendez Vous 87." These teams are in this rom. I really had to guess at rating some Russian players, although 11 players on Russia's roster actually appear in NHL 94. I also threw in Team Canada and Team USA from the '87 Canada Cup for good measure!! -Many past stars such Bossy, Salming, Linseman, Federko, Langway, Dionne and Robinson are found, and some are still pretty effective. Other guys like Trottier, Savard, Goulet, Statsny and Mullen are much closer to their prime than in 94. -Lots of green in jerseys for Minnesota and Hartford, and eye-popping yellow jerseys for LA and VAN. Enjoy!
  9. NHL 95 Deadline rom available. 94 re-upped as well to add ingame banners, rosters and other bug fixes. The 1995 season: -NHL lockout shortens the season to the 48 games -Detroit and Quebec have the best regular season records, but Quebec is bounced in the first round and NJ sweeps Detroit in the cup finals. -The Legion of Doom line is born, and Eric Lindros wins MVP. He is a beast in this game. Jaromir Jagr and Zhamnov other top scorers with very high ratings. -There is no allstar game, and this rom contains no allstar teams. -Mario Lemieux sits out the whole seaon, and is not in this rom. -Peter Forsberg wins rookie of the year. Paul Kariya also debuts, and Jim Carey (!) is a Vezina contender as a rookie. New look for Calgary, Oilers jerseys go darker. Yay, in-game banners.
  10. I've had success following just about all the guides here, but I didn't see any tips on changing the font of the number and position that shows when you are controlling players on the ice. Did I miss that?
  11. NHL 94 Deadline Rom available. Notes of the 1993-94 season and this rom; -The Rangers had by far the best record in the league and beat the Canucks in 7 games to take the cup. The Rangers are probably the best team in this rom (lookout for big improvements on Kovalev and Zubov!) -Sergei Fedorov won MVP, and he is rated very high here. Modano is also a beast per his NHL '95 rating. -Brodeur won the rookie of the year. Other notable rookies include Yashin, Renberg, Pronger. -Hasek won his first of 6 Vezinas. He and Tkachuk are 2 of the most improved players from their original NHL '94 rating. -The conferences were formally renamed Eastern and Western. 12. See my new thread for big rom update, with hopefully more to come http://forum.nhl94.com/index.php?/topic/15608-my-deadline-roms/
  13. Picking up from my other thread, starting a new thread for a pretty big update to my 1994 rom, which will hopefully be followed by a few others roms for different years. I re-did everything into the 30 team rom, allowing for full graphic editing. I'm also calling them "deadline" roms because clockwise already has his "playoffs" thing going and he's doing more than me. Anyway, each rom will feature; -Edited graphics and text, including startup screens, logos, scoreboard -All rosters updated to the trade deadline of the specific year of release. Ratings also edited to reflect performance of that season. -Player pictures for every starter -Team ratings, home/away, and PP/PK effect updated based on season performance. -Full uniform editing per nhluniforms.com -Period accurate crease/rink -Hacks including weight bug fix, clockwise sprite edit, halved speed burst effect Download links in this post, summary for each rom in posts below when I finish the rom. DeadlineV4.zip contains all 7 roms--87, 89, 92, 94, 95, 97 and 99. deadlineV4.zip
  14. I didn't realize the jerseys were inaccurate in the original game. I'm on the road this week but I will take a look at all the jerseys when I get back.
  15. I have some free time on my hands these days and a new Nvidia Shield in my pocket, so I came back 'round these parts for the first time in several years. I saw all these new rom hacking tools and decided to mess around with them, and the result was this rom. I'm don't know if it's all all that different from minpind's rom which I haven't tried and I was basically just experimenting with the new tools, but may as well upload... NHL 94 Playoffs Edition (an NHL 94 rom) Features -Rosters and player ratings updated to reflect rosters as they were for the 1994 playoffs. Player ratings for many players were imported from the stock NHL 95 rom as those ratings reflect how the player actually performed in the 1993-94 season. Some of the biggest beneficiaries of these rating updates were Keith Tkachuk and Dom Hasek. This also means rookies come in as well, notably Marty Brodeur, Chris Pronger, Jason Arnott and Mikael Renberg. Many teams will feel slightly tweaked, some will be improved (NJ, Rangers), others will be completely overhauled (Ottawa), and some virtually unchanged (Toronto). -Weight bug fix -Speed burst effect halved -Improved 3 stars formula by Smoz -Clockwise sprite sticks/eyes hack -5/7/10 min periods -Team data updated. Teams' overall point rating reflect performance from the 1993-94 season/playoffs. PP and PK rating for each team will match their league rank from the season, as does their home/away effect. Not Included -Any other graphic hacks. This edit was based on the original rom, and I understand it to be a pain in the ass to change start screens and such in this rom. -Player portraits will match players, but no new ones have been created. If the player did not have a portrait in the original rom, he does not have one here. -I did not put much care into setting up full team lines, so watch out if you use line changes. "Beta" version download attached. (basically complete, just leaving room for fixes/adjustments) Comments/suggestions/tips welcome. Enjoy. I also may make "playoff editions" from surrounding seasons, as it would pretty easy to do that from this base. NHL94playoffs.bin
  16. Check that, the game may have come out in October rather than September. I found the October 93 issue of EGM as well. The game was reviewed and listed an October release date; http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/228/aa9p.jpg And just for fun, an ad from that issue; http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/185/6vqz.jpg http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/8524/9l8m.jpg PuckJunk; Emailing you all those scans now...
  17. Not to be defeated, I found scans of the September 1993 issue of EGM!! Pages 40-41, "Games of September" http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/1796/apzg.jpg http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/6914/k6gp.jpg Pages 122-123, EA advertisement, "Electronic Arts unveils NHL '94." http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9043/bhnj.jpg http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/8779/jcal.jpg As far as I am concerned, this is CONFIRMED. NHL 94 came out in September 1993. I have no idea why everyone is saying March 15 release date.
  18. Well, unfortunately my old magazine collections was very spotty before 1995. The best I can do was issues of EGM from July 1993 and January 1994. Either way, this ad appears in the July 93 issue; http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/5007/wk7l.jpg Also, if you are old to remember those days, in the back of these magazines was several pages of mail order game companies. None of those companies listed NHL 94 as available for order in the July 1993 issue. One example; http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/8433/n9yv.jpg By January 1994, NHL94 was listed as available, but still had the asterisk meaning it still might not be released yet! http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/8201/7u63.jpg So with only 2 issues to work with, I didn't get the smoking gun of a mag or ad plainly stating a release date, but it's pretty clear the game was NOT available in July 1993.
  19. I'm glad someone else is pointing this out. Ever since that NHL.com promotion in March, I keep seeing this March 93 release date and I felt like I was taking crazy pills as that made no sense to me. -The internet says NHLPA 93 came out in December 92. You're telling me NHL 94 came out 4 months later? -The expansion draft occurred in June 93, as pointed out above. There is no way EA could've "guessed" Anaheim would take Lonnie Loach with the 42nd pick, for instance. -No way EA could've known stanley cup finalists (also pointed out above) -Lastly, I distinctly remember being in 7th grade at the time in the fall of 93, and I was on a week long field trip for school. I was dying to get NHL 94, and I remember being pissed the game came out that week and I was stuck at this field trip/nature school thing. I wanted this game so much I bought a Genesis just for this game because the SNES of version of NHLPA 93 was crap and I wanted the best version of 94. Next time I'm at my parents' house I am going to dig out my old stacks of videogame magazines and find the summer/fall issues that preview this game for a fall release that I must've re-read 1000x times. A March 93 release date is inexplicable. There's just no way.
  20. IMO, I would go 6 power and 5 accuracy for Hull. Roenick is only one of 3 players with 5/5 shots in 94 (Ciccarelli and Sandstrom being the other 2), but what makes Roenick so dominant is his super-lightweight and speed. Neither of those are a factor for Hull, so he will play more like Ciccarelli than Roenick. And really, look at the scoring leaders from that season; 1 Brett Hull, St. Louis............ 86 2 Steve Yzerman, Detroit........... 51 2 Cam Neely, Boston................ 51 2 Theoren Fleury, Calgary.......... 51 5 Mike Gartner, NY Rangers......... 49 Hull deserves to be on another level. My initial impressions of this rom are really great. I was wondering how you'd come down with the ratings, but so far I like what I see.
  21. Haven't tried this yet, but this looks incredible. Great work!
  22. I use GAIM exclusively, which has the feature to sign on multiple names at once for various IM services. http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
  23. I have the PC NHL games on my computer, and occasionally fire up dosbox to play. "NHL Hockey" for DOS equals NHL 94 for consoles. The best DOS version to play actually is "NHL Hockey 95," because on the ice it basically keeps the same graphics and gameplay from the 94 console versions, but adds more features. Both DOS versions however play a bit more 'sim' like, with slower gameplay, better goalies, slower shots (particularly onetimers), as well as other features such as season mode, 4 lines...etc.
  24. First off, gotta give a shout to KG. This was an amazing series, and as much fun as I've ever had playing 94. Simply phenomenal stuff. Game 1 - HFD 5-4 (OT) Still reeling from the 1st period loss of Roenick for the game, the game heads into 3rd 1-1. Chicago scores on 2 quick penalty shots at beginning of 3rd to go up 3-1. After an untimely disconnect breaks up the game, Chicago goes up 4-1 but Larmer is also knocked out for period. Seeing blood in the water, KGman storms back with 3 goals in last 2 minutes, and ultimate prevails in OT. Game 2 - CHI 6-3 Chicago comes out in this game with a vengeance, storming out to 5-0 lead. As is becoming the pattern, KGman answers with 3 in 3rd to make it 5-3, until Chicago settles it down and holds on for victory. Games 3 & 4, HFD 3-4 & CHI 5-4 There really isn't much that can be said other than these were the best games of 94 that I've been a part of. Constant end-to-end action, great saves, and games literally coming down to the buzzer. Game 5, HFD 4-2 WIth the series now a best of 3, KGman goes ahead with 2 brilliant onetimers off phenomenal passes by Terry Yake. Joe Murphy does his best to counter Yake's heroics, after rampaging through 2 HFD puck carriers and scoring on a floater. A late onetimer by Murphy however finds the post, and KGman finishes the game off. Game 6, CHI 5-4 Facing elimination, Chicago shows their resiliency and plays most of the game in front. KGman conjures up another 3rd period comeback, erasing a 5-2 3rd period deficit, but Zalapski's slapper finds the glass in the last 5 seconds. Game 7, CHI 5-2 With everything on the line, Chicago is devastated by the loss of Roenick for the game less than 2 minutes into the first period. Larmer however slides over to center, and comes up with the performance of his life, banging in all 5 Chicago goals, including a back-breaking 3rd period goal when Chicago was shorthanded 2 men. A vintage performance by Belfour in the 3rd staves off another furious finish by KGman.
