  1. So the range in "4" is 80 to 63 right? So one "4" could be almost 20 pts faster than another 4?
  2. I wonder with the different emulation if it makes the AI do different things. I know at the last Tecmo Madison we used quite a bit of new 3rd party NES systems and some of the better players complained that long bomb throws weren't working as well on those systems.
  3. So if two Doug Gilmours were on the ice the 4/4 rating could be different between them because of multipliers? I think i read somewhere that the actual rating when checking line up aren't accurate?
  4. Thanks @smozoma Liked all the traffic to posting, too bad it was all about Covid19 and infowars
  5. Update: originally scheduled for Aug 2020 then world went to crap. But now it's this October 14-15 2022. See bottom post for updated info Thought I'd make a more official post here as we are months away now for the NHL 95 World Championship. Would love to have more buds join us. Ask questions here and feel free to reach out.. Gonna copy/pasta from what I have at http://www.segathon.com/nhl95worldchampionship/ NHL 95 World Championship http://www.segathon.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/NHL-95-Tribes-MapRetro.jpg Where: Toronto Waves Egaming When: 2021 Who: NHL 95 Tribes from across the World from USA, Canada and Finland THE STORY: Many kids in the 90’s grew up playing the NHL series on the Sega Genesis (and Super Nintendo) and have fond memories of it. Leagues in college dorms and one night tourneys sprouted up among friends…..and some of those events are still happening today 25 years later. The plan is for all of the NHL 95 Tribes to unite for one large Tournament on August 1st in Toronto at Waves Egaming. You have a crew of buds that want to make the pilgrimage? Send the Commish an Email at nhl95_a_thon@yahoo.com and we can add your to the tribe list. BELOW ARE THE TRIBES OF 95 http://www.segathon.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/presidents-day-segathon.jpg Segathon: Tourneys started in 2003. 10-25 guys mostly from same home town in Minnesota play a 1 night tourney for the Belt. www.segathon.com http://www.segathon.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/NHL95_Boston_Semi_Team_Photo.jpg Michigan/ Boston: Been holding Tourneys since College as well, and also compete for a Belt. When I googled NHL 95 they came up and saw their funny event recaps, reason we made segathon.com http://www.segathon.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/giphy-300x263.gif Other Tribes Not Pictured Yet: New Jersey Tribe: that made the treck all the way to Madison Wisconsin for a NHL 95 Tourney Deer Hunt Camp Tribe: in the Hinterlands of Canada that play while chasing Wild Game Riker’s Island Rules Camp: A Deranged group that plays 20 Minutes Periods There are many other NHL 95ers out there from St Louis, to Weezer Tour bus to Parts Unknown etc. Currently having a United Nations Email Chain between ranking Tribes to figuring out details, here is what we have so far VENUE Waterloo has booked Waves E Gaming in Toronto http://www.segathon.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/waves-set-up-94-300x225.jpg https://wavesegaming.ca/ Event Fee, looks $15 a person for venue, right now but that could change. May add a shirt for event etc. There will be no Prize money though, just bragging rights They have a bunch of old school Tube TVs so we will be playing how the game was meant to be played. BOOZE AND FOOD. We have a beer sponsor and working on to make sure we get a license for the weekend Looking into a food truck RULES Below is tentative, could change but this is where we are at right now Round robin with 8 pools (depending on how many players, we’ll divy up the pools accordingly. So it might be 8 pools of 4, or 5 , or 6 etc). Play each person in your pool once in the round robin. Top 4 from each pool moves on to 32 team elimination bracket. First two rounds are best 2 out of 3 Quarters, semis and finals best 3 out of 5 5 minutes periods Manual goalies No penalties, no offsides, no line changes Madison Rules – so one player picks the two teams, and the other guy gets to choose which one he wants to use.
  6. Bumping this Oldie So In NHL 95, Stick Handling ratings are different instead of 0-6 HEX they are 0-F. Wondering why they would of done that? One thing I noticed is Jeremy Roenick has the highest Hex Rating of "D" the next highest rating is "A" for players. But both D and A are rated as a 81-98 rating in NOSE Maybe they made him just a tad bit better than everyone else.
  7. Sure thing Raph, I'll send him a DM. I'd even call out the Movie Swingers right away for those who may not pick up on the joke.. Not exactly sure how to word it though. Troy, I think the majority of people that have fond memories about the 16 bit era of their childhood remember the NHL series in general. From my talks with people most played/owned more than one version. Got to remember we are in a superfans bubble, most people haven't given this game much thought since they had pimples on their back. Even in the Swingers Movie, they talked about how the programmers took out fighting because kids were hitting each other but you can still make a guys head bleed. Not correct as both were removed but most people remember that and think it's correct, because again they haven't played the game since they stopped buying OXY pads.
  8. Here's the link https://tecmobowl.org/forums/topic/63039-madison-wi-030715-tecmo-xi-apocalipps-now/page/13/?tab=comments#comment-432510 He went by hoigaard on boards, but his non nerd name is Ryan Krebs, I can connect you on the F book if you want, he's a pretty cool guy, I think he used to run the NY tecmo scene originally so he's in your neck of the woods. Love the swingers reference, I think that is the key connector to most NHL retro guys Nostalgia. I'd probably mention that movie right away. And i'd put your reference up near the top like "you're not going to win the tourney, even if you took the Kings to the cup against the computer with offsides off. LA is such a finesse team...." And then you could tie in Swingers again at the end as well with something like "So let’s enjoy the day to play some NHL’94, and talk about how you wish you could make Lil Wayne Gretzky's head bleed for super fan 99 over here"
  9. Nostalgia is a powerful drug, when I mentioned I play retro sports game tourneys to guys of a similar age their eyes light up. But I have also seen that light get extinguished playing one of us superfans when we need to get a good "Point Diff" so we get a better seed come playoffs. Sure Raph and AJ are 800 lb gorillas but most of on here can do some damage to a guy who hasn't played in years and their stiffest competition was their litter brother To get those nonsuper fans in the mood, I may even say first game is against computer to see how many goals you can score and then sort people starting there. Plus everyone should go 1-0 for first game! Also what Raph said initially is a great point, have your buds come with, make it a fun night out more than a serious tournament. With all that being said us Superfans are the guys that keep this crazy game relevant for all these years. Also did some digging, a Tecmo Bud did this post years ago and I think works here as well here too
  10. Good Stuff Raph Yeah it comes down to playing a game we loved as a kid and going to these events you normally meet some pretty great people with the same interests. I think having more events with Duke style as an option is key. I couldn't make it out to the MN tourney last week, and told my crew about it and a few expressed interest, but in the end they didn't want to pay the event fee to get their butt kicked. They still have flashbacks from a tecmo tourney I brought them too where they said the other players made roster changes so quick from muscle memory that they just saw a flickering screen.
  11. reads headline... I do enjoy genesis Madden, enjoy Mutant League Football even more. Even bought some cheap madden genesis to see if we could get a tourney going. No takers yet. Even though the old maddens did not have player names, I liked those more than the late Maddens like 97. Just need to have short quarters though as I remember the games can take a while if I remember correctly
  12. @kingraphDon't practice, we treat NHL 95 like Hockey players in the 1960s, where there is a big offseason where you don't practice/train and have a normal job. Ironing out the plan right now for the event with the local toronto guys. will post something on this board soon. It will be at Waves Egaming, in Toronto over the Aug 1st Weekend. I Want to see you 94 guys there,, but if we hear 95 sucks we will make you do a body shot off our hairiest NHL 95 participant.
  13. probably smallest just to see the effect it has.
  14. Great work and very interesting. Looking forward to trying out. After 94 EA shrunk the goals/widened the goalies hit box in 95. Never really noticed until recently playing some 94 manual goalie and realized how much more ground you have to cover to prevent goals going in.
  15. So glad he didn’t take segathong otherwise I would of had to sink a container of embroidered thongs in the harbor
  16. How did you know my password was BigMommaTitties ???
  17. Our Host NHL 95 Tribe has booked Waves Egaming for 8/1/2020. Hope they cleaned up all the used hypodermic needles and sweated through spanx from King of 94 by then...
  18. I want to do good but the evil is always present. I was playing 94 the week on the King, things were great. I was brushing my teeth, going to work and playing 94. But just when things were looking up I hear a guy in an alley say "Wanna get some 95???" Next thing I knew I woke up 3 days later covered in NHL 95 games in a dumpster wearing different cloths that were not mine. All jokes aside. Great work you guys on the King Weekend. It was a blast to watch online. It's on my bucket list to attend some day.
  19. Yeah the Drone Penalties are killer and random I think the only way to enforce would be pausing and switching to auto goalie which kinda kills flow of game.
  20. So what do you think of this wrinkle to game play? I always thought being on the power play isn't that much of an advantage in the 16 bit version of game. So to give the power play more oomph what do you think about "no manual goalie" for team on penalty kill rule? I like it a lot, but my biggest worry is can it be enforced during the heat of the game. What would be the penalty if someone switched to goalie during PK?
  21. I need some player previews or something so I can live vicariously through you guys. Whats OG champs Mikael's odds. Does he have the juice or did we win in a time when players smoked darts between periods?
