  1. What does?

When is your Perfect Premium Tourney?

Why don't you go read the context? McMikey clearly implied NHL '94 can only be played on the Sega Genesis and the SNES and he said it was the entirety of NHL '94. This is his reasoning as to why it is necessary to mix the systems b/c it's the true way to determine the king of 94 for the doc.

I said that it isn't true, because there are 2 other consoles that can and would need to be played. So theoretically you can have the runner-up of the tournament be the true "king of 94", (as he/she can really be better at 3 of the consoles) which then contradicts the method on how McMikey claims the title is determined.

This tournament will not define the best at NHL'94 (in regards to his definition), so McMikey made an error. I'm correct.

And seriously CoachMac... the ping pong/tennis thing is a perfect example. The best ping pong player will always beat the best tennis player and vice versa.

The top SNES player will kick the s**t out of any GENS player and the top GENS player will kick the s**t out of any SNES player. Go look at all the top SNES players, none have done anything in GENS and vice versa.

  2. Well, I think since Plabber isn't coming, rather than just lay low on the issue, he's decided to try to poke holes in your big balloon.

Some of the comments from others tend to derail a fun time, but it's accidental, and a deep breath can solve the issue.

I firmly believe that in his case though, it's not accidental, but now it's at least not relevant, because as always, he eventually runs out of b.s. to throw out there.

I'm not trying to troll. People have a point in saying WTF to the idea of mixing the consoles. Sure McMikey put in some hard work, but that's not any excuse to not bash a silly decision.

Winner GENS vs SNES does NOT give you the king of 94. Why is that so hard to understand?

Again, the best tennis player doesn't play the best ping pong player to determine the king of tennis. How is that a troll? Completely relevant and a great point as to why GENS/SNES may not be the best.

  3. How can you even write such a gross miss statement MrP lol Now I can get in the troll game. Sega Genesis 60 hz, Mega Drive 50Hz. Sega CD, Mega CD, SNES, Super Famicom, Game Gear, MS Dos and then you can't forget the engine was used on Mutant Hockey League. So a true King of 94 would have to beat everyone on 9 different systems... oh wait then they are all the mods and emulators for each of those versions. Factor in the lag in modern TV's vs Tube TV's and you have to have both of those.

Basically if Michael Jordan decided to stay on the couch, that didn't change the fact he may be the best basketball player in the world. What did was he got off his ass, played by the rules that was given to him and kicked some ass LIVE against real people.

I truly hope you can make the event MrP, I really do... but not for me or the movie, but so you can see all your buddies that would really like to meet you. Balls are in your court

"So as a thought process for a second and think of the systems as secondary and the goal is to find the best person at NHL '94 as a whole (SNES mixed in with Gens)."

Ok you're right.. NHL '94 is ONLY on the Sega Genesis and SNES as it was mentioned in your earlier post. Yes I am trolling when I say it is not..

I am not sure what you mean with Michael Jordan. First off, Michael Jordan played in the NBA. The NBA is the top basketball league in the world. He was the best in the NBA, and thus the best BASKETBALL player in the world. Now what if there was a Netball league that was called the NetBall Association (NBA aswell)? You wouldn't take the best netball player from the NetBall Association and say hey.. play Michael Jordan 1on1 to prove who really is the best NBA player. This is essentially what you are doing. Both games are called NHL '94, but they are different like Tennis and Table Tennis. Tell me, when do you see the #1 ranked tennis player face off against the best table tennis player to determine who the best tennis player is? People are smart enough to know that's not how it works.

  4. You beat me a week earlier with the 2nd best team in the game, against my crappy old Bure, and it took you 7 games. You would've still lost gdl 9 so suck it

You lost to Carse when you had NYR against his crappy old Bure :)

You are the big-time loser in the finals :D stop losing man!! (1-2 lol)

  5. GDL 09 vs BoKnowsNHL94 - Game 7

    GDL X vs Icestorm - Game 7

I lose both games 6-5 after sloppy play in which my opponent piles on goals and then a late push by myself comes up short. When I look at it now, I definitely would have won the title had I won these games.

In GDL 09 I would have played TomKabs (I had beaten him exactly a week earlier) and swos before taking on Carse in the final.

In GDL X I would have beat swos in the final.

    BoKnowsNHL94 (1) vs Plabax (8)

    ----------------------------------------------

I definitely outplayed Bo in this series. Late in Game 5 (series tied 2-2) I had the lead and with my goalie I willingly decided to pass it in Bo's direction and I got scored on. I don't know why I did it but I honestly didn't care too much because I really thought I was going to win regardless. I lost that game in OT but bounced back in Game 6 with my most dominating game of the season.

Game 7 was a mess. Bo brought his A-game and I was in a hole early on. I fought back and got back into the game. I'm pretty sure I hit the post on a penalty shot THEN on what was going to be a breakaway my team took a penalty :(

I had a final rush, missed and then just saved the state while we were still in play. We didn't even end up seeing the three stars.

    ------------------------------

    Icestorm NHL94 (1) vs Plabax (3)

I came off a 4-2 series victory against Carse and I knew I was better than swos. The problem was, I wasn't confident in beating Icestorm. I used to think he was the best player in the community (I was very wrong lol :P).

Anyway, games 1 and 2 I got destroyed by Icestorm. My heart wasn't even racing, it just felt like I was going to lose. The problem was, my team of buggers was not good enough on the offensive end to score against Icestorm's great defensive and goalie play.

Game 3 I found a rhythm and came out with the win. Game 4 I lost, but I had the extreme confidence I needed in my ability to force a game 7.

I dominated games 5 and 6 and before game 7, I didn't underestimate my opponent like I did with Bo the year before.

Game 7 starts and early on I give away the puck with my goalie. Icestorm scores on the open net, 1-0 for him. I come back and take the lead 2-1 before Ice ties it up at 2. In the second period, Icestorm scores 3 goals in 5 seconds and all of a sudden I'm down 5-2. Early in the third period I'm able to make it 5-4 and I have all the momentum until I give it away with my goalie yet again, and Icestorm takes advantage. It seems like a backbreaker goal but then I come right back and score to make it 6-5. The rest of the game is all me. Point-blank shots in the crease, one-timers. everything. Ice stops it all and I lose the game. I lost this series more than Ice won it. In the end, I knew swos beat Ice in the finals and he did.

  6. hahahahahahahaha Oh MY GOD This is priceless...

Ok I Know better then answering trolling forum comments. But seriously tens of thousands of dollars are being spent making this tournament awesome and one of a kind. YOUR forum buddies are spending hundreds or thousands of dollars to come to this event at the worlds largest sports bar in Toronto. We are having real NHL'ers and the guys that made THE GAME ITSELF coming to see the people that made the game legendary by keeping it alive these 20 plus years. We came up with the rules from suggestions from YOU guys at NHL94.com. Not everyone will be happy I understand this. Staying at home and playing with yourself is everyones right and seems way more "serious" hahaha

I meant that it is not as serious compared to other video game tournaments. Not trying to troll, but it's the truth. No room for 300-500 people (at least)? 128 players (64 each) is really weak. 64 players and 20+ games going on at once is what my local college gathers for a video game tournament.

With 40+ setups, you should have enough time to ensure 400 players get at least 22 games over two days with plenty of sleep in between (round robin, assuming all matchups are best-of-3 and 10 minutes long), then on the final day you could do the top 64 in 12-14 hours (assuming all matchups are best of 7 and there is a game 7 in every round of the bracket, and also asumming when it's time for the top 8, all games are played at separate times so everyone can watch on two setups (one for the guys who want to watch GENS, one for the guys who want to watch SNES) then the Finals will be screened on one setup, so both GENS and SNES fans will watch the finals of both consoles.

Since the price entry is $45 and the tournament is so cool and full of NHL players. I would expect each console's (assuming an even amount of players between the two, if not just add the diffrrencr) first place winners to be walking home with at least $8000, runner-ups with $2800, $980 for the semi-finalists, or if you want third place games, $1400 for third, $560 for fourth, $210 for the remaining top 8 losers.

Mostly everyone should be back at their homes before 7AM on the Monday :)

  7. GDL is not s**t because standard fantasy snake drafts are normal. People play with those rules for money and it's widely recognized. If you took any hardcore fantasy player and showed them GDL, they would understand.

Blitz on the other hand, full of holes and gaps, made no sense. The protect system was bad.

I think it's liked because it uses the weight fix, is split up into A/B and now everyone can C-check the opposition. I'm sure for most people, the C-check is a big factor in determining how fun the game is. That's how it seems at least.

  8. Fatigue on changes the game completely.

It's played by 99% of all users w/ fatigue off for 20 plus years, so if you were doing a best of the best, you would not play under new rules.

Using the check button is a speed burst on defense. It also quickly fatigues your team. Most guys don't even know which players have good endurance or bad, since they've not played with these settings. So again, it's cool to every now & then join a league that changes things up, but specifically speaking, a tourney for '94 involving anyone not just from a group of dudes getting together in a basement should be with the same settings 99% of all users have been using for a solid 20 plus years now.

I mean, it has been 20 years, and during all this time, everyone keeps playing with line changes off & offsides off for a reason.

To me, a world wide invite and promoted to bring the best of the best together is clearly a King of '94. If you choose to not show up, that is not surprising. The rest of it just sounds like more of the same I've heard before in different argumentative directions.

This seems a bit extreme. Fatigues on doesn't change the game completely. Did you play TDL? I didn't notice a difference in the results. I noticed a difference in less players mashing the C button and being cheesy abusing C checks. Another plus is that the players that are way too fast become nullified by fatigue over the course of a shift. You also don't play against top players all the time, so more skill comes out.

Also, playing with something a majority of the time doesn't mean it's the best. Wasn't Blitz played for 8 seasons with s**t rules?

  9. so, I get why most beginners opt away from complications, but I always wonder why semipro players don't mostly play with all options on, especially fatigue. if this is for the real crowning of the king, why is the game dumbed down like it's everybody's first time playing?

I agree with the fatigue part. However when playing with line changes, people just pick Sc1 and Sc2. I remember playing against Raph and Labs and they never used the Chk line. It's best to leave them off since people are just looking to abuse it.

This is not really the king of '94, it's a get together for the filming of a documentary. Not surprised really.

  10. I altered the classic ROM to increase everyone's speed and agility by 1. The ROM worked perfect and it was fun. I decided to take it a step further and make the rating system 0-15 so I could increase agility by a little bit. Once I did that... The ROM became extremely fast.

Brian Bradley (now a 5/4) is faster than Mogilny ever was.

Phil Housley can turn so fast that I can't even control it.

Frameskip is normal, WTF :( help

  11. Any thoughts on dividing into an A and B league like blitz?

I prefer the classic rom, but blitz is a better league because every game is competitive. Also, its much easier to find 11 coaches. I'm pretty sure there are far fewer dnp's in blitz.

24 teams is the reason GDL is better. The playoffs in Blitz only has 8 coaches :(

Also, not every game has to be competitive, or else who would be in my league? ;)

  12. 1. People use their backup goalies. When the gas start flowing a lot of people switch in their backup, a lot. I never do this myself either, but that doesn't matter. Even though it never really makes a difference, it's sort of a psychological thing. All in all, an unnecessary restriction. (It'd save a round though, it's nice to make things faster).

    3. Another unnecessary restriction. Way too many people will be against this. You can't force people to make teams the way you do lol. That being said, goalies are definitely overvalued. This was especially apparent in an exi I had with raph recently where he scored 8 goals on Roy. I know my manual goalie sucks, but some of them were like long distance onetimers. On the best goalie in the game :/ lol. I just wish there was a way to get everyone on board that the difference between bad goalies and good ones isn't a huge deal. Although now I'm thinking about games against habs where he was LA and hrudey let in the cheesiest of cheese goals over and over again. This all being said, I wouldn't want to be stuck with Jeff Reese all season in any league

    1. Switching goalies for the fun of it is not a good reason to f**k up the goalie stats in every league. In the end you can use your manual goalie so there virtually is no reason to switch.

    3. When the noobs constantly trade away their good players for goalies, it becomes kind of stupid. It's also a subtle way for the top players to stack their teams. :)

  13. 1) Only one goalie per team

There is no need to draft two goalies. I have never even used my backup goalie in a league game. The backup goalies always end up hijacking the goalie stats aswell.

    2) Trade cap with no extensions (Draft)

Three or Five trades is a good number. The trading IS fun, but it gets to the point where start trading for fun and not to improve their team.

    3) No trading goalies

Some coaches fail to realize that a goalie isn't worth anything. If we are allowed to trade them, someone will essentially get a free player that is worthy to be drafted in the first four rounds.

Example, in Blitz I was able to trade Ranford for Gilmour.

    4) Have a player ranking system that generates a trade evaluator

Have a formula that generates a player ranking based on points. If there is a trade where the gap between the total points of each team is too large, it is automatically vetod.

  14. I wouldn't fake a desync. The only other time you have heard this complaint was in GDL XI, and it was Houly (again). For the record, I did desync two times in a row against Zalex right before I tried to play with Houly.
