Both Genesis and Sega CD play slower than emulator.  Your first game or two will feel like you're playing in mud or something, but you get adjusted fairly quickly after an exi or two.

In that sense, playing on Kega Fusion is more realistic than GENS.

Aha, so then it just wasn't my weird sense of timing thinking that the emulator seemed a bit faster than the Genesis.

I added you into the group chat for GENS Buds.  It's best way to find someone to exi and have someone walk you through the hamachi setup.  I don't think you need to wait for any email, so you are doing something wrong.

I'm not going to be around to help out though, so hop online when you have time and have someone walk you through it.

ALSO, set your AIM to accept messages even when you aren't online, makes it easier to leave you a message.

    Awesome, thanks Brutus.

  3. If there is a chance I can do this, I will. Having to finance my bands recording and new album, I am stretched pretty thin anyway, along with the normal bills. I still can't wrap my head around that $10k prize. Someone will be able to eat and live for a few days on that :)

Can't say I agree with this.

You should jump into online play.  Exis to start.  If you play solo 100 games versus against opponents 100 games, you will improve exponentially better against real opponents in the same amount of time.

Just jump in, amigo!  Download AIM and come on in!

Aqua, you're right. Human players are the way to go over the CPU. I just have to get the feel of the movement of the players again. My fingers were way ahead of my head of thinking there ;)

LTNINGFan1 is my AIM. I hope I can get Hamachi set up.

In previous years, they would RUN Classic during the Spring & during the Fall.  Most new players joined one of them, as it required no drafting, etc.  Just pick a team & play.

As part of the sign up for either of these leagues there was a confirmation page where another veteran player would "verfiy" you by playing you online, establishing you then obviously have hamachi, downloaded & working emulator along with joystick figured out.

This spring, they are NOT running Classic.  If any NEW coaches wanted to jump into the fire of a given league, EACH league has it's own commissioner who is running the league and determines who is IN & who is OUT.   So, you'd reach out to one of them if you were ready/interested.

I'd start with doing some ONLINE exi's.  It's fun, it's easy, and we all did it and got killed.  It takes a few beatings to feel the rush and realize what you probably do better than you thought & what you did worse.

Best way to do that is to get added to either the GENS Group Chat or the SNES Group Chat for aim.  Create an online AIM account, download the ap and message any of us when ready.

Thanks Brutus. I had a feeling that the online exi's is what I would need to do, and that's cool. I totally expect to get annihilated, so that's fine :)

I did download Hamachi (waiting for for an email to confirm the attach client request), and I downloaded AIM again. I had used my screenname as my AIM since I had AOL back in 1997. Of course I couldn't remember my password and with no help from AOL as I had not used AIM in over 10 years or more, so I had to get a new screenname (LTNINGFan1), so at least I got those two things out of the way.

    Thanks for the info.

  6. Being new, and seeing how things work with the various leagues and exi's, is there a screening process an established player must do with a new player before said new player jumps in a league? I'm not in a huge rush to get into the league play yet, as I want to do all the right things by learning all the procedures, rules, setups, etc that have been established here. I know I need a lot more solo practice anyway.

(hopefully there was not a pinned post on something like this, if so, my apologies)

As a B player who is way to over aggressive and impatient I will give 1 piece of advice to other B players who find themselves like me, and to guys who C check, and miss way to much creating tons of scoring chances for your opponent.

Play a bunch of exis NEVER using the C button for the purposes of checking, OR speed burst, skate up, and down the ice without it, and always B check on D (yes you will find yourself trailing someone skating up the ice on D, but don't worry about it).  You will find yourself being in much better position on D after a few games, then play a game using the C button for checking and speed burst as neeeded to see if the experimental games without it have made you more disciplined with employing it, and even more efficient with it, keep doing this until you see a big change in your play.

Not guaranteeing a miracle here, but it is something that can help you take a small step to improvement.  I personally used to do this back when I first started, and found it helped a lot, haven't done it in a long time, and I probably should take my own advice and do it as I'm horrendous right now at being over aggressive with the C button.

Also when your exing purposely play with heavier guys that can't C check lighter guys, and can get C checked easily by lighter guys this will help you with learning how to dodge more checks with the puck, and play defense using B checks, CB. checks, and better positioning.

Anyways my rant is over, and it's a shame I'll never take my own advice on this for improvement but if anyone does, let me know how it worked out, and if it is viable way to improve your play.

Food for thought Lupz27, thanks for the advice on that. I am going to need a big binder to keep everyones tips and suggestions together. So much good info..

  8. I got in a small amount of time to try the Roms (those are great already, and I only started the first one) and oh man, do I need to practice. But it was fun, and if you're having fun practicing, then it'll be easier to grasp eventually.

Thanks again for those helpful videos and tips. You guys are awesome to help out, I appreciate it. I promise not to take another 11 year layoff again from here again. This place is just too cool.

Any player w/ decent agility can make the goalie drop down.

And as you can see by the shots, you don't need much of a shot to get them past a goalie once he drops down.

The key is to see how he wiggles back and forth.  Just a little to the left before going back to the right, or to hold the C button like a slapper while you slide past the goalie (so you would need to be moving when you started the slapper).

Later, he stops and restarts from standstill.  Those are the ones I screw up ROYALLY if I try, especially in the games.  Crazy one is vs Ice, cause he stops, wiggles and then PASS shots by your goalie as you think you've stopped a deke by grabbing manual.  But, those type of goals are rare to give up, so just focus on some basic upgrades on the move categories, then you start to get a feel for how that works.

    Good luck.

See, that's something I may not have had paid attention to, a wiggle like you mentioned. Good handy tips there. I'll have to pay attention to that. Thanks again, lots of knowledge that I have to get up to speed on for sure.

I watched those videos in 2015 and WOW, they were amazing to try to mimic.  I would get frustrated at times.  There are 1-0 ROMs you can download, or find out how to do it through the forums somewhere (I'm heading out or I'd look it up).  I can pull down like 40% of them in game now.

I will say, when I met TK in Toronto, and we played, he could do ALL those moves in the game on command, and it was cool to watch.  BUT, one important NOTE:

Goalie on the island, one on zero, is SO much easier to beat than with defenders around him.  So, using good defensive positioning if your goalie is dropping down can still block shot, knock puck off stick, etc.  Chelios makes more saves some games than Eddy!

But the game is WAY WAY more fun when you can put some points up on the board and that video makes it MUCH MUCH more entertaining.  Also, Raph has a strategy type site that reads like a manual with video examples and arrows and all kinds of eye candy!  It's not FULLY finished, but he does things so professionally, it's fun just to grab what you can off that site.

Impressive stuff, to say the least .I just watched all those, and saw so many moves I could never pull off. I also usually used players that weren't rated high enough to pull off higher skill moves anyway. :)

Now who in the world would do stuff like this?

Newbs like me, who think they have that opportunity to be sneaky, and in the back of their minds know they're doing something wrong and pay for it :)

I haven't played anyone here online yet, but reading up and trying to learn a few things ( like that controlling the goalie thing scares the hell out of me already). I haven't played anyone in 94 since, well, maybe 95, ha.
