I like this one. Looks more fun than watching the last World Cup.
Although when I saw Irbe's name I couldn't help but think that he probably would not like it.
Given that he famously refused to play for the Soviet team to instead help put up barricades in the streets of Riga to block the tanks that Russia was sending to halt their independence movement.Interestingly, my initial thought would have been Khabibulin, but I had to remind myself that he was born in Sverdlovsk, USSR, when the city of Yekaterinburg was known by that name, and not the Sverdlovsk that is hopefully still in Ukraine. [because that would have been a whole similar, but different issue]
Very good context. I wasn't aware of Irbe's history. In future versions, I'll adjust the RUS roster. Not sure what I'll do, but will need to be creative

This rom is amazing! I'm having so much fun with team Russia! (Fedorov, Mogilny, Bure) Also, as a Québécois, I love the Atlantic team! But I think the first line should look like this:
LW Luc Robitaille -- C Mario Lemieux -- RW Pierre Turgeon
Thanks for this rom, it's so much fun!
Thanks @Sharp33 ! Really glad you liked it. Absolutely agree that the lineups can be tinkered with. On paper, Luc and Turgeon belong on the Atlantic starting lineup. But I guess I put Pepe in instead because the 94 online community seems to favor him over Luc. I will continue to adjust the lineups going forward based on feedback from the SNES group online. In fact, after additional play testing, it turned out that the Scandinavia team was overpowered and Ontario had more than enough players to field 2 teams. I've updated the WC rom by splitting up Scandinavia into Sweden and Finland, and Ontario is split into North and South. It's now a 10 team rom and each team has 5 F instead of 6 F. New rom is attached.
Do you have any interest in playing in the online leagues? I plan to run a world cup league/tourney again in late December using the updated 10 team rom. It's easy to get set up online. We ran a tourney a few weeks ago using an older version of the rom. Czechoslovakia beat Team Pacific in the best of 3 finals - NHL94 Online.com | Playoffs

I've been tinkering with a World Cup of Hockey type of rom, but using only players that are in the base 94 game. So no created players and no modified stats, all players are pulled straight from 94. I was able to produce a beta WC rom a few years ago, with 4F, 3D, and 1G, but now I've been able to refine and expand on the Beta. The beta WC rom has poor jersey shading, and some big names were omitted. Thanks to @kidswasted @McMarkis for pointing me in the right direction with the roms and tools.

8 National/Regional teams. It's not possible to make up 8 different teams from 8 different nations, so some creative license.
- Russia (NYR), USA (CHI), Scandinavia (WPG), Czechoslovakia (BUF)
- Canada: Pacific (VAN), Prairies (CGY), Ontario (TOR), Atlantic (MTL)
- The criteria for team selection was place of birth. Which meant player pools for Pacific and Prairies were limited, compared to the other teams. Notable exception is Irbe playing for the Russians. Allowing this as Latvia is former Soviet Union (?)
- The rom attached contains lineups that I think are optimal. Rosters could be updated in the future.
- Maybe it's possible to run a World Cup team selection league - haven't thought it through yet. Team Ontario would have lots of tough decision. Team Pacific not so much
- Teams consist of 6F, 4D, 1G
- Uses the McMarkis no-intro rom
- Player card portraits and banner colors are all updated
-
Jersey notes:
- Scandinavia: Finns Away & Swedes Home
- Czechoslovakia: Slovak Away & Czech Home
- USA: 98 Nagano and Miracle on Ice
- Pacific: 2010 Olympics
- Prairies: 2014 Olympics
- Ontario: 2022 WC
- Atlantic: 2002 Olympics
- I think all teams can viably win
- Top FWD groups: Scandinavia, Russia, and Pacific
- Top DEF groups: USA, Ontario, and Prairies

I loaded 94 into my SNES mini. It's been years since I did this, but it was done via hakchi. 94 runs fine as far as I can see. I also popped gens 94 into playstation mini.

If you bet on both teams, I think you might break even.

I'm looking for a recommendation on a SNES style 2.4ghz wireless controller. I want to steer clear of Bluetooth because of noticeable lag. I've been searching for the last two weeks and I haven't found anything worthwhile. I know there is a nice Retrobit Gens controller(https://amzn.to/325TAHw) that I ordered and is on the way. I'd like to use this solely for playing Gens. However I'm looking to see if there's something similar for SNES. 8BitDo has a couple of 2.4 wireless controllers but one is for the original SNES hardware while the other is for the SNES mini. Neither have a USB dongle for PC use. Worst case scenario I just use my iBuffalo wired SNES controller, my wired Xbox one controller, or this new Retrobit Gens controller since it has L and R buttons.
Edit: The reason I'm looking to go wireless is because my PC is connected to my living room TV and my couch is ~15ft away. I'm currently using an Xbox one wired controller with a USB extender but my kid has been pulling the cord or tripping over it and it's a pain taking it out and putting it away.
How bad is the lag on bluetooth? I have the first 2.4 G 8bitdo SNES pad. It was fine for SNES mini and for usb to pc. But I needed a pad to connect to real SNES hardware. I was thinking of the new 2.4G pad above. But it was not available. So I bought the 8bitdo BT snes pad and the blue tooth retro receiver. Haven't had chance to test out the BT yet.

Congrats Aj and Fed!
I had fun in toronto triple elim. I had fun in vancouver group play. Pros and cons for both set ups. For future tourneys, maybe let the paid entrants vote for the set up.

The 94 online community has both leagues/tourneys, and also single game exi matches. For snes, we have players who are often looking to play exi matches throughout the day just for fun. Getting set up online is easy. You can download the retroarch package from nhl94online.com
There's no commitment required to play exi games. You just hop on discord and ask if any snes players are free for games.
