  1. IF Kovalenko keeps getting drafted ahead of Sandstrom, you are going to have to stop calling him elite. There has to be at LEAST 12 "top" coaches out of 24, and possibly a few more, so that's at LEAST 24 picks in the first 36 picks to get picked in front him for him to end up #38. (#13-24 plus #25-36 assuming top coaches finish in the top half) Hardly elite if he can't be drafted by you or anyone else in the top 36. Elite is 1st round material in any draft in any league in any formula, especially in a league where you only play with the first 6 rounds anyhow. It is by the word's definition to not be the #38th pick in anything for it to be elite.
  2. I think you missed the process a bit. I can only hope that's what it is. A trade is made that goes outside the parameters established for triggering a review by the committee. They take into consideration the formula's score for the trade, but more so, look at the overall trade & if it's fair enough to go by, or is worth vetoing. I'm assuming they take a vote, and pass the trade or veto it. The formula does not veto a trade, nor does one troll. In fact, the way I understood the process here to be the trade is reviewed at the committee's discretion. In some leagues I've been in, the committee won't look at a trade until ONE team protests the trade first. The idea of using the forumla to evaluate whether a trade needs to be reviewed is probably simpler than waiting for a league member to protest a trade, in all actuality.
  3. Most committee's are 3 or more people, especially in league's that use a voting process to handle veto of trades. I'm referring to the tens of thousands of leagues out there that have a reverse order draft & trades in not only this game, but fantasy baseball, hockey, football, & basketball. This is the common practice in any fantasy league, and rarely is handle by just "noise" of the league teams crying foul or a commissioner solely stepping in. The committee is used to avoid the appearance of unfairness or grudges/personal issues playing a role in a decision, or even worse, trying to keep the deck stacked in your own team's favor by veto'ing a trade. Not exactly sure how someone elected/appointed to be on the committee is suddenly going to turn themselves into a troll, but would probably STILL require the help of at least one other member to also go "troll" on the trading parties. All highly unlikely scenario you are painting, and just sounds foolish right now. It almost seems you have a false motive in half your points, that make that little sense to me. Also, the part where you state Raph is trying to f&ck everyone only further highlights to me the need to have a preset committee that rules on protested trades, to prevent all the post trade accusations you would be making on any move Raph makes, which is already the implication on how he unfairly landed a Sandstrom from you earlier.
  4. I think it would be interesting to do as a post-draft analysis, to have every coach play at least one game w/ each of the other 23 teams against anybody and submit a review/ranking of the teams he played with and expected results. This could even be done post-season in the "interim" of the off-season. Something to compare the seasons too, and I think it would add to the draft lore. One of the issues with post-draft/trades, completed ROMS get ranked mainly by results, which are much more coach skill related than the actual team for at least 20-25% of the overall value. (Maybe the number is higher/lower, but either way, a straight GM analysis of the draft's skills can't be done based off results.
  5. I don't understand how in MULTIPLE drafts if a guy getting picked 38-40 is WORTH MORE than that, one of the "experts" wouldn't then PICK him higher, instead of letting him fall down to a RAPH. For this to work for Raph, you would need collusion of all the top coaches, including yourself! Surely, you had a few picks before 38 & could have taken him. He is an elite shooter. If you don't have the guys who are light & fast to get the puck into the position to pass it to him for a one timer, you aren't going to score. Plus, he's not fast or light enough to dominate on the defensive end, so that's another reason he falls down, imo. No one is going to lead the league in scoring w/ Courtnall, but there are other shooters Raph is going to draft in the "shooter" draft spot. I'm not missing the point, imo. Another example. In fantasy football, if you have a very good team, and ALSO have the best tight end, your overall score goes goofy, and teams go, f&ck, can't beat the guy cause he's got a tight end giving him all those points. But, if you run off and draft a tight end in the first round of the draft, your team will ALWAYS, ALWAYS suck. So, being the guy who gets the good tight end as late as possible before the other guys do, is always a draft strategy. Another example is a closer in fantasy baseball drafts. Draft one in the FIRST round, and your team just blows. But, draft one too late, and you are f&cked, but get one as late as possible while building a good team from the other needed positions, and you have a top team.
  6. You have KGman OUT & confirmed on the waiting list. Are there two KGMAN's, or did he bump himself out of the league to the bottom or the wait list or is this an error?
  7. I'm excited to get to draft my own team. Let's get back to that ROLL CALL! Who is still missing?
  8. I was recently in SNES Puck Dynasty Auction. It's amazing how much confusion was going on because almost every coach in the league had never been through an "auction". Having been in several fantasy baseball auctions over the years, I had a large advantage, and anyone who plays with that ROM and uses my team admits the evidence is clearly there (unfortunately, my play doesn't always reflect that edge!!!). So, I understand wanting to make sure no one has a huge edge by getting awesome trades in. GDL is MUCH MUCH more experienced, and should have almost no confusion, minus the new guys & some of the lower end guys that need to be protected from themselves I like the idea of any trade by noobs or low winning percentages (guys like me) being triggered for review and the formula also triggering review. I do understand the fear. One bad trade to a top guy can completely tip the scale for the other 4-5 contenders and ruin the experience. I will note that Carse was supposed to be unstoppable after all the trades went through last season, and did win north of the .800 percentage (amazing in itself), but was not in the GDL X Finals.
  9. GGMS raph. Is it me or is this dude getting even better of late?? I've been playing & losing to Raph for a little over half a year now (he seems to be on when I'm on more times than not), and I'm starting to notice an uptick in the overall game. Mostly, the nasty accuracy of an occasional B shot. It's usually only a goal a game, but that one extra goal always makes all the difference.
  10. I'll weigh in here on something. First off, the best players are not always the best GM's. The elite coach just make that teams/players perform the best. Some guys put a player on their roster with the right guys, and he leads the league in scoring. Sandstrom is going to lead the league in scoring w/ Raph using them on that roster, but not cracking top 20 with half of the guys in the league or with some of the other rosters that were out there. Second, I'm not stating the top guys who have been playing in the league DO NOT know who all the best players are, have gone through the drafting process numerous times and made several trades, and are acclimated to that climate. It's an obvious edge. A scoring system that is effective as a guide certainly doesn't do a ton of harm, unless in the end, you can show it's stopping noobs from making good trades, because they think they are getting the worse end of the deal, and don't do it, or make bad trades because it scores good for them. Maybe put a rule in to review ANY trade made with a team below .500 or under NOOB status. I do agree w/ Plabax that the Blitz ROM had taken out the "weight bug" & also added in checking, so it was easier to navigate through a players projected value for the lesser player. This guy plays D, this guy scores, this guy is fast, etc. and the value of average draft position probably would be closer to the players actual value with a ROM like that. For me, the formula wouldn't be used to figure out IF I'd do the deal, but I wouldn't object to it triggering a review of my trade(s).
  11. The problem you run into is you don't know how many guys are going to cut their player(s) & take the cap hit. It 100% changes the landscape if you are looking for a goalie and suddenly ROY pops back on the board, as in the last auction. I think a more limited auction (less players available), should lessen the chance for confusion right off the bat.
  12. And Ogre in the background yelling "Nerds" being subbed in as "Noobs".
  13. I'm for the system they used the last 10 seasons. IMO, the one in place usually works "well enough". I've think enough opinions came on all sides of these fences to prove you are never gonna make everyone happy anyhow, so still with what was working. ***This also benefits me. Which is the best part of most people's opnions, as they RARELY go against their best interest ****
  14. If I'd known he was so neurotic about it, I would have held out for a draft pick!
  15. Just happy to actually be drafting my OWN team in a league for once. Seems like I'm always the sub in some league for the past year until Mac's '93 league just now & was able to do my own team in the auction dynasty snes league recently.
  16. Should do a draft for team name(s) w/ best record first, which would put me on the end of the list, but give some reward for better records, and a chance to snatch your rivals city if you beat them on a given year!!! I don't care if I'm Montreal, North Stars or anyone else. Dickon is Chicago, where I'm from, so "home" option is out. I like Tampa better than the North Stars, but like San Jose (might be available) even more, but I don't really care enough to make any issues. Just figure if you are selling the "trade with me so I can be my home team" and then dumping them a few days later, seems weird. Not, trade me, I like Habs better than Minnesota, do you care, type thing.
  17. Hold on, not that I really give a f&ck on many levels here, but gonna have to put some feet to the fire. Am I getting myself confused or didn't I just trade you Montreal so you could be your home town team??
  18. I'll toss my hat in the ring. Look for me later tonight or some time Sunday there bud.
  19. This whole conversation makes much more sense to me now
  20. WTF?!?!?! mOTHERF&CKER foiled again Batman.
  21. I've had issues w/ Gretzkyonacold of late, but don't recall playing you LA Robbie. In fact, unless you were in GDL, I don't ever recall playing you at all, ever. Not saying we wouldn't have those above Hamachi issues if we did play. We can test it some time this week if you want. My connection w/ Probob the other day was not a desynch issue, just straight lag. He's always had some lag though.
  22. Thanks bud. More than good enough for me, as I don't have to go searching now But, on the technical... FYI, the link from the BLITZ '94 LEAGUE still goes to the old site. Blitz website goes to proper site & the Blitz old site goes to proper site. And the Blitz Waiting List goes to the wrong/old link.
  23. To be clear, this is beginning of last year when I first found the site, and was not actually playing any of you online yet. I was playing my local friends via Hamachi, and trying to get around the desynchs, so we were trying to get the direct IP connect to work. I didn't find out about plugging directly into the router to avoid desynchs until I joined the Classic last spring, and it worked well enough for me to not go back to trying it. I was stating that I was using wireless at that time because I don't know if that added an extra level of complications to setting this direct IP connect or not. It wasn't an easy 5 minute thing to do for me at that time, required router passwords and all kinds of jazz I didn't have in front of me at 1 am and it was painful enough for me to NOT have gone back to find out since. But, I do plug my computer into the router before I play, and once in a blue moon, get one fellow I can't connect to, despite being able to connect to all the other dudes online through Hamachi.
  24. Would it be possible to change the nhl94.com home page to have the proper link for Blitz's new website?
